  • this looks sort of like my monitor and same camera if im not mistaken microsoft cinema HD ? ? ? lol cool :-B

  • Mine boots in 7s..

  • @linuxrocksrulers

Mine boots in 5 seconds. ftw

  • @AwsomiSoftChannel Do you have an SSD ? Its weird but my gentoo in a vm boots in less than 6 seconds, while PC boots in 7 seconds.

  • Awesome!

How did you get it to boot that fast?

Mine takes about 15 seconds to boot..

  • Wow, and here I am waiting probably about a minute to get a usable desktop in fedora 14.

  • wow! cool

  • Funny how Windows Users get all excited when their SSD lets them boot in just a little over 30 Seconds.

  • @tjpld Lawl, I don't have a SSD, And i still boot under 30 seconds

  • @schredder12 same here LOL ...its rediculous

  • @tjpld mine boots 20 seconds with a 1tb HDD 7200 RPM. I don't give a damn about this booting in 10 seconds.

  • I wouldn't say that gentoo is impossible for a newbie to install but it does require that you spend some time learning aboutthe system during the install.

  • And I thought 10 seconds from GRUB to my login window was decent..

  • I wish my gentoo booted that quick. Mine is slower than Linux Mint right now. Have you complied most of your stuff as modules?

  • taith2: I wouldn't recommend you to even try to install gentoo if you're not VERY familiar with linux environment. You need to know what you want, without some experience its rather not possible. What about trying Ubuntu first?

  • @LinuxUser82

tried ubuntu, but it was working slow on me in several cases like playing music and video, been trying using totem

but moved back to windows because needed one program only for win

anyway applications was working slow on my AMD 2GHz with 1,5GB ram

  • @taith2 You can run windows in Virtualbox inside GNU/Linux

  • hey is it possible for total noob to install gentoo from scratches?

I mean I can install and configure windows, but whole gentoo installation takes 50+ pages

  • You're absolutely right. At the beginning Gentoo needs a lot of time to configure, but I would say that it needs to be done only once. After that, you got system, which is always up-to-date with the newest packages. I recently switched from Ubuntu and see that the difference is very hudge.. However, today I'm gonna try to improve as much as possible ubuntu speed. Let's see what is possible... ;)

  • nice.. i love gentoo. but its time consuming.. that is why i switched to mint.. gentoo takes alot of time to configure it teh way you like it. compiling all software from scratch.. i said SCREW this and went with mint ;)
