  • I am a high school student and I have spent alot of time on the computer in the last 2 years or so due to assignments, because of this I have lost some vision as I can't see the white board from the back of the class, will these exercises help my sight

  • do we have to smile?

  • Great stuff, thanks alot!

  • it works and is there any exercises for thought relief

  • Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahanahahahanahananananahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Helped alot thanks

  • holy crap i see the hotdog this is amazing))

  • her smile is so fake - typical american smile (please no offense)

  • Looking for simple peices of advice like this is very helpful. Thank you prairie76 for reminding me how to exercise my eyes. It really does work. Being an information systems major, I stare at the computer for hours on end and this demonstration video really helps.

  • thanks they really work!

  • these guys have insane lookin eyes. Fuck this video.

  • thank u so much

    (F)

  • hmmmm , cool

    but i've got a question ..

should i do all of the 3 exercises , or just one of them would be enough ??

    Thanks in advance :)

  • @HaniJ7 - Any of the exercises will help to relax your eyes. they do it in slightly different ways and effecting slightly different muscles. Do what you enjoy, do something every couple of hours when you are on the computer, and be easy with it.

  • love it

  • This is a great on the fly technique. I'll definitely be combining them with the one hour breaks. I have a desk job which makes it difficult to get away from screens. I also have special prism lenses on the way as I have a mild strabismus that makes the strain even worse. Every little bit helps. Thanks for this!

  • magic hotdog ftw. :P

  • Hope this helps as a temp fix until i get some glasses. Thanks for the vid.

  • I did 0:44 in front of my colleagues. I was punched.

  • This video was really helpful. I am on my laptop for 4- 8 hrs a day. I just recently I started getting mild eye pain. I thought it was due to dry eyes ,but then I started having sensitivity to light. My mother told me right away it was from the computer. I had no idea I was harming my eyes. I adjusted the screen brightness and now I take a break every hour. I will definitely use the exercises as well.

  • @Renaa88 Also - you might be sure to wear UV resistant sunglasses outdoors, drink your water, and eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. Get some exercise (at least take a daily walk) Take a look at our prevention recommendations at our naturaleyecare site (click on wellness/prevention protocol) and our recommendations about computer eye strain (click on eye conditions/computer eye strain.)

  • These exercises really do work.. Also eat blue-berries daily.. try it

  • @kenithj76 Yes, and eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. You might go to our naturaleyecare site and take a look at the juicing recipes for specific conditions, paying special attention to the recipe for glaucoma since computer users w/ myopia are at higher risk for that condition. Go to the naturaleyecare site, click on better vision, then click on juicing tips. I'll ask the doc to make a recipe for computer eye strain too.

  • @prairie76 would u happen to know of any herbs/pills that can work as well..going to school, loss of appetite and cant sleep...severe discomfort :( makes me wish i never touched a computer

  • Don't forget to always smile:)

  • thanks, good vid

  • My eye has been pulsating/twitching for the past hour or so -.-

    Maybe this will help

  • @xxbluejay21 Nobody ever claimed it made them better or slowed down deterioration, these exercises are supposed to soothe and relieve the pain caused by eye strain.

  • @92ladderley While they are not proven to directly slow deterioration - they certainly can't hurt since they do improve circulation in the eyes. However there are herbs/supplements which do directly slow deterioration, especially for some conditions, such as cataracts. And there are plenty of lifestyle changes which can make a huge difference. See various conditions on our naturaleyecare site, along with research for each and others' comments on special conditions.

  • @xxbluejay21 What these exercise do is to relax your eye muscles and improve circulation within the eye structure. Most eye disease is aggrevated by/ caused by poor circulation within the macula of the eye. Computer eye strain is now known (2004 cross-sectional study in 9124 Japanese workers) to increase the risk of glaucoma. The risk is greater for those with myopia as well. On our naturaleyecare site, click on computer eye strain, then glaucoma warning.

  • Thanks for this video! Very good!

  • were is my hot dog?

  • Every time I drive 3 hours straight on the highway I just get eye fatigue and my eyes start to get tired and i get sleepy all the sudden plus i get enough sleep, is that a eye strain and why that happen when i drive a long time and how can i prevent that ?

  • @MR69CASUAL We recommend seeing an eye doctor and determining if you need eyeglasses for driving to start. If you are straining your eyes while driving, that could be the cause of your eye fatigue.

  • Comment removed

  • @MR69CASUAL Better to take a break at least every 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stretch, get the circulation going. Eating a lot of carbohydrates (ie, snacking on chips/french fries) while driving will result in sleepiness. Drink plenty of water, fruit juice, eat an apple or other juicy fruit. Get enough sleep before you drive!

  • these helped thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing this, Mark. You provide some very valuable information.

  • Remember to breathe, blink and SMILE;)LMFAOOOOOO..

  • What fingers?

  • everytime i look from the distance to the hotdog i start lolling

  • Eye exercises should be done in moderation as with any exercise. 10-30 minutes per day is a good range, preferably broken down into 2-3 minute segments over the day if you are spending long hours on the computer. If you are suffering from computer eye strain, try taking a break from your computer to do eye exercises at least every hour you are on the computer.

  • would it be bad for your eyes if you do this too often?

  • @VampaFreak No.

  • Thanks for all these videos, they were really helpful! Sometimes my eyes can see slightly further now!

  • hey um can you look far away through glass cause i have a window with those bars so does still have the same effect?

  • i am 13 and im about to get 8.00 for my left eye and 10.25 for my right, what should be the best way to improve my eyesight??? i really want to get rid of glasses for good, or at least get them below a 3.00 range, and suggestions? reply me please.

  • @8swordedninja

    1) Get off your PC

    2) Go outside

    3) Eat carrots

    4) Rinse and repeat!

  • @kristjannuus rinse are repeat?

  • @8swordedninja Hay kid google "the bates method" and read all about it. It really does work. Let me know what you think.

  • what fucking hot dog?

  • @chris96kalonji ur dog's meat

  • MHMM HOT DOGS

  • IMA FIRING MEH LAAAZOR!

  • Simple but actually effective. The older we get, the easier it is to get stuck in limited (and eventually limiting) ruts especially from an automatic, draining 8+ hour work day at the computer.

  • what can be the duration of the "Eye strain" thing? sry 4 my bad english:P

  • well, eye strain would continue as long as you are straining your eyes -- not to be facitious. If you avoid spending long hours on the computer w/out allowing your eyes to relax into distance vision, if you watch a lot of tv, etc - you'll have eye strain. If you don't, you won't

  • LOL fuckin stupid

  • do this help for seeing better?

  • it is not a substitute for regular vision exams

  • Do this make you to see better?

  • Hello!

Recently I developed a PC application that reduces eye strain, it reminds you to take regular breaks. It's a well-thought product, it's better than others, it's developing and it's free.

    Type "EyeLeo" in google.com search.

It won't treat you completely, but will really help you if you care about your eyes.

It's not an advertisment, not a spam, I'm the developer.

  • Can someone please give more input on eye exercising? Is it possible to improve eye sight through these methods, or any at all? Are all of the programs that are availible scams? Any help would be appreciated.

  • how come i dont see the hot dog???

  • did you shave your eyebrows?

  • My favoriate "exercise", is to monitor my Snellen, and wear a +2.5 diopters for all close work, if my refractive STATUS dips below zero diotpers. Always of value to prevent entry into "nearsightedness".

  • Thank you! My eyes have been hurting a lot from using the computer =)

  • lol, i like d hot dog one! xD

  • THANK YOU!!!

Hopefully, this will slow down the process of my vision getting worse.

  • THE HOT DOG FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

    looks 3D ish!!

  • @poopalisk - to the best of our knowledge LCD's don't damage - it's the eyestrain factor. And it seems reasonable that lowering the brightness would only cause you to strain more. The important thing is to take a break from time to time and let your eyes relax and see some far distances.

  • when I'm trying to do the "hot dog" I only see my fingers overlapping or my sight goes from one eye to the other. closest I come close is when it over laps I can see a slight white space around the middle where the two fingers overlap. What am I doing wrong?

  • @Jayfoxpox - the idea is to relax and not 'try' to do it. Hard to say exactly what you are doing and what you are seeing, but it sounds as tho you are doing it correctly. It is sort as though you feel your eyes 'glazing over' as gaze in an unfocused manner.

  • @Jayfoxpox - it sounds as tho you are doing it correctly, but its hard to tell exactly what you are 'seeing.' The idea is to allow your eyes to relax and not try to focus on one finger or the other - thus, you'll see your fingers overlapping.

  • @Jayfoxpox ur fingers overlapping are supposd to look like a hot dog

  • Can this help relieve headaches I get form eye strain?

  • @deviIstudios - yes, especially the palming. But the more important point is that if you are getting headaches from eye strain you are 1) on the computer too long without breaks, 2) probably have incorrect posture, 3) are not getting enough other non-computer exercise 4) are on the computer longer than 5-7 hours a day. BTW, you prob know that on pc's (don't know about macs) you can hit ctrl + or ctrl - to increase/reduce font size to help give your eyes a break.

  • @prairie76 Hmm...I do get the majority of my headaches from my PC and TV but I have been getting them at school after reading for long intervals. I have gotten a headache within minutes of viewing the screen, this problem was not present before.

  • @deviIstudios,

    >> Can this help relieve headaches I get form eye strain?

-- How do you know your headache is directly from eye strain? How are you able to tell the difference?

  • @MikeSPx24bj9 The only time I receive the headaches are after reading for long periods of time, or watching TV or using the computer.

  • you got it

  • it can be hard to tell - but if the headaches are more when you are on the computer/watching TV/ reading/ other close work - then it's likely. Also, depending on your physiology, spicy foods, a lot of cheese, tomatoes, and other heat or "pitta" adding foods can bring on headaches in some people. Fatigue, strain, nervous tension, all can bring on headaches. Take a walk, get lots of exercise, drink plenty of water, eat good food with lots of fresh vegetables. All those things will help

  • will this improve near sighted people

  • @FlamingNinjaco Doing daily eye exercises helps strengthen the ciliary muscles of the eyes which are responsible for flexing our eye lenses enabling us adjust to seeing near and far. So, it is very possible you will see an improvement in your distance vision.

  • "...the second eye exercise is called the hot dog..."

    *bursts out laughing*

    hahahahahahaAHAAHAHAhahahaa,..

  • These work sir. Thank you very much sir. I'm now going to go hung out with my droogs and rape a debocha, thanks again sir.

  • haha hot dog excerise

  • If you can't see the hot dog then hold up a peace sign in front of your face. When looking off into the distance you should see 3 fingers.

  • For the hands over your eyes one, wouldn't breathing hot air on your hands be easier for warming them up?

  • How are the first two eye exercises going to provide "quick relief" for eye strain? It seems like they would potentially be beneficial in the long-term after the muscles of the eye get stronger/more flexible from regularly doing the exercises, but when your eyes are already strained, it doesn't seem like exercising them further would be likely to help matters.

  • how do i prevent sore eyes? i have sore eyes on my first eye and in the second is about to sore, how can i prevent it?

  • im soory but i think it made it worse... lol

  • the hot dog is hard to see. lol.

  • Does this help prevent retinal tears?

  • @Riana718 Doing regular eye exercises helps improve circulation to the eyes and the flow of energy thoughout the eyes, so in this way indirectly it may help reduce the risk of a retinal tears.

  • she will breathe into the palms of her hands and just #breeeaaathe 1:49

  • @Blapstar1988 lol

  • ..... that wasn't a hot dog.

  • nice..

  • nice..

  • love dis video

  • I have a lazy eye, so will doing this exercises help it look straight?

  • @254Wacolion No, but the eye exercises may help your eyes "team" better in terms of helping the muscles of both eyes work together to better focus.

  • @prairie76 Ok, so how often should I do these excersises and how many minutes a day?

  • does these excersise work for getting rid of redness in eyes ?

  • @yayra244 Possibly, depending on why you are getting the redness. If it is in part due to eyestrain, then the eye exercises may help. Allergies and/or dry eyes are often a reason for eye redness. I

  • if the redness is due to eye fatigue - yes, but you need to get more rest and not sit at the computer for long hours. take a break every several hours.

  • I try to do 20 minutes a day... not all at once usually. And, for near stress, on the computer, I try, every 10 minutes, to look away for 10 seconds, at something 10 feet away... Hence, 10-10-10 rule for computer work :)

  • I'm 15 and I am very near-sighted. I go to the eye doctor once every year, and my eyes keep on getting worse so I get stronger glasses :( So far, I have an eyesight of minus 5.50 in my left eye and minus 5.25 in my right eye. Any suggestions on what I can do? And how long do you think it would take my eyes to recover if I did those exercises everyday?

And is the flying hotdog exercise for long-sighted people or for near-sighted as well?

  • YOO I DID HOTDOG FOR THREE MINUTES AND MY EYES IMPROVED!!

  • @rauron9 YOUR BEING SILLY. SO YOU SEE A PLANT? KILL THAT TOO JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T HEAR PLANTS CRY, DOESN'T MEAN YOUR NOT KILLING A LIFE. I DON'T EAT MUCH MEAT AND I FEEL BAD FOR ANIMALS, BUT EATING PLANTS DOESN'T MAKE ME FEEL ANY BETTER

  • I have started doing eye exercises, and my night time vision has improved a lot

  • @RuthSonja how long do u ussualy spend doing them? also do u ever massage around the eyes with ur fingers? please let me know, thanks

  • doc. i'm 13 and i have a power of probaly -6.50 on the left and -6.00 on the right. do you think i even have a chance of improving my vision to -4.00? if so how long will it take? please answer ty

  • hi doc..i have using specticals since 9 years of old..my eyesight power is -3.75 i have eaten my vegetables n fruits but only worked...i m trying some eye exercises n i hope it wiorks...bcoz i want to go 4 air aviation so i really want my eyesight to be better...plz give more types of tips so that my eyesight will improve very very soon plz help me

  • Bah i'm 19 now and i've been having trouble with my eye for like a year now.

Dry eyes, pressure in my eyeball, burning, blurry vision if I look at something a bit further away. I've been to the doctor and he send me to a few eye doctors. They all said it's not from computing and just gave useless eyedrops. It's becoming worst. I sit behind the computer for 10+ hours a day for a few years now. Even if I go on vacation for like 2 weeks, after 2-3 hours behind the screen it all comes back.

  • hi Doc, thanks for the video, really appreciate it as my eyesight has dropped from -2.00 to -2.75 just in 5 month as I've been working no less than 50 hours a week in front of computer. Providing that I am 23 now I this is a horrible result....

  • @rauron9 then why not a carrot :)

  • hi doc. is there any exercises for nystagmus? ..

  • hi doc,

i had a power of -3.75 in righty eye n -3.25 in the left.i was wearing lenses for last 10yrs n specs for another 6 yrs. so i got them laser corrected. but dring the time of the operation i got scared n moved. the doc told me i was not cooperative. but finally evrythign went well but i got some weakness in my right eye. i can see all clear but sometimes my right eye pains n the vision in left eye is 6/6 n right eye is 6/9, now i m eye exercising now.please email me on punit_pt@yahoo.com

  • Have you heard about something that you can put on your computer screen to avoid eye damage or using glasses? if you do. please tell, cus then i'll love to buy one of those:) thanks alot Doc.

    D.

  • @MusikRYTM3 That kind of invention is impossible. Its staring at an object for a long period of time is what damages your eyes, because they become adjusted to looking at close objects and cant see far away ones as well. This is why you can't put something over your computer screen to protect your eyes. You need to get off the computer every hour or so and take a 5 min break, that's the best way to protect your eyes.

  • does these eye exercises restore your vision naturally?

  • hi doc.

i've been on computer atleast 56- 10 hrs a day

since i was 12, i'm now 18 and i start to see blurry and it's hard for me to read a sign far away.

Do you have any suggestions? any exercises that can improve my vision? thanks :)

  • @MusikRYTM3 Yes, first you should get evaluated by an eye doctor as you might need eyeglasses for computer use. Secondly, try taking regular breaks from the computer and do some of the eye exercises demonstrated. They can help keep your eyes healthy and flexible.

  • @prairie76 Thank you very much. I don't want to start wearing glasses so I should start taking breaks and do alot of eye exercise : )

hope it can help to improve my vision.

    Thanks.

  • yes

  • I SEE THE HOT DOG!!

  • @WeiSugarD LOL good job

  • It will stop when you are around 18. When that part of your body stops developing. That is the info i got from my eyedoctor.

  • Im only 11. I have trouble sleeping. My eyes just open. Im almost on computer 9 hours. The half of the day O:

I want too stop but i cant. When i see fasr away its alittle bit blurry,

  • Yeah, I know what you mean about wanting to stop & cant.

Guess you'd better learn a little will power, or you'll be wearing coke-bottle glasses in a couple of years!

You need to get off the computer for 10-15 minutes at least every hour or 2. Walk around - let your eyes have a chance to change focus.

Remember to blink when you're on the computer & some eye

Also, people on the computer a lot are vulnerable to glaucoma - a disease that can leave you blind, which only a doctor can detect.

  • I can stop but for 6 min. I think it started a Week ago i think

  • But im starting to see blurry.

    Wil it become normal eventually?

Because it started a week ago please help

  • don't you think you should have your eyes checked by an eye doctor?

  • @Xbreez978 you must get some time in between those 9 hours to relax your eyes. But dont TRY to relax cause that wont be relaxing ya know.

  • stop using computer too much dude,,, take a shower before u use computer,, wen u wake up.... i got the same problem... my grandmother told me that i should shower 1st before playing... my eyes r blurry too.. from far.. because i didnt listen to my grandma.. it strains my eyes... so be4 u play.. tke a shower...

  • Shower? HOw does that help? The doctor says that i shouldnt wash my face when my eyes are tired it makes your vsion worst and why shower?

  • shower BEFORE YOU PLAY UR COMPUTER.. NOT AFTER U PLAY.. BECAUSE AFTER U PLAY, UR EYE IS STRAIN.. AND IF U PLAY WEN U WAKE UP, UR EYES TEND TO STRAIN QUICKER, THAN IF U SHOWER 1ST.. I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH BODY HEAT, AND RADIATION.. BODY TENDS TO COOL OFF. I NOTICE IT FROM EXPERIENCE... TRUST ME IM 16... UR ONLY 11.. SO TAKE THE ADVICE. B4 UR EYES GETS WORST.. AND IM TELLING THE TRUTH, I DONT WANT UR EYES TO BE BLURRY FROM FAR... I HAVE THE SAME THING.. IM JUST HERE TO HELP..

  • this is true, i have terrible eye strain.. I am farsighted with a slight astigmatism, and I have a slight lazy eye.. i have no idea if all of these are relaated... but i really wish i find away to live my life without books, tvs and computers, they give me pleasure and pain.

  • when i do the magic hot dog exercise, the hot dog appears off center to the left, and sometimes the hot dog doesn't appear as separate, just an extension of my left finger, what could this mean? Is this exercise still okay for me to do?

  • This suggests that one of your eyes is more dominant than the other. If this is the case (you can confirm this with your eye doctor), then continuing to do these eye exercises would be good for you.

  • Could i have eyestrain ? it feels like i stare too much in the same direction and it is harder to move my eyes than before.

  • That could very well be an indication of eye strain. It would be worthwhile getting checked by your eye doctor.

  • I think im crazy! Im 13 and have been nearsighted since i was in 5th grade i put my two finger infront of my face and looked at the tv and it looked way more clearer! And it was blurry ... I did it for like 3 seconds. WOW.

  • great vid...i have a question...should i take my glasses off for these excersises? i have a -2 point something

    thanks for the help!

  • Yes, try doing the eye exercises without your eyeglasses.

  • so will some eye movements be harmful to your eyes? if yes, which

    tnx

  • Comment removed

  • @edd0esntcare the one with "the magic hotdog". If youre not diagnosed with Convergence insufficience (leak off turning your eyes inwards) it could be harmfull. The other 2 should be fine although I do not seem to see the point of those exercises, because they don't seem to serve any real purpose. It's not like going to the gym. It doesn't work like that. Your eyes are organs, not muscles.

  • Actually, the ability adjust your vision near and far relies on the ciliary muscles, which flex the lens of the eyes as needed to see properly. The intra and extraocular eye muscles enable you to move your eyes in different directions. These eye muscles are much like other muscles one exercises at the gym, and can be strengthened accordingly as well.

  • @prairie76 besides,it's not needed to train the extraocular eye muscles if they are working propably like in a normal eye. Only when something is wrong with your accommodation trias(convergence, accommodation, miosis).

You cannot train an presbyopic or someone that has near problems due to a N.4 palsy.Or someone with a tropia/amblyopia.

ps.the crystalline lens is responsible for the ammount of accommodation you have left, cumming e.a.2006 proofed that the ciliary muscles still work in old age

  • @dirkjan321 So you can't make your heart stronger because its a organ? Same with the lungs? I think not...

  • The lungs and heart in fact can certainly be strengthened by regular exercise. Just ask any athlete. The eyes can move and focus because of the muscles in the eyes that enable us to do this. These muscles can be srengthened much like any other muscle of the body.

  • I am not sure what eye movements you are referring to, but if you are following eye exercises as instructed, then they should be helpful in maintaining healthy vision and reducind eye strain.

  • When I was younger I played video games a lot and all the flashing lights would make my pupils get bigger and smaller, snd I think I had small symptoms of those photosensitive seizures, like my eye felt like it was twitching and eye fatigue(blurred vision) with the hazy words. But my right eye kinda see double now, when I bend my head back and look at something theres a blurry image of the same thing above it. like a word on the tv? Only my right eye though? eye lid covers top of pupil? dyk?

  • for people that have questions. I'm in my final year of optometry. The test with the 2 fingers pointing towards each other only helps if you've been diagnosed with a convergence insufficience. Otherwise even this test wouldn't do shit. You can't cure myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia or anything else with this exercise. the other 2 exercises are just bullshit. Also if you're not diagnosed with Conv. Insuff. these tests could only create probs (causing an accommodation spasm).

  • it's not a test. just something that does, in fact, relax your eyes ... in fact, you need to relax, period.

  • My severe headache is gone. Better than aspirin. Thank you.

  • can this cure myopia? or nearsightedness?

  • Doing dialy eye exercises will not "cure" myopia, can can help one maintain healthy vision and even help reduce one's prescription.

  • That mini hot dog looks like a mini penis :D

  • I just learned a little over a week ago that my eyes are out of coordination. This accounts for the disorientation I have been putting up with for months. I was given the eye exercise of holding a pen, with writing on it, with my arm streched out and then bring it in to my eyes until it starts to blur, then pull it out again. 5 min. once a day. How long till I notice some relief? Does anyone know?

  • Often people who do daily eye exercises notice that their eyes feel better even after a week or two of doing the eye exercises.

  • This is amazing...the other day my eyes were feelings terrible after working on a computer in a poorly lit room for the many hours at a time. I came home, used this video, and after 15 minutes I was as good as new. Thank you so much!

  • What happens if you eat the hotdog, ha, good vids

  • Good video, thanks for sharing! It helped my eyes feel better after a long day.

  • I have epiretinal membrane in my right eye according to the Drs. at Johns Hopkins, Wills Eye, and UCSF. I've had it over a year. How can I heal this w/o surgery? I also how have floaters in my left eye that are like bugs and clouds. Same with the right. What can I do to reverse this? I'm sooooo sad all the time. I also work 10+ hours at a PC every day...

  • if it's something that you absolutely don't think you could live with, maybe you should consider a Vitrectomy, the only solution to your concerns. Good luck.

  • How long until I notice a difference if I do these exercises every day.
