Appalling the nays because this doesn't follow a European flavor. If u really think about it, look at the ancient churches and find me the middle-eastern and african "feel" in Euro-centric catholic churches today! Compare urselves to the Coptic Church, unchanged thru the centuries. Get over ur racism...it is sin! Jesus came for all men...u don't have to look, act and think like a European to know the Messiah. Loved this vid, I live right opposite this church, and it really is awesome. The oldest African American Catholic church in the country, the tombe of the unkown slave, and the subject of numerous documentaries since Katrina (Shake the devil out). I'm not religious, but love all the Jazz funerals (New Orleans puts the 'fun' in funeral) and second lines that start form here, and the Mardi Gras Indians that gather in cosume outside.

Oh yes, it is. It is both catholic AND a Catholic Church. One of the most engaging and spiritually uplifting celebration of the Eucharist I have ever been to. My prayers are with the people of St. Augustine and their pastor, Fr. Quentin Moody.

Vatican 2 allows for people to celebrate mass in ways that are unique to the people in the congregation. Black Catholics like myself do not have a problem with a mass of this type. Apparently, you do .That is so sad for you.

I'm not African-American and I find it offensive. This is culturally enriching...and it isn't against the norms set forth by the Church.

It's much different compared to the saccharine Masses of the feel-good 70's...and their ilk. So step back.
