@usc5299 Just get the Lowes or Home Depot guy to install that for you. It's easier and safer for you. Why work hard when you can relax in the comfort of your home?
@usc5299 You have to "splice" into a junction box. Find one in the attic and tie your new wires into it, do not forget to hook the old ones back up also. Run the new wire to your desired location, cut hole for new light box, feed wires and install light. Make sure you are not overloading the circut and the power is off to the circut you are connecting into while doing this project. You must use a junction box for the new fixture. If you need more help feel free to email me.
Hi y'all. Do I need to hire an electrician to run wires if there isn't an old fixture? Anyone know about what it would cost. I have a brand new home 870sq ft..And sure would like some lights. I'm using those outdoor spotlights with extension cords right now.Hate that!
What a hack job. 2 code violations already. No box and taping of wire connectors. You must have all wires and devices secured to a box and illegal to use tape on connectors and devices. Because the heat can not escape. IR(sq)=pl
Sir, thank you and good luck to you. You seem like someone very quick to judge a person you've never met. I am a cognitive awareness teacher and my assistant is a psychologist. We teach compassion and understanding and would be happy to assist you any time if you are so inclined.
Lowes: 8/23,-On installing interior motion lights how do you string 2 or more lights on a line, or should you use only use 1 , 2 or 3 of the circuits or light lines that come with the unit?. Thanks in advance.
no one conveniently installed a previous fixture for me to simply pull out the old one and mount and install the new. Where do I find wires inside the walls when there's no previous existing thing to be removed there? duh? no what do I do ???
The best way to get to existing wires is to go in your attic and find a junction box. It will already have power to it so don't touch the bare wires if you open it up. Inside any of the junctions should be 3 wires (BLACK, WHITE & GREEN) hot, neutral & ground. Look for a place to tie in that is closest to the wall you want to mount to outside, Next buy the length of wire you need (it will be called 12/2 wire but there will be 3 wires). 12 is the standard gauge for 120 volt circuits in homes.
@manwang Your the one who sounds like an asshole, he has a valid point and he will never know unless he asks. F*ckheads like you make people like me wanna punch your face...
@dirk44pitt I can tell this. The 1 white wire has black tape on it. This tells you it is now a hot ungrounded conductor. But the hack who did it was wrong. They feed power to the non-existing box. blk and wht. the wht should of stayed in the box. the other wire went to the switch. Their in the box the power blk wire connects to the white wire. Re-ID with black tape, marker, paint. then connects to the switch. Back from the switch should of been the black conductor.
the mounting bracket is it screwed into the vinyl or is there somehting inside the eave?

@videoranger he cut power to the wire....first step
@dirk44pitt i think if you use the circuit tester it should identify which wire is which
