Like I said before, Toad looked out for Mario and Peach. Even Sam Hart says "You be my princess," [Mario speaking] meaning he wants Peach to be his woman "and I'll be your toad," which means that he wants to look out for the princess, protect her, etc.

If anyone can prove me wrong then go ahead.

@TheLighterDark i think it is about Peach and Toad. Primarily because Toad works for Peach and protects her from danger. Sure we all know about Mario and Peach's long told love story but still Toad has always been watching the Princess's back. Though weak as he is, Mario ends up being the hero in the main stories, but this is Mario Kart. Not Super Mario Bros [1,2,3, land, DK, etc] so i don't see why not there be a possible "love relationship" between Toad and Princess. Even if it is one way.
