  • "Different to"- IT'S DIFFERENT FROM!!

  • This series is still available on the bbc iplayer.

  • Sobering to think that the young lads eating the leeks on St David’s day would by now have completed 22 years of service had they stayed in!

And what a twenty-two years they would have seen - GW1, NI, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Ops TELIC and HERRICK; perhaps the "busiest" period in the British Army's existence, certainly since 1945...

I wonder if any of those lads stood on the tables made RSM or were LE Commissioned?

    God I feel old...

  • I remember this from first transmission and actually videoed (!) the whole thing. Stupidly lent it to the friend of a friend who was looking into making a similar documentary about the Russian Army... That was over ten years ago and I never saw it again. Was it ever released on Video / DVD by the BBC?

  • @MattCornish1969 I believe not. It's lucky enough to be on youtube. As I am not sure if the BBC find out that it's on youtube, it will be deleted! So enjoy whilst it lasts! You can download it if you google: youtube downloader

  • @JohnSmithTheSecond Thanks for the “steer” to the downloader; I now have all six episodes on my laptop!

I feel no guilt, as the original series was made with MY license fee (well OK, as it was ’89, it was Mum and Dad’s, but you get the picture!)

I wish I had known of the downloader before as there was an excellent instrumental of Peter Gabriel’s “Mercy Street” that was up for ages but has now been removed…

    Thanks again. Yours aye, Matt

  • This is a fascinating series. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • Who in the right mind decides "I'm going to steal an emperor's portable toilet"? Who?! I tell you!

  • @sleepyguy1 A British squaddie, that's who! ;-)
