This song is completely about cocaine. Charlie is a slang name used for cocaine. It wakes you up (charlie's waking me), on the comedown you get withdrawals (charlie's shaking me), and while you're high you feel invincible; on top of the world (charlie's making me smile). It also has a potent scent which is described by Anthony saying he picks up the scent and runs like hell. It is about nothing other than blow. Notice how "Snow" and "Charlie" are right next to each other on the album as well? ;)

just read his book scar tissue. i got it and i hate books...greatest book ever. he did almost ever drug known to man. he was once diagnoused with hepatitus but somehow it left him. he was high 24/7 and started smoking in high school. real wreck back in the 80's. but he's been clean since 2000.
