thanks. this is great.. The only bad thing is sometimes it will also get rid of some of the music. meaning it sometimes gets rid of guitar solos or other instruments as well. but for the most part its pretty decent.
Tried this and it worked as stated, however you will be hard pressed to find any program that can actually remove the vocals unless they are on separate tracks. One flaw in this video is that it is a little tricky where you are going when you do the effects for inverting the audio. It looks like you are selecting effects on the bottom track and you can't see that you are going to the top of the screen to select effects and invert. Audacity will not save files as MP3, but will save as WAV.
@67901j3 Actually 67901j3, I don't think you should have to do 'research' to get a program to do what you need it to do. I downloaded this program again, just before making this post. There are too options 'export as wav' and 'export as mp3'. If you try to do the mp3, you get a message that says you must download another file to do this. There are too many programs out there that 'just do it', without research. Not sure where your Audacity program came from, but this one requires more stuff
@gemsroadwarrior What you are describing is a perfect world. There are plenty of people all around the world that do research endlessly, its progressive and leads to problems being solved. A simple google search of MP3 and Audacity would have yielded enough information for you to get Audacity to export in MP3.
You also used unconditional language. "Will not" infers no other options. Audacity, with the LAME plug-in does allow exporting in a variety of formats, including MP3.
@67901j3 As a big fan of Apple/Mac systems, I am used to a perfect world. However, sometimes I choose to venture into the PC world to remind me of how awesome Apple products are. It's a free country and you can research downloads that make things you've already downloaded work or do what you want them to do. I research to find things that do everything I want, without additional research. My point was that Audacity doesn't just do these things. I use it, but I also use garage band and more.
to get the correct file, make sure you go to File~Export; do not save it or else you can only open it in the program...and yes, if the song sounds a bit weird, that does happen...depends solely on how the song was recorded
Hey man. i have tried out this method. but for some reason i can still hear the echo of the lyrics. i can still hear them a little so there not completely taken out. i notice that in your video you dont hear them at all. so if you could get back to me and help me out that be great! i dont know too much about this so any help or tips would be awsome! thank you!
@djDeago If the vocal was sent to a bus reverb/delay and that delay was panned to one side, then this method probably won't completely remove the vocal echo. This method is effective for removing sounds that are panned center in the track and translate well to mono. If you have double-tracked vocals, for example, panned to the left and right, this might not work very well.
hey when i inverted it it only partially removed the vocals? like theyre quieter and a little muddled
but not completely gone

@gemsroadwarrior You can export files from audacity in almost any audio format... do your research buddy.
From wikipedia: Importing and exporting of WAV, AIFF, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and all file formats supported by libsndfile library.

Can you isolate vocals instead? In other words, remove the music? And will Garageband remove the music?

Can't wait to try this out tonight. Since getting GB, I've shunned Audacity, but maybe I need to give it another look.
