  • What the fuck Man

  • Nice dead stick, in a sticky situation. And I LOVE that "I can't believe we're ALIVE" laughing at the end!

  • @microdon2 Hello, thank you for your email, I have since past my Private Pilots Licence both in Flexed wing and fixed wing and have over 100 hours flying time.

I I was a passenger at that time and did not know antything about flying, I still laugh at the video now, the main thing, we both walked away to tell the tale. Go steady, Steve.

  • well done ! kept your head !

  • dangerous

  • Aren't you trained if you get an engine failure after take off not to turn back as the steep turn could stall the a/c but to land in an adjacent field? Or is this just for group A a/c?

  • @TheMattyccc

Hi Mattyccc, yes you are correct with your comment.

When the Engine failed we were down wind in the circuit early and lower than normal, the field was not being used at the time.

If you look closely the there is a short piece of grass strip 90 deg to the main airfield which in hindsight this would of been the better option converting height into speed and flaring out. Since then I have got my Pilot license for Flex wing Microlight, go steady.

  • @flyman912 Well I guess in the end all that matters is you landed safely

  • @TheMattyccc He did a Question Mark Turn from 300', not an Impossible Turn I teach that maneuver on many planes, if you know it you can do it. If don't know crash in front. But many don't know or want to practice, then when have to do it make a mistake and crash. The maneuver is a life saver if you know it, but if you are a clod or coward, push nose over and crash in front even if there's a Turnback possible. After you crash and see you could have make this QMT you will feel foolish for not do.

  • Perfect!!

  • @andyshangar

Cheers andyshanger, sorry for the delay in my reply, go steady.

  • what exactly happened to the engine? isn't it a 4-stroke?

  • @ringgo1star

H there, sorry for the delay in my reply I have been away. Your question, the Microlight is a Rotax 503 Two stroke, the engine failed due to the wrong oil mixture ratio and seized on one cylinder, luckily we were still in the circuit and were able to land. Like your site will have a look around during the week, go steady, flyman912.

  • @flyman912

Oh i see. I figured since you had 912 in your name it was a rotax 912. My bad. I was having a hard time understanding why a 4 stroke rotax would have an engine failure. Not impossible i suppose, but very unlikely i'd say. My misunderstanding. Thanks for the reply and hope you get the motor back to working.

  • Nice job, man!

  • sphincter quivering stuff

  • Most engine failures on aircraft piston engines are Cylinder Failures due to the air cooled fluctuations and bad engine management. The ones I had were Flight School airplanes where the other CFI's where scaring the students from leaning the mixture unless over 5,000' agl. Many CFI's are scared of that red knob to the point of soot cylinders. Most aircraft cannot climb with out cylinder out.

6,400 hours in 20 years, four engine failures due to other "pilots" abusing engines.

  • Nice video as a CFI I had to do two of those Question Mark Turn from initial climb. Cherokee 140 and Cessna 150.

  • whoa intense!! nice flying great vid

  • Hello HAIONSTRESS,

thank for your recent email, pleased you like the vid, I just hope there is not a sequal, all the best for 2010, flyman.

  • nice landing mate! its times like that u realise when a pilots good or not

  • great video, im nearly qualified but started having engine trouble while going through dangerouse attitudes. scary but thats why we love it. safe flying

  • Hi grahamc77,

thank you for your email, are you training at the mo?

  • wow ! you can "taste" the adrenalin and relief within the laughing at the end.... well done ! (Quantum Pilot)

  • Hello Stevierobbo007, many thanks for your comment on the engine failure in the flex wing.

The engine is a Rotax503 and it seized on one cylinder, we put it down too wrong mixture, not enough oil, school boy error, go steady, flymanr1.

  • thats about 20 mins per machine, are you a test pilot ?

  • bussrot, many thanks for your comment on the Engine failure, sorry for the delay in my reply to you.

I was the passenger, since then I have become a pilot and fly both the Flex wing, and fixed wing, keep up with your drumming, flymanr1.

  • Hi there, thank for your email, the numbers are done in crushed lime stone? Had a look at your vid on the light air craft landing, looks very scenic out there, do you get much rota?

  • A cat has 9 lives, you just live 2.

    7 to go?

    5 stars

  • Nice one,but did you really think it wouldn,t glide? After all it is an over grown Hang Glider. Now that you know you and it can do it then maybe Prectice practice pratice. Fly safe Scott Newman HG ultralight pilot.

  • Hello Scott, thank you for your comment on Microlighting, yes they do glide as you say, but at the time what goes through your mind is for how long, can I make the air field, shall I make that turn?? But as you see we made all the right decisions and got to the air field. I see you do Hang Gliding, I have done a bit my-self really miss it, go steady Scott, bye for now Steve.

  • That looks like so much fun! I really want to get certified to fly ultralights sometime soon.

    Cheers, and fly safe.

    Sky

  • Hi Sky thank you for your email, yes is is fun but it does has its moments. There is an old saying, you always have an option to take off but!! You dont on landing. Go Steady, flyman.

  • Hello SkyWayMan, sorry for my delay in replying to you, thank you for your comment.

Hope your dream becomes reality, its always nice to hear from some one, go steady Happy New Year, Steve.

  • lost engine downwind popham p1 in mates trike did not make airfield £120 damage front strut and seat frame used fence as arrester wire.

    great days.

  • a couple of beers more like a fifth and a loto ticket nice job the excitement at the end of surviving is great

  • Hi Kevin, thank you for your comments on the video, I'm pleased you liked it, yes we did enjoy a couple of beers later that day.

I was the passenger at that time, but since got my private Pilots License and now fly my-self, you go steady Kev, Steve.

  • Been there, Done that. Lost engine at 550 ft agl on climbout. Turned base thinking that I could directly land midfield but, there were parachuters coming down so, I had to FLY the trike. Me?..I landed in a soybean field. It was like landing on a carrier deck. Those beans stopped me in 25 feet without tipping me over. No damage to myself or the Trike. Problem was a clogged fuel filter from some sludge in he fuel tank. Live and Learn...
