I salute his boldness. He is talking with good social concern and dont't shy to critizise TV people. Pongal is a feast beyond religion, and it is there in every culture with another name. We need not criticise other religion and other Language. Better clear what in us and lets not approach the problems as the politicians present. நாசரின் சமூக அக்கறையை நன்கு மதித்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்கின்றேன். ஆனால் அதுக்கும் உழவர் திருநாளுக்கு வாழ்த்து கூறுவது தவறு என்பதுக்கும் கொஞ்சமும் தொடர்பு இல்லையே...அதை அவர் இவ் வேளையில் விவசாயிகளின் இந்த இந்த பிரச்சனைகளில் அக்கறை எடுங்கள் என்று வலியுறுத்தி சொல்லி இருக்கலாம்..கண்டித்தும் இருக்கலாம்...ஆனால்.. பொங்கலை கண்டிக்க வேண்டிய அவசியமோ வாழ்த்த மறுக்கும் அவசியமோ இல்லையே?.

@nathiya16 That is not "Thai 14". It is "Thai 1". Also, we never call "Thai 1" as "Thamizhar Thirunaal". We call it as "Uzhavar Thirunaal". Whatever you say, "Chithirai 1" is the starting of our tamil calendar and hence should be called as the Tamil New Year first day OR Tamil New Year Day. Any other argument is baseless.

Yeah I do agree that when farmers are sorrow and not having fun, its not appropriate for us to celebrate. hello subbu, i disagree with u, firstly, pongal is not a hindu festival, pongal is a farmer's festival. he has explained that in the interview also. during pongal, they are not worshipping any hindu gods, its not a ritual or anything related to hinduism, but its a celebration for harvesting.
@abdullahpm2 I agree with you partly on the fact that its farmer's festival. But can you please tell me if atleast one Muslim or christian is celebrating Pongal. Come on brother... I would be very happy if everybody celebrates Pongal. Also please do not start saying that these festivals do not have "Hindu" base. Thats not correct. This festival is actually called "Makara Sankranti". I too wish my friends "Happy Eid" and Happy Ramzan. But I never say that its hindu festival. Hope you understand.

Dude i am a Christian currently living in Chennai, and i'm from a predominantly Christian village in Thiruvannamalai district, both here in the church and back there in my village .. Pongal was celebrated on grand scale!

@eeevilmunky Oh is it. That's nice to hear. But you know something. Eating pongal and sugarcane is not the full celebration. Its just part of it. We offer prayers to "Surya Bagawan". To whom do you offer prayers? St. Sun?? Be realistic dude. I might have asked a wrong question. But you cannot argue on the fact that Pongal has a Hindu base to it. Can you answer two of my questions? Which year you got converted to christianity? and were you celebrating pongal before that year? Check with your dad.

First of all Pongal is a harvest festival, it is rather ethnic and cultural than being religious.
No offence, you might consider asking your father when they converted to Hinduism .. because Tamils were never Hindus as much as they were never Christians and i guess my forefathers were 'progressive' thinkers who understood that they din't need a religion which said one man was above another!

Whatever you say, "Chithirai 1" is the starting of our tamil calendar and hence should be called as the Tamil New Year first day OR Tamil New Year Day. Any other argument is baseless.

Kind of well said Nasser. But your viewpoint is not very clear. Being a muslim, you do not have any right to say about celebration of any other religion festivals. Yeah I do agree that when farmers are sorrow and not having fun, its not appropriate for us to celebrate. But if we chose not to celebrate, then over period of time, our coming generations will totally forget about Hindu Festivals. Let us try to rectify problems. Keeping away from festivals do not bring in a solution to this.

hello subbu, i disagree with u, firstly, pongal is not a hindu festival, pongal is a farmer's festival. he has explained that in the interview also. during pongal, they are not worshipping any hindu gods, its not a ritual or anything related to hinduism, but its a celebration for harvesting.

First of all Pongal is a harvest festival, it is rather ethnic and cultural than being religious.
No offence, you might consider asking your father when they converted to Hinduism .. because Tamils were never Hindus as much as they were never Christians and i guess my forefathers were 'progressive' thinkers who understood that they din't need a religion which said one man was above another!

@Budistmunk Please don't bring God into this. What Nazaar says is absolutely right...where are all our lakes and rivers..at this rate TN will be a land with no water ways..TN is heading to a sad state and future kids have to go to other states to sight see how a Pond, Lake, River, etc looks like.
