  • O-M-G I LOVE THE PART 3:46 WHEN THE ROCKETS COME OUT OF THE JETS AND SHOOT THE ALIEN!!!

  • @DmdWasserTanzt I recorded gamepley using CamStudio, then I added the music during editing. Music is available for download on the net. Go to xcomufo dot com and look under the music tab

  • never played xcom before. What one is the best one to get into?

  • @Sneak693 do a google search for xcom and steam. The original xcom is what I have uploaded here. You could save ten bucks by buying the complete pack. I never really got into the rest of the series, if you want to call it that.

  • @Sneak693 steam buy ufo defence + tftd + xcom apocalypse and you will have month of FUN.

i LOVE all three games, they are awesome.

  • jezus christ, even the original game videos have hate for the upcoming games. I'm trying to get the hell away from you unpleasant people.

  • i'd say this is pretty much save game abuse.

Lose a soldier... load up the last save and try differently.

Though you might enjoy playing like this and there's nothing wrong with it

But i in perticulair really don't like saving after each action you take.

  • this is one of the only games where i actually found the micro managing to be as fun or funner than the combat, like I would build a base dedicated as a recruitment office and pour over my recruits stats before assigning them to different outposts based on there stats, and the shit birds with all low stats would be kept on hand as fodder or base defenders

  • I can't be the only one who found the saving and reloading pathetic. Nice way to strip out any challenge.

Awesome game however, but far easier than TFTD.

  • @TrailblazingScot You are not the only one :)

  • The 4 people who disliked this are Halo kiddies who haven't played it and have NO IDEA what they are missing out on!! This game is every bit as intense as it was when I first played it in the 90s as a kid.

  • What the ? What version is this ? I would love to play this one.

  • What is that split-screen business? How do I get me some split-screen in my Xcom?

  • @f4ckutube I added the split screen to save time in the video editing. Isn't part of the game

  • Is this the original version of the game, or is it some sort of modification?

Also how do I not get my own base raided by the aliens early on.

  • @f4ckutube Base raids happen when you shoot down several UFOs. If you have a raid that keeps wiping you out I'd go to a previous save that goes back a few days. Roughly three days back might allow you to avoid the raid mission

  • @f4ckutube

If at all possible try to capture Aliens alive on a very small UFO. I had times where I captures a Sectoid Navigator or Leader and I get the Mind Shield Technology that dramatically reduce your chances of base attacks.

  • Emm...did ya put the music afterwards or it is a modification?

If it's a mod then what is it?

  • @VitalNovikov music is not a mod, I removed the original midi files and play two customed tracks. See either the setup video part of this series or visit xcomufo dot com hosted by Micah

  • @ziocody thank you =).

  • after civilization, the best game ever (but with a huge lack in sequels...)

  • 03:18 "D: .......... No way........"

  • @Ufnym This video starts FEB 3rd, only the second month of game play so it is pretty close to the beginning (see my other videos). At this point I have six bases but all are in the early stages of construction. You are right about the small arms and lack of alien technology but I didn't expect a terror ship in only one month of play! The saves ensure I capture the sectoid leader alive. Not easy when the only way to identify him is to stun him. Finally, the patrolling interceptors help spot UFOs

  • well..well.... way 12.3 read autor?

  • cmon whats with all the game saves? play it properly. ive completed it many times. AND the ps1 version

  • This game looks so complicated....

Can anyone tell me what the objective of this game is?

It looks very unique and deep.

  • @sean007s This video is part of an ongoing series. Look up ziocody setup to see the 1st tutorial. That will give you a better idea of gameplay.

  • @sean007s The objective is to defend earth, you start with crappy weapons but you can raid alien technology and research it for your squad, build bases, blow stuff up, alot of things i dont want to spoil but its a great game and alot of fun, 5 bucks on steam.

  • @sean007s Thats how games used to be...unique. Now there all cookie cutter garbage for the mass of kiddys who have a 5min attention span. I so miss the golden age of video games. Also there 'remaking" this into fps...wtf are they thinking?

  • Eagerly anticipating the continuation of this series. :)

    Is it coming?

  • I really like your analytical and tactical approach, though personally I am tired of saving so often because it makes the game way too easy.

It does seem like your few videoes here are merely part of a bigger collection, and I would love to see it all from start to beginning without editing away the "boring" bits. Will you publish a full playthrough?

  • The save/load isnt 4 everyone, Ive just found that I have a zero tolerance 4 killed soldiers. The complete playthrough, it would dawrf my other video work with countless large scout missions. I havent kept the other recordings. I do plan an outtakes reel as well as a "how to" make the game more difficult through editors. This includes improving alien armor of some, health of others, decreasing ammo per clip, adding leader type aliens to smaller crafts, forcing the use of clips with laser weapons

  • I'm Play this game long time ago, by save/load , I can complete this game by the end of April , with sergent and squadie

    at superhuman difficulty

heavy plasma and blaster is the main ,

the trick is , You have to capture sectoid leader to reserch psi-lab and build 30 soliders , so you will get 7-8 guy for 80 up psi strength that will possible to go to cydonia otherwise , save/load can not help anymore,

next thing is get sectoid commander this allow you reserch cydonia

  • All points are absolutely correct. Was your end of April win during the 1st year or second?

  • @ziocody

    first year

  • The first really STRATEGIC playing I've seen in a while. Using UFO activity charts, setting Interceptors on patrol, using combined Interceptors, ect. I know it's standard tactics amongst veterans, but as most videos on YouTube will show, the average player isn't even close to knowing all that.

I still think it's awesome how this game can surprise people. The "Oh crap, it's a terror ship!" was exactly how I'd react in the situation!

  • Sorry if it sounds bad, but the game was not meant to be played by abusing the save/load function :-(.

Otherwise the strategy is kind of good.

  • ya, I agree it IS savegame abuse and not for everyone but it is in there. Still not sure if it is intended or not. Remake could remove ability to save during battlescape depending on difficulty.

  • You seem to be a very thorough player :) A bit too thorough for me. I finished the game with the initial 6 soldiers in 2 bases. Probably it took me much more time than you.

What music is this btw? Sounds very cool!

    Greets!

  • Yeah, this game allows for several styles of play. One player criticized me of over doing it with the saves during combat. I don't look down on any method. As for the music, check out my custom edits posted on xcomufo. Micah was kind enough to host the two tracks in his music section. Each cut runs and hour and are named geoscape and battlescape.

  • Awesome video. Got a bit of a nostalgia overload watching it. Superb gameplay, Ziocody. Was pleased to finally see someone else who plays the way I do - saving the good turns, reloading them in again until I get the right outcome! This game was a major highlight in the history of computer games.

  • We are both fans of Firefly as well. Thanks for posting!

  • Out of curiosity, where did you get all that money from? I just started playing again, on Superhuman of course, and at Feb 1st I only had around 5 mill with 2 bases. It looks like you've done quite a bit more building too! How many missions have you had... I've been pretty careful/patrol/graph happy and have only come up with 5 UFOs so far, 3 of which were very smalls and the others M. Scouts, all dealt w/. I know I was unlucky, but is your economic situation typical? 8.8mil with all those bases?

  • Well, examining the vid/ graphs more closely I see you're at 13 UFOs and have had 160+ UFO activity... I didn't even break 80... I might restart this one... Also, I'm curious to know if all 13 were recoverable and if you keep much of anything or just sell sell sell.

  • All 13 missions to this point were shot down over land. What was wierd about the 1st day was there was a small and medium scout over the US. I've noticed some players allow the UFO to land when possible increasing artifact recovery but I compensate by shooting down just about every UFO quickly. With recovered artifacts, I sell all but the 1slated for research. The high number of UFOs shot down produces the bulk of my income. Once engineering gets going I'll manufacture alloys in the down time.

  • Other bases were tiny at the time: access lift, small radar, general stores, hanger & 1 or 2 construction projects. Economicly, my funding peaks towards the end of the month & I take an almost game ending hit once the next month begins (-funding). I'm guessing but maybe the faster you shoot down the UFOs the sooner the next UFO mission begins. I do know that if that graph ticks upwards even a little, reload, send out air patrols early on and spot them with on board radar, no area bases needed.

  • could you possibly explain the layout of the other bases...i saw the start of your 2nd but i didnt see anything about the others

  • It will be in a later video explaining base layout better, thanks for viewing

  • love the videos, hope there's more to come!

  • I was waiting to see things turn south after watching the last videos! Haha, god I love the mercilessness of that game at Superhuman... not to mention the easier difficulties if you don't play with ungodly efficiency! Judging by how long ago you posted this I'm guessing you didn't conclude it successfully... or at least in a Youtube friendly(load minimum) way... Three Cyberdisks/MC at SH w/o lasers or plasma! Good luck with that! Nice videos though, that mission should prove tough to finish!

  • still editing it down to ten minutes for more practical viewing.

  • Glad to hear that, I look forward to seeing how you got through that sticky situation! I've been playing Xcom since I was seven and it's situations like this that bring me back again and again... and again and again and again...

  • ho can u get that quality of sound in game? i use dosbox but i cant get the same quality as your video :S

  • I play using D3DWindower, similar to dosbox and explained in the setup 1st video. I then record using CamStudio on the highest setting. I edit the video and correct the drifting audio.

  • @ziocody Can you please tell me the details when you're using CamStudio? I'm interested in what screen capturing codec you use, and also, if you recompress it after. Please reply :)

  • @JoshuYT In CamStudio I record the highest possible quaility, then edit the video with Edius & export the file in HD as an .M2T for uploading to youtube. A 15 minute video will be around 2gigs. I haven't had a chance to encode to MP4 which will reduce the size & keep the quality. A note about CamStudio: on lengthy recordings I have had write errors when the program tries to process the audio. I'm considering recording the audio with something else like SoundForge. Video has never been a problem

  • @ziocody Yes, I think that's the problem with how AVI handles files that are over 2GB. I heard that when you get to 2GB and go over it, the video becomes unusable. Also, you upload over 1GB per upload? Doesn't that take long and take up a lot of bandwidth? But yes, thanks for replying.

  • how did you do separating screens and control both???

  • they were recorded separately and edited together to save time

  • oh..see..thanks.
