I was looking for TRICK DADDY's song THE CHILDREN'S SONG which samples this song and is one of the best rapsongs in later years in my opinion... Never heard the original, but I have now and although it's 10 minutes it doesn't feel like it is at all, this song is a true tear-jerker and it should be better known...

This song made me cry when I did not yet have anything to cry about as a poor 10 year old kid growing up in the projects. I listened to this song over and over and over and cried and cried and cried. Now, today, this song came to mind and I'm crying again. Thank you for posting this song and keeping such a beautiful message alive. I wish I had remembered this song when times got hard. Thank you my brother Wee Gee.
Soul in Poetry at a time when innocence was the culture, it spoke love, peace and happiness. We are a blessed people who lived during the soulful times 50's, 60's & 70's. I love this song, this was my eight - grade graduation song from when i went to Robert A Black on the south side of Chicago in 2009. I will never forget these lyrics because this is truly a inspirational song that helped me get through the hardest times I've ever had to endure. I love Wee Gee !
I heard this song when I was little girl, but none of the radio stations down south knew what I was talking about. Thought it was a great song then and would probably be great now if the right person recorded it again. John Legend this would be something for you to try!!!!!!!!!
This song brings back such great memories. I was a freshman @ Ripon College in Wisconsin and would wait until midnight when the local country station would go off the air and I could pick up WLUM 102.1 in Milwaukee and hope that DJ Steve Hegwood would play it before I went to sleep. All the great times and friends that are connected to this song; I hope JW, Frogman, Pete Wirth, my main girl Therese and the Meno Falls ladies find this track. God Bless Ray S- may you rest in peace. I love all.

I want to thank the person who posted this song. I've been searching for it for years. Very few songs I've heard in my life time has moved me like this one. It is sung with conviction and truth and the lyrics stir the soul to the core. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. God bless you.
WeeGee is a product of the wonderful "Dramatics". He left the group to pursue a solo career but rejoined for the reunion. He was replaced by LJ Reynolds (Larry James Reynolds) from Saginaw, Michigan. LJ added a classic soul stirring touch to the group. They were one of the greatest group of the century, just never got the marketing and promotion that they really deserved. Their music will live on forever because they are excellent!
This is a wonderful song. I remember it most because my cousin was killed when he was 13 years - old back in 1983; my grandfather died the same year. This song was played at my cousins funeral.
What a singing brother! Him and David Ruffin Awseome Vocalist. Does anyone know why Howard left the Dramatics, he had it all ,the voice , showmanship, Brother was a little chunky, but he could really move, he carried it well` The temps should have picked him up after Ruffin was fired from the Temptations. That would have been !! Smokin! He would have kept that Tempt sound in tack for real!!
Remember the time? Roosevelt High School Graduation, June 2, 1980. Classmates, what are your memories? Mine: Byron Jones, class valedictorian addressed the class quoting this song--"Hold On to Your Dreams."
Firsy heard this when I was a junior in college (1979) at a Frat Party. Impacted me like no song ever before or since . . . I can always recall the music and words in my mind. Never heard of Wee Gee Howard before this song; but never forgot him since that time.
Soul in Poetry at a time when innocence was the culture, it spoke love, peace and happiness. We are a blessed people who lived during the soulful times 50's, 60's & 70's. Even though i wasn't evwen thought of when this song was made but I always heard it growing up especially at graduations n now that I'm an adult now I just wanted tom hear this n needed to hear it so thanks u Adagiosoulb4flesh for posting it
If you live Chi-town in the 70s & early 80s at almost every graduation had sung this song. I had to get song imported to me in a CD format. I will forver love this song!!!!!
Thank you so Much, this was my graduation song, when I was in catholic school (grade school) I remember we had to sing this song and It true we have to hold on to our dreams, now this is old school, I started to cry when i heard this, thank so so much for bringing this to my memories, the good one,
@wizardofchicago OMG...I didn't go to catholic school but we had to sing this song for our graduation too. It was our theme song when we graduated from elementary going into junior high school. The sad part is I still remember this song!
i remember listening to this as a child and it still gets to me today, as it did back then. This is an all time favorite of mine but i had never been able to find it on limewire to download and make a copy of it, so glad that i was able to find on youtube. if anyone knows any info on what site i can go to to download, please let me know..
I knew that Wee Gee WAS AN AWESOME SINGER BUT HE REALLY OUT DID HIS SELF WITH THIS SONG! THIS SONG IS AN INSPIRATION TO ME TODAY AS AN ADULT BECAUSE I DO RELATE TO THIS SONG AND I AM STILL HOLDING OWN TO MY DREAMS. FOR AS LONG AS THERE IS LIFE, HEALTH AND STRENGTH AND FAITHFUL DREAMS CAN STILL BE OBTAINED. LOVE IS TRULY STRONGER THAN HATE.
THANKS FOR POSTING (MY MIND KEPT TELLING ME TO GOOGLE WEE GEE, I AM HAPPY THAT I DID.
Haven't heard this since the mid '80's, but it always sits in the back of my mind. Maximum respect for posting this!!! LOVE IS THE MESSAGE....TEACH THE CHILDREN!!!
I can't BELIEVE you found this song! I haven't heard this song ever since I was 5 years old!!!!!!! And I'm 36 now! I remember the skating rink I went to playing this song.
I'm not usually a big fan of these types of songs. For me, they usually feel fake or like they're trying 2 hard to sell some kind of platitude.
However, from the beginning of its opening note, this song is sung with such heartfelt emotion that it feels like WeeGee truly believes what he's singing about.
IMO, this song's delivery is an excellent example of the soul that should be expected from any song that defines itself as rhythm & blues.
@jasscat01 I too have looked for a way to download into my mp3 player. I tried Amazon and Itunes. Amazon says the cd is an import if I order it. So I Just hold my cell phone recorder up to the computer speakers and hit " record ."
Hold on to your dreams.....

Man this song reminds me of running around Miami as a little kid. It was as beautiful then as it is now.

During that time a spirit I call (Rhapsody) filled black people in rhythm & harmony. The spirit gave us the greatest vocalist, lyricist, instrumentalist and music producers since. The spirit of rhapsody is dead. When I hear songs like this one, my heart is full, I smile and my eyes tear for the talented ones we lost.

I'll be honest with you guys,
I'm not usually a big fan of these types of songs.
Just a joy to listen to
