@jchrisbass There are hog hunt contests in Texas. I am sure they do serious damages to agriculture land and I cannot blame farmer/rancher for trying to get rid of them. However, Texas is NOT overrun with them. I have a farm butting up against Sam Houston National Forest and have been anxiously waiting to see some hogs showing up. I want them for food. They are better tasting than domestic pork.

Going rate is $100 a day to hunt hog and there is no guarantee you will see one....:) but it is guaranteed you'd be out of $100 for each day you hunt.
I do not believe in using dogs to hunt. I do not believe in bow hunting either for same reason. It is too inhumane and too bloody. However, unlike you, I do not call names as you do. That is the communication mean for people with low intelligence.
I shoot hogs strictly for meat and therefore I strictly shoot them in the head to make a clean and instant death with minimal pain. I do not believe in killing for trophy for same reason.

Thanks for your amateurish advice. Thus far of the three dozen hogs I've bagged by head shot, it has been one shot one kill. By the way, I do not use large caliber either....strictly .223 handloads.

@schismit yer mate , cook real slow and covered , tin foil or a covered dish etc , add fat or lard , oil when cooking to keep it from drying out as wild pork doesnt have a very much fat , u can marinate or make a rub or a marinate to if yah like , just cooked one 2day for about 9 hours on low hmm was on 100 deg C , it was falling off the bone and taste amazing .

Reason #1 most of the time the hog is not gonna stand still even if the dogs have caught it and if you shoot theres a good chance you will hit the dog. Reason #2 the first shot doesnt always kill the hog. what is already a dangerous animal becomes even more so when wounded. increasing the chance of you and the dogs getting hurt or killed

Wild pigs are extremely destructive, killing many plants and ruining ground with their wallows.. they cause an awful amount of damage.. @pac6010 you need "A" dog to find your prey and the idea with this "traditional" boar hunting if you watch the video is to have the dogs maul the pig and hold it down so that "hunter" man can come there and knife him in relative safety.
It's a dirty way of hunting, breeds overly aggressive dogs and puts them in harms way, they aren't even hunters the animal does all the work and theres zero skill involved other than basic tracking.

@smeghead666 dog + gun does not always equal a good hunt especially when hunting hogs. Reason #1 most of the time the hog is not gonna stand still even if the dogs have caught it and if you shoot theres a good chance you will hit the dog. Reason #2 the first shot doesnt always kill the hog. what is already a dangerous animal becomes even more so when wounded. increasing the chance of you and the dogs getting hurt or killed

Why do you need a dog to hold the hog still for you, can you not hit a moving target, nor stalk your quarry effectively so it's not startled?
If you're using an appropriate rifle and shooting correctly you shouldn't need several shots, regardless of the size of the animal.
Hence why it's a sissy way you go about things with the dogs doing all the work

@smeghead666 they are not gundogs. the bay dogs job is to find and keep the hog bayed until the i get there.they cant keep the hog bayed if theyre by my side. when we get there the catch dog is let go and his job is to help control the hog while i reach and grab it by the legs. when i have the hog the catch dog is given the command to releasethen i either tie the hog up or kill it with a knife to the heart. its not a sissy way to hunt. takes guts to reach and grab a 300 lb boar

@smeghead666 when a animal is moving it increases the chance of making a quick ethical kill also hogs are mostly active at night they like to hide in thick cover during the day making it extremely dangerous to try and stalk them thats why we use the dogs. yes i do shoot them with a rifle on the rare occasion they come past me in legal shooting light while i am deer hunting but the risk of hitting one of my dogs is too great while i am hunting with them
