But Black Metal - No. I wouldn't call Cradle of Filth black metal, especially their newer stuff.

My personal dislike of the band aside - I understand Cradle of Filth's particular subgenre has provoked a great deal of discussion. This is just my own take on it.

@wolfdreamer1992 Part of the problem is that there are still elements from the black metal in their music ( blast beats, high pitch screams, highly distorted guitars and so on ). Of course the others elements aren't black metal ( keyboards, female vocals, obvious influence from the British Goth rock bands and from Iron Maiden.. ). But i agree Cradle Of Filth are not "pure" black metal.

@n4mel3ss Well, in my opinion, you have The Sisters Of Mercy ( obvious because Cradle have done a cover of "No Time To Cry" ). Then on some instrumentals i find them pretty close to some of the Dead Can Dance songs. And last but not least, especially on stage and in video clips, you can see some borrows from Fields Of The Nephilim. I can even say that i see similarities between Dani Filth and Robert Smith ( it rhymes, doesn't it ? ). But that's my opinon anyway.
