I was pretty sure that once you were in the "sitting" position, you push back/up, no up. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose of the sitting position, does it not? This is also coming from someone who has never done a back handspring...
Oh dear oh dear. I'm a Level 3 British Gymnastics coach. I see error after error when I pause this during her demonstration at the end.
1) Her knees are past her toes. Knees should be BEHIND the toes to enable you to push back, not up
2) Because of above, she's much too high when she hits her hands and already over he shape she should be in at this point. Keep doing this and you'll wreck your wrist and elbow joints.
@FreeRunGirl91 DO NOT USE THE VIDEO TO LEARN FROM PLEASE!! Go and get yourself into a gymnastics class, open gymnastics class, or cheerleading tumbling class.
KIDS DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! If you want to learn, get into gymnastics, tumbling, or cheerleading and have a professional TEACH/SPOT you! IF YOU TRY THIS BY YOURSELF YOU WILL GET INJURED!
fairly bad tutorial. very vague description, didn't explain how to actually perform one with good form. and her legs were bent when she demonstrated one. definitely, go elsewhere if you want a proper tutorial.
"and that is how you undercut.." I was definitely not taught this way, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, but my coaches have years of experience.
oh mah gosh this is horrible for teaching someone how to do a backhandspring ! viewers i'm only 14 and i' working on a full and this is not the proper way tah do a backhandspring learn from someone that actually feels confident talking about tumbling rather than this lady !
Sucky! You do that and you'll hurt yourself - if you sit the way she's showing you'll end up going straight up and fall back down on your head - it's really hard. You need to sit back like you're sitting in a chair - you won't be able to hold that position without some form of support 'cause you'll fall backwards. And that's just the beginning.
If you want to actually learn a backhandspring, learn from someone who knows how to teach it in a safe environment.
i had donee gymnastics for 5 years..!.! i gave up because i could't do jump back.i was very scared and my coatch didn't help me..and noww it seems so easy..wish i hadn't given up..
She's good but she needs to push more from her shoulders. She should land with her hands mid air, not 2 inches above the floor. People, if you want to learn how to do a REAL back handspring, check out MayBaby tumbler, her video is alot better!
I can't believe all of these people are trying to teach back handsprings over Youtube. it's extremely dangerous for people to try this for their first time on their own as it can cause spinal injuries. If you would like to learn how to do a back handspring, reasearch a gymnastics gym near you. Believe me, you will be safer.
Listen... I did gymnastics/tumbling- and this is NOT the way to do it, it isn't SIT, it's lean, sit throw! I swear some people think they know what they're talkin' about. I'm just saying don't listen to her- she's ALL WRONG!
@BrandiCrook thank you...I HATE when people do tutorials on youtube, when they go back to their REAL teacher, the teacher has to correct everything the tutorial taught them wrong....
i was in gymanstics for 5 years and if i were you i would also say in this video that you have to keep your hands turned in not out because you can break your arms really easily.. just saying.
ew. tighten up your core and your legs. you're very loose. spring from your legs more and lean back when you prepare. PUSH off your shoulders and wrists more. a good ackhandspring should be light and bouncy, this one was heavy and had no spring. you could not tumble out of this. search a gymnastics tutorial if you want a better lesson.
@RainbowSkittles1242 yeah looks awful but that's how cheerleaders do it, HUGE injuries waiting to happen. If they want to learn to tumble properly, take a class at a gym so you don't get into bad habits.
@peterru69 (sorry if i got the name wrong) and thank youuuu, i can do a back flip and a back handspring on a trampoline but i'm afraid to try them on the ground.
@mel2thegibson undercutting is when you like dont push back when you go, you jump straight up and youre real arched. youre supposed to be in a rainbow position. u shouldnt be able to hold it in yur bridge. you should loo at gymnastics vids to learn how to do it correctly
@CheerUrHeartOut1234 A nice foam matress can help in the start. And get a spotter.. someone to spot you when you're first starting out. Personally, I think learning to backflip first is the way forward. but the other way around would work aswel, I guess.
A spotter is someone to take you through the jump. It's important that you don't throw yourself into backhand springs without having someone there.
this is all wrong according to the place i go to. at this place, your can not swing your arms, you don't shrug ur shoulders and you most definetly dont land looking at the ground because how can you add more to that while looking at the ground. it aint going any where
This woman is insane! Most cheerleaders in high school can't do tumbling like her, and her jumps are AWESOME. Her moves are so sharp, and she looks like she's happy! Lucky woman :)
@CiaraJune11 the big part is getting over the fear. I suggest going to a cheer gym and enrolling in a tumbling coach, they help you get over the fear.
@fanoonmileyzbieber1 it just takes a lot of mental work. Physically it is easy to prepare for. Do a lot of handstands, handstand push ups, bridges/back bends, etc. and stretch before hand. the hard part is the mental. you just have to remember to keep your arms locked.
@MegaPrincesskim the main reason a lot of people mess up on their bhs or cant land after going over is because they "freak out". they are too scared and are overthinking what they have to do. Cheerleading requires a lot of mental strength. Back handsprings are somewhat physically challenging, but the hardest part is not being scared to do it.
gods sake, i physically cannot do stuff like this, i prepare and then i scare myself and chicken outof it! the mind is willing but the body is not able!
a double full is advanced not a bhs, and there were many things wrong with that bhs,1. dnt drop ur chest in the begining 2. dont bend ur arms 3. pop through ur sholders not elbows 4. land on ur toes so u can rebound, dn land flat footed, there were many other things wrong 2
uh, i would't call a backhandspring advanced, i would call a full, arabian, or a double advanced. haha and wow, she's kinda old to be doing that kind of stuff, wow. xD
@TheIAmSoEpic back handsprings are considered the basic advanced tumbling move.. its officially recognized as advanced by cheerleading judges universally throughout the world.
is there any other type of building blocks going in to this like being good at normal back rolls or is it just confronting your fear of landing on the head and breaking your neck.
@gymnasticsGIRL368 practice doing back walkovers first. then slowly start doing them faster, and faster, until you're comfortable going backwards. then all you do is jump and keep your legs together.
@gymnasticsGIRL368 Get a spot or two to help you jump back, then after wards use one . and the when you feel like your ready just go for it. remeber to sit, jump and arch your back, and watch your hands. :) goood jobb !
@gymnasticsGIRL368 i had the same problem! i was scared to jump back so i used like wedge roller thing and jumped back onto and did it for a little till a became okay with going back
@gymnasticsGIRL368 the first time i tried by myself i landed flat, and then the second time on my face, Doesn't hurt as bad as I thought! Don't knock it till you try it.
@gymnasticsGIRL368 what i did is i started on a trampoline- start with a back walkover, and kind of made it into a back handsrping eventually, and soon I did a back handspring without even realizing it :D
one step away from grannies doing gymnastics. i hope you feel good 4 that! by the way that was the sloppiest back hand spring that i have ever seen!! lol maybe you should just stick to young flexible girls. don't even try to use a guy 4 this stuff. that is- unless they're gay of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Silly cheerleaders! You can't lean your chest forward. Then you end up undercutting and so your whole pass is screwed. No wonder you guys can't tumble for your lives. Learn some technique, dear @raclip02
and don't worry, @crystilwyn, they taught you right
@rachelmitchell90 She did it right, pretty good for an old lady, it was just the floor type that made that sound. Thats pretty much the same advice my tumbling coach gives me.
I took tumbling over the summer and they told us to NEVER keep your chest over your feet or you'd never go anywhere...you're supposed to lean back...if you don't you're going to land on your head...
She said to keep your chest in line with your toes and your feet. Doing so will give you the maximum power. When all you have is a back handspring, it really doesn't matter how you throw it. But when you're an advanced tumbler like me who's trying to throw another back handspring and a full afterwards, you gotta do things right.
i can do better then that and btw when your jumping back dont swing your arms back keep then straight in front of you bcz they tend to cave more but its safer and easier for me and that is how i was taught they told me never to do that
Her chest should be over her toes it should be up so you dont have to waste your energy moving extra... and doesnt she look a little old to be doing shit like this hahaha
and the girls that are cat fighting on youtube if you want to see cheerleading at its finest look at allstars not high school not pop warner not middle school ALL-STARS
ok I have cheered for many years and I still am, and that is a bad way to teach a bhs. its ok, but you need to teach them to use there hips not there feet. if they pull there feet over they are going to under cut. If you need me to go to your gym and teach you a few things I will. and btw can you do stunts in that room the highest point in that room is 10 feet.
Who ever has something to say about competitive cheerleading can get their butts off the couch and get into the gym and do all the insane stuff that we have to do!!
as my coach would say, REBOUND.

@gymnasticsGIRL368 the first time i tried by myself i landed flat, and then the second time on my face, Doesn't hurt as bad as I thought! Don't knock it till you try it.
swaggerofaprincess13 8 months ago 2
@gymnasticsGIRL368 what i did is i started on a trampoline- start with a back walkover, and kind of made it into a back handsrping eventually, and soon I did a back handspring without even realizing it :D
hannernana 7 months ago
one step away from grannies doing gymnastics. i hope you feel good 4 that! by the way that was the sloppiest back hand spring that i have ever seen!! lol maybe you should just stick to young flexible girls. don't even try to use a guy 4 this stuff. that is- unless they're gay of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lmfao cheerleaders know nothing about real gymnastics.
NikkiStar101 1 year ago
@NikkiStar101 shut up. i cheer. & gymnastics is NOTHING close 2 cheerleading...
aKaLiN3 1 year ago
@aKaLiN3 yeah it isnt. cheer is wannabe, gymnastics is better. not like cheerleading is in the olympics. :l
NikkiStar101 1 year ago
@NikkiStar101 But you don't see a school gymnastic team. Maybe that's the reason a lot of people do cheer instead of gymnastics.

Silly cheerleaders! You can't lean your chest forward. Then you end up undercutting and so your whole pass is screwed. No wonder you guys can't tumble for your lives. Learn some technique, dear @raclip02
and don't worry, @crystilwyn, they taught you right
gymmonkey08 1 year ago

because my 32 year old girl coach can still do a round off BHS, standing BHS, and a back tuck on a tumble track(:

you didnt even do it properly !!!!! all i heard was thump thump :@ learn to do things properly before giving people advice
rachelmitchell90 1 year ago
@rachelmitchell90 She did it right, pretty good for an old lady, it was just the floor type that made that sound. Thats pretty much the same advice my tumbling coach gives me.
MissNonsenseTalk 1 year ago
I took tumbling over the summer and they told us to NEVER keep your chest over your feet or you'd never go anywhere...you're supposed to lean back...if you don't you're going to land on your head...
Crystilwyn 1 year ago 35
@Crystilwyn No.
She said to keep your chest in line with your toes and your feet. Doing so will give you the maximum power. When all you have is a back handspring, it really doesn't matter how you throw it. But when you're an advanced tumbler like me who's trying to throw another back handspring and a full afterwards, you gotta do things right.
Keep working hard, kiddo. ;)

i can do better then that and btw when your jumping back dont swing your arms back keep then straight in front of you bcz they tend to cave more but its safer and easier for me and that is how i was taught they told me never to do that

and the girls that are cat fighting on youtube if you want to see cheerleading at its finest look at allstars not high school not pop warner not middle school ALL-STARS
look at top gun (worlds 07) I was there!!!
mrvalleycheer 1 year ago
ok I have cheered for many years and I still am, and that is a bad way to teach a bhs. its ok, but you need to teach them to use there hips not there feet. if they pull there feet over they are going to under cut. If you need me to go to your gym and teach you a few things I will. and btw can you do stunts in that room the highest point in that room is 10 feet.
