Anyways, looking back on it, dynamics, tempo, articulations, etc. could use work but we were like, 11-14 years old and had 3 days :P
On a side note, if anyone has any recordings of the SD High School Honor band from the year 2005-2006 I would worship you if you could get them to me :D
Now that i hear again after being forced to play real fast from my conductor. This is kinda slow. And the te-te-te-te-te-te-te! is not clearly seperated.T.T
they play it to slow, and they stared a little slow, and as everyone says dynamics, but otherwise its fine. its ostalgic cause i played this so long ago but it was good.
Seems a it slow to me, but that might just be me. Anyways, somethings for your band:
Dynamics: The intro should be loud (marked fortissimo), but then after the first quarter note in measure 5, all the instruments should be much quieter. The quarter notes marked forte, before the the eighth rests, should be played accordingly. Have some crescendo and decrescendo in the dotted quarter notes in the 6/8 time. At measure 65, the first time around should be piano, and the repeat should be fortissimo.
i luv thi song its so much fun 2 play i have 1st and its awsum!!!!!!!! im dojn it for regular band not honors so we must b better than these ppl......
I was in the San Diego City Honor Band, 1st Chair Bass Clarinet, and 7th Clarinet....But that was last year, tommorow, night is My Honor Band Teyouts, for San Diego City Honor band....but last year, we played El Cpaitain, but we also played, Chillers and Thrillers, Slections from Wicked, Flight of Valor, and I am forgeting one...Sorry....
Overall this is good because of the ages in the honor band, but this piece to slow. Im playing this song for high school marching and got 1st part even though im Freshmen. The 16th were missing and tonguing is pretty hard if you werent in band for a long time.
What are you talking about?? it's a march, and march speed is 120 BPM... if this isn't dead-on 120... then its very slightly lower... but VERY slightly
HI my high school band is playing this song for a concert next week. I am very impressed with the way these guys played it. IT was pretty good but it was too slow and the dynamics were not exaggerated enough considering it is a march piece. DIdn't emphasize the surprise chords enough. COuld not hear the 16th notes at 78 to 90. Overall, pretty good.
The oldest musician was 14, the youngest was 11. They came from at least a dozen different schools. They rehearsed only five times before this perfomance.
hey!! my name is zach gelwix and i was a percussionist in this band.....i thank you very much for putting this video online...any chance others will go online?
I borrowed a school video camers, and the tape seems pretty bad. I'm having a tough time getting the rest of the concert off the camera. I'll try using a Mac at Hillsdale tomorrow morning and see if that helps. So, the short answer to your question is "Maybe."
Thank you very much...I never new Kelsey was so talented at the piano!! Well tell her i said hi and i i had a good time working with her. Thanks a ton.. Zach

Easiest march to play.

Would have been better if they avoided dragging.

ps the low bass has to play louder.

true its a march piece....and they just dragged it out
my music that i have says to play it 112-120 at march tempo but by my estimation (with a metronome) i think they went about 108 ish

pretty good for 11 year olds

Thus, there should be a BIG change in dynamics. Also, at measure 39, some of the instruments overpowered the more important, melodic parts.
Besides that, your band did pretty good for only five rehearsals. Nice articulation (except where the quality failed), especially in the trumpets.
