@MYlastthought I completely agree. I am a young driver and I have never had an accident in my car. I make sure that people know I have only been driving for 8 months every time anyone asks to get into my car. And I have never been drunk while driving, or been high or anything else that may effect my driving. I am also sorry for your loss but it's unfair to blame every accident on the road on one group of people. Yes young drivers are inexperence but every driver in the world was at some point.
@mumandtwins yes because they are new drivers and there are many of them. But the point I have made is still correct. You can't blame one group of people for something terrible which has happened and then deem them responable for ever incident there after. Anyone can go out and have some kind of bad accident which is fatal on any day of the week at any time. It's just up to timing really, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Accidents unfortunatly happen everyday.
@StrangelyGreat you don't get it do you, teenagers are grossly over represented in Road Crash Statistics, I am not that stupid not to realise that Crashes happen every day, it is not a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and yes ANYONE can become involved in a crash it does not matter what age, the point of my videos is RISK MINIMISATION young drivers are at a higher risk than any other agegroup. I am also not that stupid to hold them responsible for every crash that happens
@mumandtwins' Young drivers exhibit certain attributes that contribute to their higher risk of road crashes. These include: * Lack of experience * Risk taking behaviour * ' I see where you coming from I really do and I am really sorry for your loss. Respectfully I am. But I just wanted to say that yes some young people can be idiots and some people can think it's funny go get high and drive around or drink but as young people we do get a lot of bad press just because of a few bad apples.
@StrangelyGreat as in many parts of society the few bad apples spoil it for the rest this is even more reason for young drivers to help and participate in the education of other young drivers about the risks, and most importantly consider the risk themselves. I have been driving for 23 years and never been involved in a major crash, although I have been rear ended by an impatient 19 year old driver, in the city, thankfully no one was seriously injured
Too many people are commenting on this youtube video that I didn't know existed about my families tragedies.. They have no idea what they are talking about most of all.. Inexperience was to blame & an unsafe road area if better lighting & a better bridge was installed amongst other things they wouldn't have died & would have been able to share Christmas with us & my life would have been a lot different!
My family suffered the lost of 2 boys as you seen in the video & its very hard to watch!
@labuenavida86 I expected my own son to have learned from Jamies death sadly it was not to have happened, my own son Dion lived in the shaddow of his cousins crash and now my children live in the shaddow of their brother and their cousins death May all the boys RIP
@paigesweeney1 Sadly when they become teenagers, things do change, just keep communication open at all times, you child will eventually make their own choice even if you don't like those choices. it better to have some idea on what they get up to, than not at all.
look i realize this was tragic and that reckless teenagers were to blame, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt drive. we just need to be more careful. if you pull the driving age up these things would still happen. im sorry for your losses but that steryotipical remark in the description was definetly NOT apreciated. perhaps the law should simply be no minor should be allowed to drive anyother minors, that way, though people would still die, it would not be so bad asnot that many yong people died
@MYlastthought the point is have the laws in place for teenage drivers, so they have a chance to survive into adulthood where they will then have the rest of their lives to drive. and the capacity to in a safe manner, The statistics on youth death on the roads cannot be argued with at all, as with youth serious injury, this costs the community much more. not just the families
A 13 year old friend of mine was killed Oct 17, 2009 when the 17yo driver of a SUV carrying 4 teens was speeding, ran off the road, and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip 3 times. Tyler and 2 others (14 and 11) were ejected. They were not wearing seat belts (they were changing seats at the time of the wreck). They were airlifted to a trauma center. The 11yo girl is paralyzed, and Tyler died that night.
@ the author of this video: seriously, are you fucking stupid? why make stupid generalisations on all of us teenagers when your son and his cousin were acting carelessly while driving? How, you might ask? your son was driving fatigued which is pathetic.
Most of us actually take care while driving. I hate people who use their phone/idiot kids who drive stupid, so i'm not one of these kids that had to learn the hard way
Besides, you were a young-inexperienced driver once too.
I own a car with an engine that runs on 4 cylinders. if I accelerate too hard or push it too hard on the motorway, it'll suddenly splutter and revert to 3 cylinders - losing 25% of its power and ruining the engine. if I stop and leave the car for an hour or so it sorts itself out . My driving style has changed completely since this engine problem started. In 5 years I have become a very careful and relaxed driver. I've totally forgotten the luxury of driving fast and can't say I miss it.
that is what makes this sort of tragedy happening again to the same family, so sad, also with the death of my nephew Jamie and Tim 3 yrs later, just down the road, and the fact that my own son grew up in the shaddow of these accidents lost his life 8 yrs later. such an unnecessary waste of life and potential
I agree so so strongly with you. I am fourteen and I lost my exboyfriend to a car crash last year. He was sixteen and I love him still so much. Only in death did we part. And for those of you who drink and drive STOP for bloody sake, are you that selfish to be okay with putting all those who love you through such damn turmoil?!
The first was caused by a middle aged woman in a Landcruiser (weighing almost three times as much as my car, I might add) who pulled out in front of me in an 80km/h zone. The second actually happened earlier this morning when an elderly man merged into my lane without even a casual glance out his side window. In both cases, it was only my alertness, reflexes and experience that avoided a crash. Lets not assume all teenage males are reckless, inexperienced drivers.
I could do up a video involving elderly drivers too, after all statistics are high for those over 70 as well as the 16 to 25 age group, but I don't know of any elderly who have been involved in road crash. I have more experience with the teenagers loosing their lives needlessly
the idea is a good one, however unless a teenager can get access to a designated track they will continue to use the streets. I am in favour of raising the minimum driving age, OR another way is those teenagers with a history of irratic behaviours have a full psych assessment prior to being legally allowed to drive a car.
Mate i reckon you have a point there,I was one of those nutters but i was lucky i didnt become unstuck. the only difference between me and those guys is that a tree or a pole didnt get in the way. If i could have released some of that on a track and show off there would have been much better and safe. Prob is no money is made out of free track days, unless governmnent funded, they will save in long run, also make defensive driving days cheaper if not free
I do not think teenagers should not be driving, I think they just need more education. I am a 17 year old driver, still on my P plates and I own a 1983 toyota with a 1995 high performance modified engine. In the year that I have owned and driven the car, I have never participated in illegal racing or reckless driving of any sort and have not put even a scratch on my paintwork. The only place I race my car is on the track. I have been involved in two close calls, both caused by others
. just stating the statical fact that happens all around the world. My friend in southern cali died of a horrible crash with his barvariain motor sports works car rolled 9 times down a steep grade most likely cause by alcohol and a
Saying that teenagers should not be able to drive is a stretch. You were a teenager once, no? You probably began driving when you were a teen as well? You're alive.
Things happen. We don't know why they happen sometimes but they happen anyways.
Punishing 100% of teenagers because of 25%(I think that's the teen death rate) is ridiculous.
In reality, it doesn't matter when anyone starts. The same lack of knowledge and experience will be there if we start at 16 or 25.
I started at eighteen. I am nineteen, near twenty, and I've never had a ding on my car. I am responsible and I drive cautiously. Even when at a green light, I still look both ways.
I am sorry for your loss, but saying that teenagers should not be able to drive, is ridiculous.
true inexperience is inexperience no matter what age a person starts driving, but an older driver doesn't have the issues related to emotional, risk taking behaviours that teenage drivers have, ie an older driver looks at driving more as a privilege rather than a Right
I also have two elderly grandparents that depend on me to do most of the things that they cannot do, for them. Without a car, without being able to drive, I would not be able to support them and God only knows what would happen to them. So just because I am a teenager does not mean I shouldn't be able to drive. I have responsibilities to take care of that I wouldn't be able to, without being able to drive.
Maybe teenagers who are not mature enough to comprehend the dangers of driving and the responsibility required to drive safely.. should not be able to drive. But all of us? That's very agist.
the point is to get the teenagers to survive without serious injury or worse, they have the rest of their lives to enjoy the Privilege of driving, just because a teen is allowed behind the wheel of a car, doesn't mean they have the Right
It is everyone's right to be able to drive, but it can be taken away like a priviledge. I understand what you're saying, and I do think that teenagers should be more careful(as well as adults) but to say that none should be able to drive isn't right. I am nineteen and without my car, I would be screwed. I worked very hard for my car and I depend on it as well as my right/priviledge to drive to get me to school and work. Without school and work, I am nothing. Just broke and uneducated.
Teens can tell everybody that they will drive safely. Guess what happens as soon as their friends start cheering them on. They drive faster and more reckless. It's not agist its factual.
believe me if theres anyone who knows about teen death, unfortunetly i can say its me. i lost 2 people that were brothers to me, my 2 best friends died dec 30th last year and i miss them more than anything in the world. less than a year ago i lost not 1 but 2 of my best friends in the blink of an eye bc of a car accident, but to say that teens shouldnt be driving is a bit over the top. everyone has to learn some where, and the skills that make someone a good driver have to come from practice
My best friend, who I loved like a brother, was killed in a car accident November 15, 2008 and he passed away right in front of my eyes. This is the hardest thing I have experienced in my life and it is not a joke when people are killed in accidents; everyone is a person and my best friend, Nicholas Goris, had more potential than anyone I know. Rest In Peace my best friend, my brother, Nick Goris.
Im sick of little twits who spam youtube with stupid comments just so they can be noticed, well mate, you have been noticed by me as a complete moron. Your comments show that
i am s sorry for your losses. :( im sitting here crying because i have a sister thats 4 months pregnant and is 17. im really scared for her. but then again, im so so so sorry
they were doing approx 120kph in a 60 zone now if you don't know the area they were stopped at the North Tce Traffic lights, about 200 metres up the road, before the peaked the gears and doing about 120kph before loosing control and hitting the first tree, and then bouncing off that into the 2nd tree
Oh My God I feel for your family, tears shedded down my cheeks as i watched and read this.
I am so sorry the world has dealt you such a severe blow. My family has also, but the teenage survivor (which was related and molested me, did not die).
Oh My God I feel for your family, tears shedded down my cheeks as i watched and read this.
I am so sorry the world has dealt you such a severe blow. My family has also, but the teenage survivor (which was related and molested me, did not die).
And also they mention that the car was believed to be leaving a city night club. These kids were doing more then just driving out of control, they broke the law in more then one way. And not every teenager is a mindless kid
yes they had spent time at a nightclub but the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol. take note it was my nephew who passed away as a passenger in his own car. Once again you are one of the kids in the high risk agegroup protesting loudest.
I totally agree. Young drivers are worst because they lack self control, like showing off how good a driver they are and often, as in this case, carry lots of passengers.
I went through a period of fast, bordering reckless driving. You do grow out of it, pretty quickly.
Preventing teen drivers carrying passengers would help reduce the need to show off and when it all goes wrong, they're the only one in the car.
I dont like the way you pin point teenagers in your videos. That could has so easily been anybody and just because rates are higher in teenagers doesnt mean that it doesnt happen every single day to adults too. Its not fair to say that teenagers shouldnt be able to drive just because some take advantage of it.
I pinpoint teenagers because they are the group at highest risk not only for fatal car accidents, it is a proven scientific fact that the human brain is not fully developed enough, thus the reason why many do stupid things like this
The other night whilst driving in my Taxi,I was stopped at a red light waiting that is what red lights are for. When this P plater in a Ford Laser goes past my left hand side doing at least 100km/h and runs the red light,
fortunately they never got hit or hit an innocent person.I could not believe the blatant disregard this person had for the road rules, they came so close to my car, that they almost took the mirror off.Why drive like this?It is so not worth it,for your families sake slow down.
i see that u have this video from 1999...i dont know if u recorded it but if u didnt would u know any way to get the past news...my family lost a dear friend and her five children in a murder/suicide in july 1999...if u know any way that would be great ....ive been searching for sooo long now
this video of my nephews accident was recorded from televison the day he died. I had it on VHS I uploaded back in Feb last year, to preserve it as the tape was getting old. your best bet would be to contact the television networks. maybe they may have some footage, but it will probably cost you to get it
Well it depends on driving experience and other factors. When you say teens should not be driving that is unfair to the responsible and good teen drivers. That must feel real bad losing a family member and I think the driving school should train young drivers more. Teens or anybody else should NOT drink and drive.
wonder how many will loose their lives within the next week. already the toll here is christmas road toll of 13 damned shame this time of year for anyone at any age.Last year, 61 people died on the nation's roads during the Christmas-New Year period.
On 8 August 2007 MY SON Dion died in a car accident as well, I have now lost 2 people near and dear to me, Dion was Jamies cousin, Dion was 18 years old. PLEASE don't let this happen to YOUR FAMILY
I am so sorry for each one of your loss ..I wonder what can be done..death and gore no longer seems to scare youth of the World.. they see it every day and they play it on video games...rhe wars..it's seems to be live fast die young..so sad.
some games that promote smashing vehicles into objects don't help the need for speed. if they have this need why not on a race track where it belongs. they just don't comprehend the finality of death some cases where they themselves loose loved ones they might or might not comprehend vehicles are a lethal weapon.
On Thanksgiving Day 2006 my Beautiful Niece and her Boy friend another couple decided to take a trip that night to Chandler, AZ, a very deadly and dangerous decision. 2:00 A.M. in the morning after visiting the friend they met their maker as The car being driven by my 19 year old nieces boy friend ran a red light crashing head on into a Semi truck killing my niece, the young man in the back,..
OMG so sorry for your loss it really is such a waste of such potential it happens all too often and to those who are young and impatient. the driver of my nephews car peaked the gears from the lights at North Tce and was doing 120kph before hitting the trees in front of the theatre less about 200 metres down the road, Just plain silliness
We had told my Nieces so many times not to ever drive with anyone who has been drinking ! It seems to me when your a young 18-19 years old you just can't fathom that your indestructible. I know I that's how I felt it's was my horrible accident that made me tell my nieces. still she is dead because she did just what I told her not to do .... She trusted her boyfriend and it ended her life and changed all that she left behind, us.I wonder what kind of a sentence he will get for the crime at 19?
when I last saw Jamie alive was in June 1999 we lived in a different town, I said to him be careful of who you let drive your car he said that there was only one and he knew what it was like to loose a brother so he was careful a month before his death I said don't use your car as a coffin 2 days before on phone I said the same to be careful teenagers don't listen that is why they should not drive
They think they're always on their feet and have cat likes reflex's but so so many are in-experienced at driving.I use to be one. But you can't put that all on them, our goverment doesnt do enough to ensure young drivers know how how to drive before hand. I urge parents to atleast force their child to take a defensive driving course as soon as they get their license. Not just a short little in class course. But a course where they actually go out and drive and learn to be defensive drivers.
good idea the instructor my son is currently going with for lessons her job is to teach him how to pass his test. he has to learn defensive driving too preferably before getting his full license
Definately a sad epedemic among young people. My heart goes out to their family & friends. All of which will never get to see their loved ones grow up, go to college, get married, have kids, have grandkids, or any of the things so many of us take for granite. Lack of experience+feeling invinsible+distractions= death for so many young people. Sorry for your loss.
Young drivers my own son included think they are good drivers they feel invincsible they get distracted. One thing my son has "just" outlived his cousin but still way too young to get his Prob license he just too immature I hope that when he goes for license he doesn't pass my son thinks because he outlived his cousin that makes him a better driver his cousin was a passenger in his own car. they just don't fully comprehend they feel they have a god given right to drive how they like
I understand oh too well it can tear a family apart as it has in my family and in the case of the other lad killed in this accident it was so sad the funerals were a day apart and the father of the other lad came to Jamies funeral.
Tim was driving Jamies Car Tim was driving because Jamie had a bit of alcohol in his system and Jamie was against drink drivers still didn't save them
I hope people my age watch this sorta vid and just realise that it isn't worth driving silly. Or even if you are driving sensibly, just to stay alert.
Also, someone i knew at school died in a car crash last year, he was just 17 as well
it is so important for young people like you to watch and learn and accept that it CAN and does happen please keep spreading thw word that it isn't worth driving silly Drive Safe and Arrive Safe
Same in Canada. I'm 23 and I know that young people around my age are the worst drivers. They have an invincible feeling in a car, yet no idea how to control it. Poor Jamie, trying to save his friends' life by being responsible. True martyrdom. RIP buddy
I lost a friend 3 years ago in a car accident, this is very thought provoking and sobering. My friend was 23...too young to die...too old to be told to slow down
It took two inch away from a pole in the side at 120km/h (sorry im a kiwi) for it to get to me speeding kills. lucky to live thank someone who watched me that day everyday
thankyou for your comment, my hubby has been over to NZ and seen the winding roads over there, in that wonderful country side, this was a case of loosing control of the car, hitting one tree then being send into the 2nd tree it was that last tree that killed them
teenagers are teenagers you can tell them till you are blue in the face. some get the message after tragedy like this. Until laws are toughened up on teenage drivers this will still happen.
That's true. A few teens understand just a little. Remember, we were young, too ... Now, as the elder ones, it's our purpose, to communicate our experiences to the youth.
at least they have now bought in graduated driver education not such a bad idea and the mock crashes at school brings it home too, maybe a trip to the morgue is warrented for some resistant teenage drivers.
Looks like bad driving runs in the family if another family member crashed/died in the same spot a few years prior.

I reckon if you didn't have your track days to release energy, you'd be one of the nutters on the public road.
Maybe a solution to the problem is that all teenage drivers can attend free track days whenever they want. It might keep aggression off public roads.

In the year that I have owned and driven the car, I have never participated in illegal racing or reckless driving of any sort and have not put even a scratch on my paintwork. The only place I race my car is on the track. I have been involved in two close calls, both caused by others

Saying that teenagers should not be able to drive is a stretch. You were a teenager once, no? You probably began driving when you were a teen as well? You're alive.
Things happen. We don't know why they happen sometimes but they happen anyways.
Punishing 100% of teenagers because of 25%(I think that's the teen death rate) is ridiculous.
instrumelody 3 years ago
I have news for you I never drove a car until I was 24 yrs old. I had no desire to drive at all before that
mumandtwins 3 years ago
In reality, it doesn't matter when anyone starts. The same lack of knowledge and experience will be there if we start at 16 or 25.
I started at eighteen. I am nineteen, near twenty, and I've never had a ding on my car. I am responsible and I drive cautiously. Even when at a green light, I still look both ways.
I am sorry for your loss, but saying that teenagers should not be able to drive, is ridiculous.
instrumelody 3 years ago 2
true inexperience is inexperience no matter what age a person starts driving, but an older driver doesn't have the issues related to emotional, risk taking behaviours that teenage drivers have, ie an older driver looks at driving more as a privilege rather than a Right
mumandtwins 3 years ago
I also have two elderly grandparents that depend on me to do most of the things that they cannot do, for them. Without a car, without being able to drive, I would not be able to support them and God only knows what would happen to them. So just because I am a teenager does not mean I shouldn't be able to drive. I have responsibilities to take care of that I wouldn't be able to, without being able to drive.
instrumelody 3 years ago
Yes but a 16 year olds risk taking factors are higher than 25.
cocoyodariver 2 years ago 2
Maybe teenagers who are not mature enough to comprehend the dangers of driving and the responsibility required to drive safely.. should not be able to drive. But all of us? That's very agist.
instrumelody 3 years ago
the point is to get the teenagers to survive without serious injury or worse, they have the rest of their lives to enjoy the Privilege of driving, just because a teen is allowed behind the wheel of a car, doesn't mean they have the Right
mumandtwins 3 years ago
It is everyone's right to be able to drive, but it can be taken away like a priviledge. I understand what you're saying, and I do think that teenagers should be more careful(as well as adults) but to say that none should be able to drive isn't right. I am nineteen and without my car, I would be screwed. I worked very hard for my car and I depend on it as well as my right/priviledge to drive to get me to school and work. Without school and work, I am nothing. Just broke and uneducated.
instrumelody 3 years ago
It's no one's right to drive, that's why there's a licensing program, it's called privilege.

And also they mention that the car was believed to be leaving a city night club. These kids were doing more then just driving out of control, they broke the law in more then one way. And not every teenager is a mindless kid
jebisaxkurva 4 years ago
yes they had spent time at a nightclub but the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol. take note it was my nephew who passed away as a passenger in his own car. Once again you are one of the kids in the high risk agegroup protesting loudest.
mumandtwins 4 years ago
I totally agree. Young drivers are worst because they lack self control, like showing off how good a driver they are and often, as in this case, carry lots of passengers.
I went through a period of fast, bordering reckless driving. You do grow out of it, pretty quickly.
Preventing teen drivers carrying passengers would help reduce the need to show off and when it all goes wrong, they're the only one in the car.
cpmisalive 4 years ago
yes they do that and a curfew as well, they need to decide on the Need to drive Vs the want to drive
mumandtwins 4 years ago
I dont like the way you pin point teenagers in your videos. That could has so easily been anybody and just because rates are higher in teenagers doesnt mean that it doesnt happen every single day to adults too. Its not fair to say that teenagers shouldnt be able to drive just because some take advantage of it.
jebisaxkurva 4 years ago
I pinpoint teenagers because they are the group at highest risk not only for fatal car accidents, it is a proven scientific fact that the human brain is not fully developed enough, thus the reason why many do stupid things like this
mumandtwins 4 years ago
The other night whilst driving in my Taxi,I was stopped at a red light waiting that is what red lights are for. When this P plater in a Ford Laser goes past my left hand side doing at least 100km/h and runs the red light,
fortunately they never got hit or hit an innocent person.I could not believe the blatant disregard this person had for the road rules, they came so close to my car, that they almost took the mirror off.Why drive like this?It is so not worth it,for your families sake slow down.

Well it depends on driving experience and other factors. When you say teens should not be driving that is unfair to the responsible and good teen drivers. That must feel real bad losing a family member and I think the driving school should train young drivers more. Teens or anybody else should NOT drink and drive.

LaDeenaJ 5 years ago
some games that promote smashing vehicles into objects don't help the need for speed. if they have this need why not on a race track where it belongs. they just don't comprehend the finality of death some cases where they themselves loose loved ones they might or might not comprehend vehicles are a lethal weapon.

OMG so sorry for your loss it really is such a waste of such potential it happens all too often and to those who are young and impatient. the driver of my nephews car peaked the gears from the lights at North Tce and was doing 120kph before hitting the trees in front of the theatre less about 200 metres down the road, Just plain silliness
mumandtwins 5 years ago
We had told my Nieces so many times not to ever drive with anyone who has been drinking ! It seems to me when your a young 18-19 years old you just can't fathom that your indestructible. I know I that's how I felt it's was my horrible accident that made me tell my nieces. still she is dead because she did just what I told her not to do .... She trusted her boyfriend and it ended her life and changed all that she left behind, us.I wonder what kind of a sentence he will get for the crime at 19?
LaDeenaJ 5 years ago
when I last saw Jamie alive was in June 1999 we lived in a different town, I said to him be careful of who you let drive your car he said that there was only one and he knew what it was like to loose a brother so he was careful a month before his death I said don't use your car as a coffin 2 days before on phone I said the same to be careful teenagers don't listen that is why they should not drive
mumandtwins 5 years ago
They think they're always on their feet and have cat likes reflex's but so so many are in-experienced at driving.I use to be one. But you can't put that all on them, our goverment doesnt do enough to ensure young drivers know how how to drive before hand. I urge parents to atleast force their child to take a defensive driving course as soon as they get their license. Not just a short little in class course. But a course where they actually go out and drive and learn to be defensive drivers.
mnetrucker 5 years ago
good idea the instructor my son is currently going with for lessons her job is to teach him how to pass his test. he has to learn defensive driving too preferably before getting his full license

Sorry for your loss.
mnetrucker 5 years ago
Young drivers my own son included think they are good drivers they feel invincsible they get distracted. One thing my son has "just" outlived his cousin but still way too young to get his Prob license he just too immature I hope that when he goes for license he doesn't pass my son thinks because he outlived his cousin that makes him a better driver his cousin was a passenger in his own car. they just don't fully comprehend they feel they have a god given right to drive how they like

teenagers are teenagers you can tell them till you are blue in the face. some get the message after tragedy like this. Until laws are toughened up on teenage drivers this will still happen.
mumandtwins 5 years ago
That's true. A few teens understand just a little. Remember, we were young, too ... Now, as the elder ones, it's our purpose, to communicate our experiences to the youth.
Go on, to get 'a blue face'. It's important.
derduesy 5 years ago
at least they have now bought in graduated driver education not such a bad idea and the mock crashes at school brings it home too, maybe a trip to the morgue is warrented for some resistant teenage drivers.
