@MarionCullen13 Yeah it's pretty worth it. Really short read and has a great distopian message. Plus it's a great science fiction cornerstone of literature. Have fun!!
I found that part 1 was interesting, part 2 was so boring that it literally put me to sleep, and part 3 was really good untill he meets the hobos who are walking libraries. All in all, i found that the book is more interesting to talk about than to read
We read this in class my freshman year, and even though we discussed it many times, this video helped me actually understand and appreciate this book for the first time! Great review, I will definitely be back for more. :)
i am as excited about the chocolate pez as i was to find out there are chocolate cheerios!!!!
i read this book quite a few years ago but just loved it. i love dystopian books. the 60's movie was recently on. quite amusing in their version but interesting to compare the book to :)
Hi Matt! Are you getting tired, yet, of seeing me type 'Great review! Wonderful, as ever!'? I read this ages and ages ago, but my memories are now mostly of the film. Must put this on my re-read list. Sigh. Another one.
Please do answer RandomActsOfCod's question... I'm so curious!
May I be so bold as to answer that question you posed him? (Such a buttinski, me.) I just love the question so much. Hope he answers it! I have definitely thought about this one. Hands down, no question, I would be The Diviners by the incomparable Margaret Laurence. It's a magnificent book.
I read it. because we read part of it in school (the part where Montag meets Clarisse). I thought the realtionship between those two would have been great to get into a little more. And i was interested in the background of the whole book-burning-theme.
We ended up reading Brave New World. Though admittedly dystopias are not my favorite thing to read...
I've been meaning to read this book for ages, but after this it has been put on my mental 'essential urgent reading' list. This is beginning to happen rather too often with your book reviews.
I just had google 'Pez' to find out what it was. Can't really go wrong with chocolate though. :)
Y'know, I had friends who were assigned 451 in high school English; I never was. I finally read it about 3 months ago. I remember having read half of it long ago in the 1980s.....I finished it this time. I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone but [ALERT] the humans revert to oral storytelling/history with each guy becoming a volume (so to speak). I can't find my copy at the moment....durn.
Your reviews never fail to make me want to go out and get a book I've known I should read for a while, and actually read it. Not to mention that your literary analysis is killer!
They had us read "Farhenheit 451" in 7th grade... I didn't enjoy it then, mostly because we had to hear it read on tape, by a man who had perfected the monotone.
But I think I'll have to take another look at it now.
Weird coincidence: I just got 'Fahrenheit 451' in the mail from my dad. Well, about a week and a half ago. I still haven't gotten around to it, though. Now, I'll definitely need to crack it open.
I have not read this book in ages. And I believe I only read it once. I have this horrible habit of only reading books once. There are very few books (beside comic books) that I read more than once, the most notable of which is "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster. I have read "1984" multiple times, though.
I quite enjoyed the idea of the people in this book as "a society of Deceptions." Wonderfully descriptive.
I want to read it!
is it worth it?

@SuperNerd707 I have not, though I'm fairly sure this is one of those books my sister keeps telling me I should read.

Excellent review...many try to make this into a rant on right-wing ideologies, and you didn't go there.

That quote about ignorance is one of my all-time favorites in literature.
Enjoyed the review, as ever. [:

I love this book so much. It was one of those books they made us read for English class that I read in a day. Also, chocolate Pez. That's it.

Great review, Matt!
I remember reading this back in 10th or 11th grade and I enjoyed it.
This review ... it really got me thinking. I might have to re-evaluate some things in my life.
And chocolate Pez?! Wow!

The name of this book interested me after Michael Moore made some movie called "Fahrenheit 9/11."
