As a sidenote, Reed still expresses regret over this video because it has influenced others to seek shelter in underpasses even though he and many other chasers and experts have continually emphasized that it's an incredibly dangerous, even deadly place to hide and should NEVER be used.
And now it isn't "amateur storm chaser" but "awesome, hot dude with a doctorate in meteorology and forecasting, a huge following, his own chase tours, a huge website, and oh yeah, his own TV show."
Why do people do this?! If it's to study tornadoes, then I'm sure that there is a method of study twisters WITHOUT RISK OF BEING IN THEIR PATHS.Sure it's not as stupid as walljumping onto a bench sideways, but the whole thing seems pretty stupid to do!
@BusterBeetleX Some people just enjoy it. Its an adrenaline rush. People do a lot dumber things than this, and this is not even dumb to begin with. Its just a storm that people want to film.
@BusterBeetleX Unfortunately the space between your ears and your brain has lost the connection. The reason Storm Chasers chase tornados is because if they do not go out there then there will be no one to call it in so people will hopefully be warned in enough time to save lives. Also a lot of them need to get close to them to collect the data they need so hopefully one day people will no longer get injured or even worse DIE!! Storm Chasers are HERO'S.
I don't want to get into a religious debate w/this comment, but I want to post it. In March and April, 1999, a man went on a march up and down a street in Fort Smith, AR carrying a giant cross on wheels. He was finally interviewed by the news, and told them he had a dream and was told by God that Fort Smith had sinned and would be destroyed by the largest tornado ever in history 1 mile wide w/300 mph winds. I went to school that way each day so many mornings we saw him w/the cross.
@vaibanez17 He said this in April. He said that he felt that he could beg God's mercy and show that we were still a "Godly" city. Many people said he was crazy and only a few people said "If he really believes in this I won't call him a liar" type comments that I know of. Anyways, he stopped doing this right at the end of April. We never saw him out again on the road with the cross. Then May 3rd, 1999 that mile wide tornado hit with 300+ winds. I will chalk it up to "undetermined".
The wind you got there, under that bridge was not 300 mph, the funnel would have been crankin that but you were not inside the twist..........luckily for you because there is no way you would have survived.
@IndianBhagwan1 No, there isn't. Go look at the noaa's website. They only have up to EF-5. There are 6 levels to the scale. EF-0, EF-1, EF-2, EF-3, EF-4, and EF-5.
@Landrar this is true. interesting thing is this. you can have a mile wide tornado anywhere. the f scale is based primarily upon damage done. if a mile wide tornado does little damage, ( very unlikely lol) it will be classified at less than an ef5 scale
@yamahonkawazuki Yep, happened with the Mulhall Ok tornado. Only received an F4 status because it only hit the small town of Mulhall, Ok. Radar showed it to be just as intense as the Moore tornado, just bigger.
Since it didn't hit much, though, and it was already winding down when it got to Mulhall, it was rated as F4.
@Landrar I'm just going off what I was told by various people (news crew ((what they were saying back in May&June)), some people that were helping with our cleaning up, etc.)
To all the critics who think they know everything about a tornado, let's put you half a mile from an EF5 tornado and let's see how your non experience tactics come in to play.
Big sonuvva bitch is so massive and powerful that it broke the damn scale! There should be an F6 factor here, though, just so that we can easily recognize the most powerful tornadoes in history.
If they detect a tornado like this, run, you can easily outrun a tornado by getting in your car, they just don't want everyone getting on the road and causing a fatal traffic jam. By all means get the fuck out of there
in the old f-scale anyting over 300+ mph is considered a f6 since it was considered unthinkable at the time that winds could get that high. plus if u were in that tornado like i was it was absolute hell on earth literally

Wow. That's some serious adrenaline addiction those chasers have. I suppose the philosophy would be, if you're gonna die, at least get a front-row seat, it'll be a helluva show?
PEOPLE SHOULDNT ARGUE ABOUT GOD ON A VIDEO THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GOD. damn since when did god have anything in common with huge swirling clouds of mass destruction?
@SonicFan977 We Know! We're sorry he didn't get sucked up and driven into a barn like a nail because he's in the way being a dumbass while folks with common sense are trying to get away from it!
It's like, we've got a narrow country road let's drive like mad for safety. Oh wait here's a couple of dipshits probably live 2 states away coming straight at us giggling like little girls holding a camera weaving around not watching where they're going, gonna get us all killed.
@adamania you fucking cock sucking idiot, you do know god created every single thing in the whole universe including nature right !!!! not a leaf falls of a tree without gods will, you dumb crack head!!!!!!!!
@adamania fuck you my parents are christian and i grew up going to church but now i dont go so fuck you who the fuck you think you are that you think you can judge me you stupid fuck!!!!
@TheJmb24 Dayum, who'd have thought I would have created such a ruckus with religious people in this video of them all. I'm feeling outnumbered! Anybody NOT religious in here?
@TheJewelChest Reality is what we make in our heads, this includes nature. Think about space, and the strong likelihood that more life exists out there, and you begin to think of processes of life outside of some one conscious force/being creating it.

Ours (Joplin,MO May 22, 2011) was considered an EF6 considering the following:
Size, winds, damage, death toll, path, lengh of path.
Lacey4129 1 month ago
@Lacey4129 No, it wasn't. There is no such thing as an EF6. There are 6 levels on the scale. EF0, EF1, EF2, EF3, EF4, and EF5.
It got as wide as 1 mile. There have been others measure up to 4 miles wide.
There were no wind speed measurements, but damage indicates 200+ mph speeds.
Damage done is typical of EF5 tornadoes.
Path is irrelevant.
Length of path is irrelevant, though it was only on the ground 6 miles, hardly record breaking.
It was an EF5.

Sorry they lived.

TheJewelChest 3 months ago
@TheJewelChest the bible is 1 big lie a man made up. more and more people everyday give up there religions.
Restokilerah 3 months ago
@Restokilerah I didn't say anything about a Bible or Religion....
TheJewelChest 3 months ago
@TheJewelChest Reality is what we make in our heads, this includes nature. Think about space, and the strong likelihood that more life exists out there, and you begin to think of processes of life outside of some one conscious force/being creating it.
