To tell the truth, Ernie had it coming. You'd think he could at least spare one or two cookies for Cookie Monster. That could be why they haven't played this sketch in so long. They want to focus more on sharing rather than trying to keep things out of someone's reach. Just my opinion on that.

The only one who could successfully keep cookies away from CM was the amazing Mumford. When he made the cookies disappear all CM could do was futilely try to use the magic wand to make them come back. He had to settle for eating the wand instead of the cookies.

I remember seeing this clip in 1974 with a couple of other 7 yr old friends. They both got a big kick out of CM eating the safe. I think this skit came out earlier than '74 because I think I had already seen it several times before.
