He does some uptempo tunes. I just bought this one CD - a combination of two of his CDs - Today and I've beenThere. The songs are: Meditation, Radindrops Keep Falling on my Head, Summer Wind, Feelin Groovy. It's a great CD. A beautiful rendition of Folks Who Live on the Hill !!!
You know, I can't really answer that one way or the other because his up-tempo version of "Girl Talk"(which I'll post in the morning) is fun, fabulous, etc., but, on others, he's so far behind the beat, I can't really get to it.
Don't think the sublime Mr. Hartman ever got the recognition he so richly deserved during his lifetime. When Clint Eastwood included several of his recordings in the soundtrack for "Bridges of Madison County" in the mid-90s, he finally became known to a much wider audience.
Had never heard about Johnny Hartman until 2 weeks ago. Once discovered, the haunting beauty of his songs (this one and "My One and Only Love") keep playing endlessly in my head. Don't know how many times I have pressed the "Replay" button. Thanks for posting!
Through You tube I have scored another find; a great singer who I just discovered today. My god, the old saying, it ain't fair that it ain't right that this man is not mentioned anywhere. What a shame.
@grenadian11 Because he's classical and class has gone out the window...I love Johnny Hartman..Pop Culture has taken over and you don't really have to have any talent...you just have to be able to create drama..and expose yourself.
It's voices like that, that will and can break a heart. The tender sadness, brings quiet tears to your breaking heart. Mr. Hartman, Mr. Hartman. God gave you a voice that is still echoing through the heavens.
That is one smooth incredible voice! Wrapped in silk wrapped in a pink sunset cloud wrapped around my heart. Thank you for posting and thank Johnny for being such a great singer!
A brilliant singer who really never got his due. He somehow got lost in the shuffle between Billy Eckstine, Roy Hamilton, Arthur Prysock, Brook Benton, and Joe Williams. All of whom had much greater success than he. He began his career in the 40's and went into the 70's somewhat under the radar and never had a hit recording. His most famous album is the one he did with Coltrane which is now a classic.
Along w/ Mr. Hartman, be sure to check out Billy Eckstine and Arthur Prysock. The latter's "I Could Have Told You" and "Your Body Makes Eyes At Me" are phenomenal.:)

I think Johnny Hartman signs ballads better than anyone else, even early Frank Sinatra. Has Hartman done anything else besides ballads?
IZZYIZZO2001 7 months ago
@IZZYIZZO2001
He has done some uptempo tunes, but, they've never caught on like his ballads.
I don't remember any specific tracks offhand, though.

@TheReturnOfStephan1 If you find out which songs, please let me know. I want to hear more Hartman!
IZZYIZZO2001 6 months ago
@IZZYIZZO2001 You'll have to search through his results here on YT, because, to be honest, they're not my favorites of his work.

Unfortunately, UMG has blocked my post of Mr. Hartman's "Girl Talk".

@IZZYIZZO2001 Nature Boy is an uptempo song the way Hartman does it.

Lost him far too soon.
