  • Stephen Malkmus = sexiest man ever.

  • 111,111th view! On 11/1/11! What do I win?

  • Again please........

  • Definitely my favorite pavement song!

  • slide guitar!

  • Hot summer afternoon + beer + this song on repeat = Heaven

  • THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL

  • Everytime I read the title I think of the Beach Boys' "Child is Father of Man"

  • god this band was good

  • i love sooo much

  • Didn't even know they had a video for this tune...brilliant nonetheless.

  • brings back memories of living in georgia in the early 90's and keeping six caribbean slaves in the basement to clean my vinyl records thanks for the memories pavement

  • pedal steel for the win!

  • If this song was to be a woman I would definitely marry her :)

  • How can anyone come here to watch this awesome video for any reason and just don't like it?

    Tsc tsc tsc

  • Good video.

  • why is it that the people that don't know the name of the song are the ones to upload it to youtube? Its not "In The Mouth Of A Desert" or "In A Mouth A Desert", and it isn't "Father to a Sister of a Thought"

  • 1:38 I watched about a million times

  • escutar e ver ao vivo é bom demais

  • hugely underrated...i think this tune really set the stage for the last two albums

  • I love this, I just think it's so hilarious. Wow, they're badass cowboys! I love when Malkmus is on rollerblades but you can't see them earlier on in the video and he's just floating across the screen! Amazing song, of course!

  • Pavement.

    5 LP's,

every single one a masterpiece in their different ways,

A closed circle within the 90's..

    Best Band ever?

  • @11suedehead11 definately top 5 behind Beatles (of course), the Who (I play bass), and Sonic Youth

  • this will always be my favorite pavement song. probably one of my favorite songs ever.

  • @lisaann1213 Really? What does this song mean to you? I love the lyrics, but to me they are not profound

  • great great song!

  • I love this, i love this, i love this!

and i miss them and i miss them, and i miss them!

This song always reminds me of summers

  • On of the most perfect songs ever in a fuck up flawed kind of way

  • Lyrically profound.

  • Beautiful song in that shambling Pavement manner. I love it.

  • they are back!!!! See them in Brussels on 18 th may can,t wait!!!

  • classic pavement.

  • Whoops meant 1:40 or so

  • 1:34 reproduction of a beatles photo?

Beautiful vid for a beatiful song,

    Stoned as hell too

  • Maravilloso

  • que bonita.........por dios........

  • I love this song. Great riff/lyrics. Amazing.

  • 1.pavement

    2.the smashing pumpkins

    3.silversun pickups

    4.stone temple pilots

    5.tool

  • "It stands to reason if you spend your life in a pocket of avoidance it will, one day, catch up to you. There are so many levels of self-denial. The human mind is so twisted in its rationalizations, and yet I knew it all along. I am a pitiable, selfish fuck of being." malkmus on father of a sister of a thought

  • @TheHeidiGame

    That is fucking beautiful.

  • the thrills were formed in 2001... This is from 1995 :S... And Pavement would never copy an inferior band such as the thrills...

  • hahaha copying a band who doesn't exist in 1995. Maybe it could be pre-cognition from Malkus

  • oh my apologies.. didnt know this band's that old

  • cool thing by the way it means pavement's sound ages well. I love The Thrills just in case

  • hilarious... Arguably the most influential indie band, and they are copying who? Can't wait to see them night two in nyc!

  • I dare you to find a better band.

  • Can't be done

  • Yeah, right. Who the fuck are the Thrills?

Maybe they should try Wowee Zowee; I'm sure its a hell a lot more thrilling than the Thrills.

  • I have my tickets, only 11 months to go...

  • my word...

  • wonderful to see how many memories are brought back by listeners here.

It shows how easily pavement hits the bullseye with their astonishing musiQ.

    they're truly amazing....

  • right you are. Thats something I've noticed about pavement, is that the best way to describe their music is by sayings its dead on. They really did hit the mark

  • They're comin back!!!!

  • Memories! Travelling New Zealand on my own, memories of working on farms on the south island, driving a dodgy car, listening to Wowee Zowee in an old c.d player, with my headphones on, absorbing freedom and taking a step back from my life and working out my shit...amazing band.

  • @crabolde, I had excatly the same experience with their previous album "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain"!!! That album came out the year b4 I was travelling up the west coast of the South Island however.

  • @crabolde. snap, except in 2 respects. The car bit - I hitchhiking - and the album. Mine was 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain'

  • man this song brings back so many memories!. I saw them play in New Orleans with Mary Timony and (I think) Elliot smith. It was an amazing night. I wish I could live those days all over again. the music made that time so special

  • whoa.. that would be an amazing show.

  • @Hellabweela glad to hear other people have the same feeling about this music making early and mid-90's so special

  • @Hellabweela pavement and elliott smith, if I saw that show I'd have to live knowing that my life has peaked

  • @mmcdonald0822 too bad, you can only see Pavement these days.

  • @mmcdonald0822 same... damn me being too young to have been into these guys when they were making music... :'(

  • Awesome song and clip.

  • Slide guitar, cattle, roller skates, pavement, rundown apartment pool, chili, weepy face. These are all the elements of a great song. Why can't any other band put these together as well?

  • because they're in lack of Pavement :P ;)

  • DAMMIT I wish i was old enough to appreciate pavement when they were still together. :[

  • me too, me too

    I know how u feel

he's fuckin old enough to be my father!

  • i saw them play this live @ a beat up old theater in nyc back in the summer of '96. it was the last time that i was at a show where people actually took out bic lighters and flicked them during the song. now we use our blackberries. it's nowhere near the same thing.

  • good, clever diy video...sweet, very sweet

  • passei meses procurando esse clipe. oh finalmente encontrei. just great!

  • 2:48 to 3:05 gets me all melancholy. Great song. Sounds even better on top of a hill overlooking the ocean on a Sunday night.

  • You told me about that, haha. x) I need this song, it's great

  • Best Pavement song/video ever.

  • sure is, i used to watch this over and over! beautiful guitar and slide

  • best outro to a song ever.

  • hehe yeah They didn´t end the song on the key tone did they? Its so freakin anoying!

  • perfect sound forever....!!!

  • whoa damn theyre like real cowboys

  • grandissima canzone!!!

  • The best shot is the one of Malkmus and the guys in the very beginning

  • vida campestre, rural roça americana legal esse povo caipira do interior tudo de bão coração

  • I like when he pop ups into frame.. makes me smile

  • This is totally a single - for those of us with good taste.

  • I love Pavement so much...They play everything that I love...everything

  • I love how Scott just shovels some dirt then flings it back into the dirt pile at 2:02

  • that isn't dirt, it's manure--you can see the heat coming off of it as it is composting.

  • this song rocks.

  • Yeah? Maybe you should invest in some taste then? Don't blame pavement for your own shortcomings

  • yeah really and I see your biggest shortcoming is not liking pavement.......so dont blame pavement for not liking pavement...................thats how good they are

  • I hope this is sarcasm, because anyone who doesn't like Pavement should go back to the Nickleback and Hinder concert whence they spawned.

  • hopeyourpunkarseregretskillyourealslow

  • I forgot the :P at the end of that rant, oh and I forgot to take my meds that day...

Oh jah! Real Pavement fans can spot sarcasm a mile away.

  • uma das melhores cançoes de sempre juntamente com here

  • I believe Anderson Cooper said it best when he said "some bands get a bit full of themselves thinking they are poets rather then rockstars; Pavement were poets convinced they were rockstars..."

  • I have so much more respect for Anderson Cooper now.

  • I love pavement. But here's something I often don't hear about them, I think maybe they have quite a bit more in common with a group like "the dead milkmen", the off key vocals, but also the wide genre blending of esoteric and indie sources seem similar, if not for sounding like each other but in approach to making music.

  • There is no other band that consistently made such brilliant music as Pavement. Even Brighten the Corners was fucking excellent, and that's a bad Pavement record!

  • What about the Pixies. They made 4 brilliant albums... ;-)

  • True, true - although you're not allowed to call them 'the' Pixies, just Pixies.

Stephen Malkmus is still churning out excellent music as well - his guitar playing with the Jicks has just got better and better

  • Why does everyone hate Brighten The Corners?

I love that album. First album from Pavement too. That and Wowee Zowee are my favs.

Crooked Rain's a quick third and then Slanted.

  • i really love Brighten the Corners - Old to Begin, Type Slowly, Transport, We are Underused, Starlings, etc. -just perfect. Just imo, but it has 2 mediocre SM songs, Embassy Row and Blue Hawaiian. Anything less than perfect is almost shocking.

  • Don't get me wrong, I like Brighten the Corners, just not my favourite. Wowee Zowee, Slanted and Enchanted, Crooked Rain, Westing, Terror Twilight and BTC for me! I'm a fucking massive Pavement nerd...

  • Why does everyone hate Terror Twilight?

  • Terror Twilight is awesome. I feel like Pavement (i.e. Malkmus) gave birth to 5 really talented, healthy, brilliant children. They vary a little, they have genetic differences, but it is absolutely impossible to say which one is better. They are all great, they are all different, and they are all the same.

  • Malkmus is still doing it with the Jicks. 4 excellent solo records, even Face the Truth is excellent and that is not really but relatively just an OK Malkmus record. It has Mama which I don't like but others probably love.

  • Have you seen the video for 'Mama' - it's bizarre. I rate all the Jicks albums, think that Real Emotional Trash is a brilliant album. Malkmus really loving his proggy rock guitar solos these days!

    Long live Stephen Malkmus....

  • reminsce or a gentle fall like dream state hello colorado this was my abstract dicovery jenn......

  • Shit howdy, I just love this here video by the Pavements. Is that a fer real Texas style clearance mall?

    Wowee Zowee's my fave!

  • La mejor banda de los 90's y una de las mejores de todos los tiempos.

  • I love pavements video comment sections, It's all just love for the band.

    Peace out all Pavement fans.

  • So wistful...flirtations w/ the Cracker Barrel semi-South as enabled by Easley's pedal steel.

  • pavement, teenage fanclub, posies, lemonheads, pell-mell. all great.

  • Pavement are for me definitive 90's band and I think of American alternative rock/indie as a whole. I don't think they will ever be topped. Not for me at least.

Teenage Fanclub are awesome too! I can really only listen to Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix tho, but they are classic

  • One of their better videos.

  • I agree!!!

    Fucking amazing!

    Ever listen to Teenage Fanclub?

    Another top band.

  • these guys were voted the best indie band ever by blender. go pavement.

  • one of the best albums of the 90's: Wowee Zowee.

  • To Fischer, chess was nothing but a means to and end, to wit, the annihilation of the opponent's ego. Oddly, those he faced often cooperated with him in this task. His endgame technique was marvelous- his brutal style depended to some extent on the opponent's weak will. A street thug, a bum, an idiot savant. There isn't more to be said about his behavior. He won't be missed. He changed not only the game, but the entire atmosphere that surrounds chess - the obsession with speed chess.

  • Wowee Zowee. Yes, their best. Even better than the song by Zappa.

  • the savior of all music.

  • You are correct. There is no better

  • for some reason pavement is fucking totally awesome. i still have never really got my finger on it, steve malkmus and the jicks is very much like morphine for the herion addict. fuck commercial radio btw. sorry for the swears and happy kwanza.

  • Absolute tune right here. Brilliant.

  • Pretty much most Pavement is great but Ithibk Wowee Zowee is their best. But who gives monkees ass?

  • As a pavement expert, I deem you CORRECT!

  • amen, f***ing pavement man

  • I would like for you not to use *** anymore, K

  • Pavement are the standard to which music is set. Such good memories listening to them whilst at University :)

  • One of their best songs and one of the best videos featuring tortilla soup...ever.

  • Best song by the best band of my music-listening lifetime.

  • lol @ you for being an unappreciative asshole.

  • That's great, smart ass, so what?

Thank you, seamusiv, for sharing this great video. I really love Pavement!

  • who gives a fuck..

  • nothing irk my pretentious ass like somebody misspelling some everyday onomotopoeia...

    DICK.

  • Praise Pavement!!

  • This causes amazing memories from back in the day, one of the greatest bands. Original and Real.

  • la banda mas importante de los 90's de lejos un tema epico bueno de quien mas podia salir ago asi

  • Its Wowee Zowee, not 'wowie zowie'.

  • there was some great steel guitar on the whole record. this song's probably the best example, but if I'm not mistaken, "Extradition" had some nice twang as well.

  • one of the best bands..... enough said.

  • i love the slides, amazing

  • miss them so badly.

  • favorite pavement song by far

  • Only Pavement can make the moon spin.

  • I saw them several times. When they were good, they were very very good. Best band of the 90s by far. Best band in the last 30 years.

  • the best band of the 90's, hands down. I wish they would get back together, just to see them live one last time...

  • Is there no sadder image than a shrink-wrapped boat? Failing, of course, one with "Snoopy Come Home" projected on its hull...and by that I mean , I love this video.

  • pavement ist rad

  • steel guitar makes me swoon..aaahhhhhhhhhh

  • oh my!!! amazing song!! it makes me so happy :) i also love grounded another great pavement song!

  • It's so sad that this faux-country song is more beautiful and jarring than latter-day radiotrash of the same genre. I miss Pavement. ;__;

  • which radiotrash of the same genre?

    Faith Hill or Rilo Kiley?

    Same difference.

  • Yeah, take your pick.

  • Bob Nastanovich rules!!

  • Bob Nastanovich was the brains behind the band!??????????!

  • Dreamy, imperfect and beautiful...yeah, real nice

  • man i miss the 90's, it seemed like the last decade for musical creativity. so far the 2000's blew for anything in rock. oh well, i guess it can only go up from here

  • beg to differ: bands like the strokes, interpol and the walkmen are still totally worth listening to. You just have to go look for good music more nowadays.

  • I disagree with the Strokes association to "worthy" music. (Agree with Interpol, though.) But Sonic Youth is still together, and that band is the nineties. One of the best still continues to make excellent, relevant music.

  • indeed., also radiohead, lips,NIN,and grandaddy. still good.

  • Everytime I come back to their music and their humour and their insight - it's a rebirth. They were always chaotic and shambolic live but, hey, who wants a polished studio album for a live experience. I reckon they would be massive if they were giving us their best now - but they never really wanted it. To my ear, their tunes are timeless and the vids just sum their attitude up. They underrated themselves!

  • incredible song

  • The 90s will be back. The passed to fast...

  • no way did these guys ever get the credit that they so richly deserved. what a band.

  • good thing though...why share this shit with everyone else?

  • beautiful guitar work

  • hahaa! awesome video! =P Pavement! Pavement! Pavement!!

  • Pavement Top 5:

    5. Zurich is Stained

    4. Black Out

    3. Gold Sounds

    2. Range Life

    1. FTASOAT (weird vid though, love the break starting at 2:11)

  • Indie rock gods channeling the Replacements channeling Gram Parsons? Better than anything on the vaunted "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain?" Yes and yes.

  • i saw them in rome in 1993 with sonic youth. beyond...

  • malkmus genius
