ROCKmaninoff on!! Great piece of music! I'm sure Sergei would approve! And as stated above, definently not a cover of the song, but a neat inspiration of a great piece of music!
If you're not trying to do something different, now and then, you aren't really trying. If you want to discover true genius, find people who are trying to do something different.
If you haven't already found it, you might want to check out "Rock meets ROCKmaninoff" is the same song but with much more emphasis on the piano--you can hear it much more clearly.
@ElArdillaFeroz I actually like this one better because you can hear all the other instruments more clearly. Everyone sounds like they're playing together on a shared piece instead of the band just playing backup to the piano.
It's a great arrangement but the production (or Youtube) killed much of the dynamics ... drums sound like they are played from under a blanket. It could use less dynamics compression
@rayschalch Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They take classical music and turn it into rock music. They've got electric strings and a couple of electric pianos. It's a pretty sweet light show, too. I went to one of their concerts last December. They do a lot of Christmas music, too. I'll message you a link to see a little bit of what they do.
i hoped to hear a note to note cover of this great work of art ...but this is your own interpretation...now i'm learning to play it myself ..the real thing...when i'll feel confident enough i'l post a cover ...nonetheless this is a great tune. but it lacks the sheer power of the original

You make a good point--thanks for bringing that up.

I don't know who is better, Jon Schmidt or Serj Tankian.

@DramedyFart They're both amazing, and I applaud your taste in music.
Still, you're comparing apples to oranges here: While they both write music, the latter is a singer first and the former is a pianist first.

It was a mess, I suspect the YouTube compression had something to do with it.

@Music1Comp Al Pitrelli, former lead guitarist for Megadeth, plays for them now.

@MetalAgainstMetallic which automatically makes them cool. Any mix between metal and classical is cool. When Megadeth is involved, it becomes epic :D

This is nothing like Rachmaninoff. Sounds more like Toccata.
Awesome though.

I'm sorry, it just gets on my nerves when Americans can't seem to write in English. :)
My apologies once again.

I have to say this music feels like that to an epic duel in movie. Even better then John Williams "Duel of the Fates"
