  • Thanks

  • I admire her

  • er what has dylan got to do with it? he didn't write the words.they come from an old english ballad called scarborough fair. and the melody.

  • @candyfcb No, Dylan DID write the words. The song is an arrangement (Dylan's own, with some inspiration from his friend Martin Carthy) of Scarborough Fair with new words by Bob Dylan. "Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine" is from the traditional Scarborough Fair, but the majority of the lyrics are Dylan's own.

  • ...remember me, to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine...

Dylan truly is a poetical weaver of inimitable proportion.

    Beautifully performed

    x

  • beautiful voice

  • her voice is absolutely outrageous, never heard anything like it before

  • @alexgannon53 ...or since

  • I'm too old to be tearing up like this.

  • There's still good music out there but it's just that the popular music nowadays is not the same. I can't really compare Joni to Katy Perry or Dylan to Bruno Mars...

  • Wow! Joni is great here.

  • Joni's voice is a flowering vine growing around rusty bobbed wire, sunlight through honey, a delicate child lost in the big city...Just the best sweetest female singer to ever walk the earth...

  • put one in the treasure chest. and remember. it was before computers and the beginning of the desolation Bob warned of.

  • OH MY GOD THIS IS GOOD.

  • They are both great singers, but the tempo and accompianment ruined it for me. My fav version is johnny and bob together on the dylan album.

  • I you love the original take a listen to a alternative version on my channel. Thanks Joppaflats

  • Joni & Johnny singing a Bob Dylan song~doesn't get better than this.

  • She's a twat. She babbled something a couple years ago about Dylan being a plagiarist. No clue what the context was, but she should just try to shut her gigantic mouth.

  • @hespheiden If you can't find specific and accurate information about this, then you are the one who should be quiet. Joni is a very respected and great musician, as is Dylan.

  • I wonder if Johnny fucker her.

  • @MonacoBlast Have some respect man, seriously.

  • @MonacoBlast (:o(

  • Hello people, I just covered this song. Listen to it on my page if ya want.

  • Johnny Cash & Joni Mitchell, obvious mutual respect here and affection, don't forget it was Dylan who said that Johnny Cash was the barometer of the nation's conscience(and it's totally brilliant)

  • Sorry....but this is a truly awful rendition of one of my all time favourite songs.

  • gave me goosebumps and electric energy charges. Two true and deep originals. Much as you have to give Johnny credit, you have to give the network credit too. Pity they have lowered the bar so far these days. Thabks to whoever signed of on Johnny's show back then. It left is this great footage.

  • joni mitchell is the best. her, roy orbison and sam cooke are the holy trinity of singers, as far as i'm concerned.

  • I think she had a thing for Johnny

  • @lynus111 , christ, who doesn't? and im a guy haha. Cash was just a BAMF.

  • עם בוב דילן מושלם

  • Hang on a minute - I thought she considered Dylan 'a fake.'

    Interesting....

  • Beautiful ....can picture Joni in her sweet childhood up there in sasketchewan, canada

  • Remember who wrote that song, Joni?

Yeah that`s right, the same man you`ve claimed

to be a plagiarist and a fake.. well, who`s fake now?

  • @douglasmagnanimous you are wrong

  • great song..eery voice... she reminds me of <carrie.in a good way.

  • one of the best vids on youtube!

  • marvellous stuff a great song, two great singers.

  • @ShotgunGeoffrey what's the point of being just plain rude? This woman is a supreme poet and songwriter.i suggest you change your glasses and listen to some of her albums.

  • @StephenLennon53 I didn't say I didn't like her poetic or songwriting skills did I? I just said she looked ugly in this video :L Since at one point she spits.

  • What's the point of being just plain rude? This woman is a supreme poet and songwriter.i suggest you change your glasses and listen to some of her albums.

  • @StephenLennon53 agree!! if I was the most beautiful woman in the world i'd still trade my beauty for her talent..that's how special she is..and by the way i personally think she's beautiful.

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever written...

  • Pisces has a coat so warm...to keep Him from the howling winds

  • @JoannofHtown that's 'please see he has a coat so warm...."..I'm a Saggitarius, and I also have a warm coat.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this music!!!

  • joni, i hope to hear your voice even in paradise

  • The human voice is so varied and so beautiful here.

  • Joni is so intense and incredible here! A very dynamic duo with the great Johnny Cash!

  • Hi. Have you heard this number played by Walter Trout??

    Walter Trouts version is wonderful!!

    Give it a chance.

  • @BennyThor Yes I have heard Walters version, it is amazing, not often someone improves on the original.

  • two great voices

  • Every time I hear them sing this it takes me back in time - good music does that. I never fail to experience the joy I feel each time I hear this. Great selection henhenstoll - many thanks for a rewarding and touching 2:14 -

  • Cash sang this with Dylan AND Joni on his show. Must have loved that song.

  • I was too young to appreciate this when it was on TV....but I am thrilled and STOKED to see this now...two heros singing together...thank you!!

  • This is a true masterpiece. Albeit not one of the most popular songs that Johnny performed, it's my all time favourite. And Joni is astonishing. Wow

  • Great people make great music, and great TV too…Rest in Peace Johnny Cash, you were my first hero.

  • the greatest folk baritone and the greatest folk soprano (gordon lightfoot too) singing together! how brilliant

  • Two deep, sweet, genuine voices. We are blessed.

  • Help, Bobby, please, don't let that go on!

  • I love Joni's modulations; what a great voice, and Johnny, of course.

  • fascinating - I love both performers, but never knew about this recording

  • This is awesome, nothing less!

  • 10 persons have no heart.. and didnt start living yet

  • I thought all Canadian women were fat.

  • what a dreamm i wish popular music in my time was this real

  • @quintonmayne12 popular music will never get this real again, u will have to move to new genres to get this real

  • @quintonmayne12 Arcade Fire, Readiohead, Wilco, Bill Callahan, Sufjan Stevens, Modest mouse, Sigur Rós, Clint Mansell, Flaming Lips...I'm a little tired of that attitude of old music was real, today's music is shit. You just have to make a little reserheal to realiza that isn't true

  • what a dreamm i wish music in my time was this real

  • What voices...

  • Wow, what the heck does all of that have to do with this lovely song?

  • Does anyone else find it funny that Joni rips on Bob Dylan recently yet here she is covering one of his songs???

  • @sommer5189 Nope. She made a couple of nasty, but veiled, comments about him recently and sang this song with Johnny Cash nearly 40 years ago. Don't see any connection.

She apparently enjoyed performing the song, she clearly knows (or knew) things about Dylan she doesn't care for while I enjoy the song and don't know either of them, so I'm in no position to judge their lives or opinions.

  • Dynamic Duo! 2 Genius's at play!

    I love Johny!!!

Joni Mitchel will always be my favorite artist. I think she is the most brilliant musical artist EVER! No one comes close! She is miles above everyone!

    Miles Above!

  • I could never have pictured these two together.

  • Joni's first verse is about as good as it gets.

  • I love Bob

    I love Cash

I screwed Joni .. look she was very easy in those days and Neil Young wrote Stupid Girl about her escapades with the likes of me.

  • @11xzxzxz Why did you post this obnoxious garbage?

  • Comment removed

  • @ajack2boys I can post what I like and for those who don't understand what or why I write and call it garbage; these people are mostly incapable, I have found, of understand why I would post. And these people generally lack knowledge in certain areas or lack a certain type of humor. You do you thing and I will do mine. Good luck.

  • @11xzxzxz Perhaps the reason people don't understand what you post or why you would do so is that you are incapable of formulating a coherent thought and and expressing yourself in an intelligible manner.

  • @ajack2boys That's not the problem. I perform particularly well on logic, reasoning, and essays. But as I reasoned, you perhaps lack something .. a certain intelligence (I am not indicating that you are not smart either), knowledge, humor, whatever. Very few people write and tell me that don't get me. You are one of the few who seems stupefied by my remarks and I really hope you are putting me on to a small degree but probably not .. you're probably hopeless...

  • @11xzxzxz Oh! You mean that everyone who reads your tripe, other than me, understands why you would write that you "screwed" Joni Mitchell? And that because I find your comments boorish, juvenile and vulgar, I am lacking "something" which you would identify with an adjective if you only had the intellectual capacity to do so?

I get it now! You mean that years ago, you had sex with Joni Mitchell and now you want to tell everyone about it. Congratulations! You must be so proud.

  • @ajack2boys You really are stupid and your remarks boring and stupid. You lack something .. everything a person needs to be human.

  • Comment removed

  • @ajack2boys NOBODY "NORMAL" TOOK ME SERIOUSLY. YOU NEED COUNSELING OR JUST SOMEONE TO SHOW YOU THE PERSPECTIVE OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T THINK IN YOUR NARROW RANGE. AND THOSE IN THE KNOW - KNOW JONI LIKES TO SCREW A LOT AND ALWAYS HAD AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG THAT. DO YOU THINK I WAS IMPUGNING HER JUST BECAUSE YOU WOULD?

  • @11xzxzxz How wonderful it must be to be "in the know" about the private life of someone you don't know and never will, but why on earth would you care and yet, in all this time, you haven't shared one intelligible thought or even displayed a scintilla of interest in the woman's MUSIC. Back to your fanzines, son; I have no more time for you and, to be honest, you have become a bore.

What a waste of time and energy .

  • @ajack2boys i will just ignore the ignorant. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD BUT IF THERE WAS A GOD, SEX WOULD BE ONE OF HIS GREATEST GIFTS TO MANKIND ..GET GAVE OUT SO LITTLE COMPASSION AND REASON TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU. SO YOU JUST DIDN'T GET MY GIST. AND IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT GOD'S WORST GIFT WAS .. RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS, WHO HAVE SLAUGHTER MILLIONS ..

  • @ajack2boys YOU THINK THE MUSLIMS ARE NOT DOING WHAT CHRISTIANS DID TO THE JEWS AND NON-BELIEVERS FOR CENTURIES. SPANISH INQUISITION RING A BELL? THEN CHRISTIANS WENT ON A HOLY CRUSADE TO CONVERT OR KILL MUSLIMS..NO WONDER THEY ARE SO CRAZED WITH HATE. EVEN AFTER CHRISTIANS SAT BY FOR THE HOLOCAUST, THE JEWS ARE DOOMED AFTER ALL IF THEY DON'T KNOW CHRIST THEY ARE DOOMED TOO.

  • @11xzxzxz All this time, I thought you were just some star struck 18 year old kid dreaming of getting laid. I was mistaken, You're really twisted.

  • @ajack2boys all this time i thought you were twisted and I was right. Everyone who can read all of communications backwards will know that you mistook what I mean and continue to sound out of touch with reality. When I do what I do most know when I am half-serious and half-joking and that you are twisted in thinking to not be able to distinguish. For that God will have you burn in hell. Why not, Jesus wants people to burn in hell just for not believing in the Son .. i.e. for being a thinker.

  • @ajack2boys I am not being kind to you as you religious nuts have done so much harm to others and they hardly ever apologize until it is too late. Yeah the Papacy has felt so bad about the Pedophiles Priests. And you think calling Joni a slut was bad .. get your priorities on straight. I'm sure you get comfort from religion but you take it way to far when you are so out of touch with .. a simple, perhaps lame, but not even mean joke, I made, THAT ONLY YOU MISINTERPRETED.

  • @ajack2boys Oh and what kind of jacking off do you do with boys jackoff2boys? Get a better name .. I thought mine was lame.. could yours be evil . I don't believe that but if I was a fanatic I'd believe it. Also Joni has written and sung some great great songs. You probably don't know which ones do ya mr jones? fanzines? and I'm the dumb one?

  • @ajack2boys Impugning Joni? I guess u wish you could burn me in hell. Well I want you to go straight to heaven because Jesus said there is no sex in heaven. And he left out love, compassion, empathy. So go straight to heaven, Jesus freak. And Jesus believed in slavery so since you are black .. explain to me that one? Why did Jesus say "servants obey your master" and why is Jesus doing nothing much about Poverty and AIDS in Africa. And no I am not a racist, my best friend Ross is black.

  • @11xzxzxz man you're so twisted get a life and let go of your jesus bullshit

  • @brilles Exactly all we know about jesus is bullshit .. you got it now man. And if you don't like me and the good times we had .. Walk On.

  • @ajack2boys If I went overboard or made an unnecessary remark (I wanted to shock someone I knew just a little - someone I knew would be viewing this page but it didn't concern u and it only bothered u enough to write). So just keep your remarks to yourself from now on, please. But don't think for a second you are more moral than me; underlying your criticism of me is your holier than thou attitude so that is one thing I am sure I can't stop you from... your conceit .. for no obvious reason..

  • @11xzxzxz I don't get into "trouble" for my remarks. I respond to people who post things that are viulgar, sexist, racist or simply cruel. I do so with the measure of vehemence that I feel is warranted given the circumstances and I make no apology for doing so.

I have no interest in your taste or your opinion of my taste in music. Frankly, I find your posts and justifications for them to be as I expected; juvenile and boring.

Good bye and good luck growing up.

  • @ajack2boys sorry for the large type.. I wish I could take it back but your imaginary god should first take back a thousandfold of cancers, worms that crawl out of African's eyes, AIDS in Africa, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, horrible wars, the Black Death, childhood bullies, mental illness, and zealots as you. no, not to hurt you just to enlighten your weird thinking that you share with half the world.

  • @ajack2boys See I am usually more honest than most and will not hesitate to compliment an evil person as you. Just kidding. Seriously. Good luck with your views and hopefully we never meet again or as Bob D sang " when you go your way and I go mine". Of course you think I am going to hell but I know the truth and your reasoning is off there too.

  • @ajack2boys YEAH AND I WAS NOT LOGICAL TONIGHT WITH YOU. I ONLY JUST REALIZED YOU WERE COMING FROM AN ANTIQUATED RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS PERVERSE PERSPECTIVE AND YOU THOUGHT THAT IF I SAID JONI SLEPT AROUND I WAS SMEARING HER GOOD NAME. LISTEN .. IF I CALLED JONI A SLUT THAT IS MY COMPLIMENT TO HER.. LUCKY OF HER TO HAVE A LOT OF GREAT SEX IN HER LIFETIME.

  • This made my ears bleed

  • one of the best 2 minutes 14 seconds in world history

    Pigen fra det højeste nord.wmv

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow... look at Joni then vs. now... ever wanted to quit smoking?

  • i think im in love.

  • i ejaculated a bit at 57-58 seconsds.

  • Such wonderful harmony between Joni & Johnny, This made my wife cry! Excellent music.

  • Joanie & Johnie sure do a beautiful duet on this. Wonder, though, why they were forced to do only a fragment. But, Lord: Joni's Voice, in these few seconds we get, Is So Perfect. Maybe the best i;ve ever heard it sung.

  • so brilliant - hope netflix has this tv show on dvd

  • Beautiful vocals and fairly good chemistry but the arrangement is awful. They should have done this with either just Johnny on guitar or entirely acapella.

  • Wow Johnny is totally smitten!

  • This gives me musical chills everytime I listen to it. Amazing.

  • @falconer333 As soon as Joni starts singing...it's chicken skin.

  • Wow. Terrific.

  • If you get the Best Of The Johnny Cash Show CD it has a longer version of this particular duet on it. The song was shortened for television broadcast which is really too bad because it is such a beautiful performance.

  • One of my favorite Dylan songs. I also love Shelter from the storm, and Just like Tom Thumbs Blues.

  • what a great version of a great song.

  • This is so American...

  • Surely you mean Canadian!

  • Dylan is Dylan and this is his song --always will be but Joni's voice : my God what a treasure -- Johnny Cash has a good baritone

  • putain qu est ce que c est beau!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    encore plus beau que dylan

  • But listen to Bob, there you get your chills. This is just...nice.

  • If I had my way, Dylan would be the Poet Lauret , but his voice? But come on, Joni has one of the greatest around. I often go back and listen to the source but for sheer musicality, I'd go w/ most of Bob's covers anytime: Peter,Paul, and Mary; Collins, Baez, I could go on and on up to the present (same with our second best writer, Leonard Cohen). To each his own.

  • Voice is difficult to judge. Dylans voice sounds like "sand and glue"to quote David Bowie, sure, but the expression? That is the point, so many singers cover and sing along quite nicely but the feeling, the deep meanings transmit only a few.

Joni sings a lot of her own songs with great expression, though - and of course, she is a big artist!

  • No argument there.

  • A hauntingly beautiful ballad. Thanks for posting such a lovely tune.

  • Comment removed

  • Johnny probably had a present he wanted to give to Joni.

  • Bob Dylan wrote this actually.

  • I wrote that.

  • what a beautiful song! romantic.

  • my tears fall.....so beautiful

  • amazing

  • Roy Harper did a fantastic version of this song also. Soz Can`t remember which album it was on but brilliant anyway.

  • What a beautiful tribute song Dylan wrote for his first true love... and Joni sings it so purely... Thank you.

  • I've got the MP3 of this TV performance (well, I'm almost certain it's the same), there's a bit missing from this video that I think is the best part of the whole song... She sings the line "I'm wondering if he remembers me at all" and it's so plaintive and beautiful and... wow.

  • I wanna play harp on that...

  • wow they hav a beautiful voice

  • A really good version of a great Dylan tune.

  • uhhh

  • Both Johnny Cash and Elvis were very popular before they died. Maybe not to our generation (20-somethings), but they were both huge in their day.

  • i know they were it just seems like they both just exploded when they died!

  • they had exploded onto the music scene when they were alive, especially elvis who was broke records and had girls fainting at his feet, just admit that u were wrong...

  • Johnny was a living legend!! He was well recognized way before his passing.

  • um, well considering that he had his own show, and is one of the most well known and recognized country music personalities in the world, I'd say someone knew him when he was alive. What's really impressive is how he reestablished his spot before he passed. He was an amazing personality.

  • Gee Im 42 and Cash was a legend when I was born.

  • Been living in a box ? OR JUST VERY YOUNG?

  • Miss Mitchell and Mr. Cash...sublime...

  • Indeed. OMG. Shoot me now......
