Adorable! You see, my cat Luna is totally in love with my dog (he's a big beagle) Link. Whenever he's by the fire place, or in the hallway, she comes up to him and starts 'giving him a bath' and 'kissing' him and what not. It's so cute, but Link... is like this guinea pig... He gives puppy eyes whenever she gets near him. <3

Why isn't the cat eating the guinea pig? Why would you trust it not to? My cat would be all over that guinea pig.... over in 3 seconds. Cats are supposed to eat small critters like that. What is up with that cat? It's kinda cool they're buds, but something's wrong with that cat. It's acting like Garfield.

@commishguy There's nothing wrong with it. Plenty of cats don't acquire the "eat" reflex for certain other species; plenty of other animals do that, too. Animals are individuals just like people, and they don't all act the same.

i think it's more that the hunting instinct has been bred out of many domestic cats. The run reflex has similarly been bred out of that guinea pig :) can you imagine what an easy meal he'd make in nature ? lol they are individuals but the less developed mentally an animal is, the more their're just following a simple instinctive program, so not that much individuality.

@ogunsiron2 "That much" is a pretty vague measurement; I would say they have plenty of individuality, with discernibly different personalities in many ways and areas. Of course, as you say, the more primitive the brain the less opportunity for individuality, but cats and guinea pigs are certainly complex enough for "that much" individuality. :) Perhaps not grasshoppers, though.

@commishguy Anything larger than field mice may not trigger the hunting reflexes. The cat we had at home for instance was terrified of rabbits. The one I own now was always looking out over the grass where a lot of rabbits play, and didn't care.

Untill he once caught a rabbit (likely one already ill or injured as it was nearly as big as him). Since then he tries to hunt rabbits whenever they show up, so cats clearly have to learn to view a species as prey first.

it can be cute, but do note that cats and other large animals (even rabbits) can accidentally kill the guinea pig, even if they are just playing. I'm glad someone was nearby during the filming of this video. but please don't leave them unsupervised

Yeah, sorry (I love the video) but my cat was like that, then he hurt one when I was away. Just though you might like to know cats are very cunninga and make you think they like guinea pigs so you leave them by themselves, when actually they don't.

@bestfwiends4eva That's why you don't leave them alone. Playtime with other species should always be observed. On the flipside though, cat (and dogs) aren't all that averse to other species. Their instincts can lead them to 'adopt' other animals. But again, that doesn't mean you should leave them alone.
