And tough guys--laugh all you want at martial arts, but in an altercation it helps to be tough, fast, precise and extremely disciplined. Different arts and styles emphasize different principles more than others. Shaolin demands all of them. If you underestimate your opponent, it's your loss.

i guess it's hard to tell because that is what i have been trying to find out too, in true shaolin tradition from what i heard, public display of feat especially leaving their monastery for permances isnt allowed unless u already severed ur ties, my guess is that the few that have been performing and not true shaolin but, modernized ones who form their own shaolin school, and follow the tradition of shaolin way of life only that they are in for the art of it.

For all of those who didn't notice, from 10:50 to 14:14 in the video, they do a short biography on Jet Li's Martial Arts history. They refer to him by his true Chinese name Li Jin Jie. They show him from the age of 8 to 19. He's often acompanied by other young students but he's the smallest one for recognizing purposes. Nice to see that about one of my favorite Kung Fu film actors.

1. shaolind dont train wushu, wushu is a an art of form or a modernized version of martial arts form, used mainly for competitive reasons, and it's training are certainly watered down a hell lot compared to shaolin, and jet li has been a wushu practitioner all his life, never a shaolin at any time in his life, just accept the facts, it doesnt mean he can't fight, but he's just never shaolin, end of story.

Kalari is the source of Kung Fu and Karate (and more martial arts). When Bodhidharma came to China to teach Mahayana Buddhism in the temple of Shaolin Szu he also taught Kalari to keep his students fit - now we know that as Shaolin Kung Fu (Kung Fu means 'hard work'). Shaolin Kung Fu was called Shorin-Ji Kempo in Japan and that later transformed into Karate.

nah, it came with the buddhist monks who used it to defend themselves as they traveled to china. Then Bodhi Dharma came to china and helped found the shaolin temple and taught them more systematically. The simplified version of this is wu shu which only takes 11 years to master.
