Jesus was not a Pacifist. He was an Essene. He was the original revolutionary. Trash your Bible. Open your History Books and your MIND! And he lived well beyond the Cross! Here, on Earth.
I liked this song. The song borders between parody and realism. It's a parody because there's not enough to take it seriously, but if it's flayed it can be taken seriously. I know it's a contrradiction, but that's the only way I can understand it.
The version with Carl Anderson's own voice playing is the one entitled Heaven On Their Minds(2)posted by the great poster of so many of these from JCS RicBNH.
By the way, it needs pointing out that what you're seeing/hearing above are 2 different things. The sound is from the original London recording with Murray Head as Judas. The video is the movie with Carl Amderson. I am amazed that the audio matches up with the video almost to perfection. Unlike the overrated Ted Neeley, Carl sings this almost exactly the same as Murray did. Watch the orig. movie with Carl singing to hear the different voice but the almost exact phraseology if that's the word.
Thanks Chris. I like Anderson's version for being at least close to the original but if I wasn't clear, I like Murray's version best also. So what is it you disagree with ? After watching again I think it matches up more in the first part but still amazing that drmediausor someone got this orig. audio to match the video so well.
i don't specifically remember but i think i disagreed with you writing that 'Carl sings almost exactly the same as Murray did.' because Murray did a perfect job to quote myself and Anderson is of course not bad. he's a great singer but this song is supposed to be sang the way Murray did. that's the top. and i'm sorry from your comment i didn't really get that we agree on this matter.
Sorry but the audio track is straight from the British version of JCS - the one with the brown cover. So YES the audio track IS Murray Head 100 % for certain. The video is another story but that's not what I was talking about.
@toemeraldcity Have you heard Adam Lamberts version from his Pre Idol days? I was just looking for other versions for comparison but Adams is best. watch?v=Kw1fznPBu6U
@magsmagenta I'm sure its amazing haven't heard vocal talent that good in a VERY long time!...I always said Adam was Elvis reincarnated....but if you saw the live performance of Carl Anderson you would have to agree its amazing too! He sung with such passion and conviction!
@toemeraldcity I totally agree. I knew a tad bit about how the theater works so took my friends back behind the theater on the last night this was in Baltimore. We not only got the company to pass around our programs and sign them, we waited for a while and met Carl and Ted also. It almost felt to me, being raised seeing Ted as 'Jesus' like I had really met Jesus. That was an interesting experience; a true once in a lifetime moment.
Surprised no one has answered this yet. I just found this post tonight or I would've answered sooner. Answer: The great Murray Head. So far as I recall his only prominent solo work was One Night in Bangkok - remember that one ? In all sincerity a great voice, goes great with Ian Gillan's which is why this version crushes all others like a grape. Of course you can Google or Wikipedia Murray Head if you want more info.
My mind is clearer now At last All too well I can see Where we all Soon will be If you strip away The myth OF man You will see Where we all Soon will be GES'-IT'S-US! You've started to believe (what ontology sets up the fill in blank for sci/religio/philos?!)... But every word you say today Gets twisted 'round some other way (reason is a whore).... We are occupied Have you forgotten how put down we are? (Orion Group)
Ummm...if this is Carl Anderson and the film version then the Jesus part would be sung by Ted Neely...? I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.

What's parody here?
Suspend your disbelief enough to imagine that you've joined a group of revolutionaries under an oppressive political regime.
Now imagine that the leader of this group has started claiming that he's the son of god.
That's what this soing is about.
