The third Russ Conway piece I discovered (after Side Saddle & Roulette). Brings back memories of the school "May Fair" when I was 16 and my then girlfriend, who knew "China Tea" was one of my favourites, requested it for me on the PA system. Most of my friends and the younger teachers rose up in horror, all the parents and older teachers thought it was marvellous. I never get tired of this stuff.
I grew up in New Zealand with this single with Wee Boy of Brussels on the B side. We had it on 45 and played to death. I didn't realise it was released on 78 as well. I have never heard a 78 sound so clear. A credit to you. Many thanks, Phill
@ThePdex Phill - you're very welcome. I'm glad you noticed the great sound that can be achieved from 78rpm if played on the right equipment. By the way, 'Wee Boy of Brussels' is also posted. Many thanks for listening.
@ThePdex It indeed sounds great but there's some filtering in the higher frequencies (I have it too). These records were pressed in the late 1950s shortly before being definitely replaced by 45s. Pressings were made in the UK with the best shellac, and also recorded on magnetic tape and then transferred to 78 and 45. They only lacked stereophony to be perfect.
Ah, the good old Garrard - affordable quality and never let me down. Thanks for the up.
