  • @IKillLittlegirls awesome how it flows from so-called 'emo' to indie rock and everything else. and emo is a pointless genre, which fails completely.

  • brand new grew out of their "emo" stage. on their newer stuff the lyrics get more deep and you can tell they've changed.

  • agreed. emo is the worst word imaginable to describe a genre of music...every type of music carries some kind of "emotional" weight with it, it's just a lazy term thrown around by today's media.

  • i was fucked up off a pill when i wrote that. so i was acting stupid. i just think YFW is an emo album although it is also pop-punk. it was just an observation.

  • It's not emo? you obviously don't know any of the lyrics for that cd, or what emo is for a matter of fact. 70x7 is Jesse complaining about how his best friend slept with his girlfriend , and failure by design is about being alone while his girlfriend is out doing whatever the hell she wants. he even talk about his wrist being sore from cutting them. so why dont you explain how that isn't emotional.

  • BTY brand new is my favorite band. im just letting everyone know empty216 is ignorant.

  • failure by design is about the pressures about putting together an album

    and:

'MY WRISTS ARE SORE FROM PULLING AT YOUR INSIDES ALL NIGHT'

    fuck.

  • "I cut myself because I'm so frustrated."

"Watch me as I cut myself wide open, on this stage as I am paid to spill my guts.."

YFW is no doubt an emo album. Its also not an accurate representation of who Brand New is, now.

and just for fun, I'll say, I read an interview where jesse says something along the lines of "I think people who cut themselves are pussies--it doesn't even hurt."

    haha

  • again:

"I'll KILL myself because I'm so frustrated"

...at the process of creating an album under pressure.

"Spill my guts" is figurative for 'tell all', as in he's paid to 'cut himself wide open' in order to tell all about his life, or to allow his 'guts' to 'spill'. It's a metaphor. Their lyrics a just a bit deeper than that.

  • I know what a metaphor is. I know what thier songs are about. I don't know what you're trying to argue. There's not really a question in whether or not the album falls into the "emo" category. Deep lyrics don't change that.

  • "Watch me as I cut myself wide open, on this stage as I am paid to spill my guts.."

i don't think he literally means like cut himself in this. im pretty sure he's just making a metaphor (if that's the word i'm looking for) towards spilling his guts through his music.

  • also it's "I kill myself because I'm so frustrated." not cut.

  • Wow this quality is amazing compared to the other live videos out there. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • The devil and god definitely their best. Your favorite weapon sounded like every other pop punk band out there. The devil and god didnt sound like anything else out there, its amazing.

  • your favorite weapon is true emo, not really pop punk. brand new matured as a band, but their earlier stuff is still good. devil and god is an amazing, just don't dis the old stuff cuz it sounds different. i fell in live with soco amaretto lime when i was much younger, and it never gets old.

  • lyrics were still smarter than 95% of bands out there on YFW

  • i personally LOVE all their albums.

  • I'm glad their new songs are a bit more upbeat than the Devil and God. Loved their last album, but I'd love to see something geared more towards what Your Favorite Weapon was.

  • Your favourite weapon is a bit to poppy, id rather it be more like deja entendu or the devil and god.

  • @tippin1

Yeah, you're right this does sound like Swamp, and the guitars seem kinda Colour Revolt like. I love Colour Revolt. Them, as well as Brand New, are by far my favorite bands, and the best ones in existence. Haha, I can't wait for Daisy. I so can't wait.

  • well... i have wood...

  • Yeah same.

  • i got nails?

  • And we turn out hate in factories!

  • Well, this is pretty much a cross-over from my favorite band to the next. Brand New to Nirvana.

  • Try Brand New to Colour Revolt. I dont know if you have ever heard of them, but Brand New toured with them before Devil and God was written and they took a shit load of influence from the, especially vocal wise. Colour Revolt was also a huge influence on the new Manchester Orchestra Cd. Just listen to the drum beat from the song Swamp by colour revolt and then to this drum beat. so similar.

  • Cool, man. I'll be sure to check them out :)

  • I loved seeing Colour Revolt with Brand New.

Manchester Orchestra is also amazing. :D

  • Jesus the screaming in this is amazing...Jesse's so talented.

  • Saw them play this last night in Boston; it was the first time I heard it and I was pretty much blown away. Can't wait for Daisy.

  • Screaming like that takes skill, dude. Try getting a solid note while still having a good scream going on.

  • well said there

  • cuz he likes screaming, im assuming. the emotion in his live sets is palpable. he has a pretty fucking solid screaming voice though. i mean he doesnt sound great here but clearly he has been on tour and its tough to nail it night in and night out.

  • yeah

  • I thought that when I listened to one of the acoustic vids of this on here, especially the bit when he starts shouting. awesome
