  • RIP Steve. I miss ya buddy.

  • I would do that but I heard that u lose *muscle first* so .........can anyone tell me if thats true. Plus if you dont have enough calories I heard your body goes into *starvation mode and you store calories*.....someone explain this to me how this will work .thx

  • Use this calorie counter to find out how many calories you burn every day. Knowing this value will tell you how many calories you should in order to maintain weight, or how many calories you need to lose weight.

To use this calculator, enter the values in the fields below and you will get the results. calotor.com

  • you like the guy from couples retreat

  • seems like not enough people understand the concept of just eating less!

  • just awesome

  • hey hey! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a search on google)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker lost crazy amounts of weight with it.

  • Hey steve if my BMR is about 2000 calories a day and I only eat maybe 1100 or maybe 1200 calories a day without excercise...will I still lose weight ?? or will my body think its going into starvation mode ?? will my body still use stored body fat as energy source ??

  • @SubZeroSkyLine you will gain weight, that 1100 calories will be turned into fat or stored energy without excercise and since you eat that everyday it will add on and on the key is to burn the calories you eat and then tap into the excess calories witch is the stored energy so no your body will not lose weight you will gain weight and no you body will not think your going into starvation mode and no your body will not use the stored fat it will use the calories you ate that day.

  • You can

  • Hey Steve what about caffeine - does this stimulant help weight loss/fat loss?

  • @karchun9860 YES

  • and what if i take some L-CARINITINE does that helps ?

  • Also you mention calorie deficit. Again this a currently held notion which again is incorrect science refuted by research. The notion that obesity is caused sedentary behavior and overeating is false and proven so again by the research. I point you towards any lecture by Gary Taubes showing the research of physiologists and biochemistry phds in the 40,50s. The two variables i mention are merely as a result of the deregulation of fat accumulation. I suggest you read the science behind it.

  • At 1min you say "there is nothing in the body you can eat etc which causes fat loss" Incorrect. The hormone insulin and dietary carbohydrates are the drivers of fat accumulation and appetite which in turns drives overeating and more fat accumulation . Eliminating carbs means1st lowering insulin allowing fat to escape from the fat cells (insulin in blood prevents fat metabolism) 2nd No carbs means no glycerol 3 phosphate which makes triglycerides in the fat cells.

I suggest you read Gary Taubes

  • @donal2777 I have also read abd studied a lot of material including Mr. Taubes's works. Really, if you can stay on an Atkins based diet and actually feel great and energized all day long that would be strange to me. I did go that route and I felt really horrible.

I have to add that I am about 10% body fat and really fit so I am not just another overweight guy trying every new fad. I believe minimizing your carb intake too much is actually detrimental to your overall well being.

  • must be why he has a big gut.. People don't listen to someone who isnt a product of the product..... . .

  • @Drumerpunk1 knowing the science behind losing fat doesn't make it any easier to stop eating delicious food, nor does it make exercising any easier....

  • Useful information good job! :)

  • great job you is the truth man im gonna tell oprah about you

  • @MultiMoretolove if you choose to ask a random internet so called expert for advice, you arent motivated to loose any weight.Theres a vast amount of free evidence based info out their, after that its just self dicipline and time management. You could also see a qualified personal trainer for a consultation and a dietician(not a nutritional counsellor)

  • Yes but you dont speak about good an bad calories. People need to know the difference between good and bad calories. Most foods raise the bad calories and drop the good ones and that is very important in health. This video missed out on a huge chunk.

  • @TrueGreatness73 Good vs bad calories is irrelevant when it comes to weight loss. LESS calories is the key.

  • Is it true that it's possible to burn fat WHILE gaining muscle? I've heard two sides of this from people who claim they're professional, but you seem to know what you're talking about. Although I suppose the cardio will buff up your legs a bit.

  • if i eat abou 200 grams of honey per day it mean about 600 calories does it count beacuse it weights only 0.2 kilos i mean for example 200 grams of honey = 700 calories if i am going to gain weight i am going to gain 0.2 kilos BUT 1 kilo of yogurt is less calories than honey but it weights 1 kilo>>>if i am going to run the time to burn 500 calories i wont have burnt up all the honey so will i have burned up all the yogurt if it is 500 calories?

  • @nikospneuma1 sure. but if you want to lose weight fast just eat under 1200 kcal and do just a little bit of cardio training. just make sure that under the 1200 kcal are some vegetables and fruit and you can really leave like 200 kcal of that to some chocolate if you want to :) i'm sure you'll be alright.

  • is it real that if u eat 2.000 calories u wont gain weight?i am 15 years old and i eat 2 times a day i eat a proper meal(WHAT EVER MY DAD COOKS) IN THE EVeNING & for night eat toast with honey and dried grapes!but if i eat more in the night i gain weight!i am 63 kilos and 175 height!i want eat more but i gain weight when i eat more!also i do the mistake of eating very much the evenig but very much beacuse i get sick and i throw upwhen i throw up does my metabolism stops for the rest of the day

  • @nikospneuma1 oh geez an aduld male needs like 2000 calories... you don't! if you want to eat more, you'll have to do more sports.

i'm very small and i don't do any sports so i have to stick to 1200 calories.

  • I bet it was a message to that ridiculous guy who says all kind of non sense about fat burning foods on youtube..( Foods That Burn Fat For Six Pack Abs

VinceDelMonte) Yeah, like the new research today I have read.. eat chili, it will burn fat, dont need to exercise... pff. I think that is 1 reason we have so many fat people, cos they listen to these nonsense like vince del monte and similar instead listening to the truth here at my man Steve's. Ha.

  • That was very well explained on your part. Alot of that makes sense, but if your mind is always focused upon other issues then naturally people will take the "Don't eat' roube. Which makes you even weaker in a span of a week with lack of nurishment. NOOOO sir lol lol it's about how you use the fat storage (AKA carbohydrate build up) that aloows your metabolic rate to increase. Thereby, burning more calories through exercise essentially!

  • i guess i got lotsa FUEL, lol jk

  • i've heard that fish also helps to lose weight because it has a low amount of calories. is this true?

  • @pheromonekid Yes!

  • COMMENT PART 1

I could write a long paper on this topic if I had the space. As long as I dont, Ill try to summarize my point, and chose only one of the foods that is linked to weight loss. I am a pre-med Biology major, and I have been interested in this topic for a while. I am going to talk about the milk. The dairy industry has been advertising its products claiming that drinking low fat milk helps in losing weight. But is that true?

  • @laylaindy ??? Your comments didn't prove or conclude anything.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV You have a very interesting, professional, and especially elaborate way of supporting your own point of view :-)) And you also don't play fair, because you don't let PART 3 and PART 6 of my comment be posted as well, and this way it's hard for my comment to prove anything, because that's how you actually alter my comment. But it's ok, for you not to know certain things, as long as you don't keep up with the latest research. Keep up the good work though.

  • @laylaindy Your other comments didn't post but your current comment don't prove anything.

  • i don't really give a fuck what your majoring in. just shut the fuck up and listen to steve, you might just learn something

  • @kissntellen LOL! NICE!

  • COMMENT PART 2

There has been a serious debate over this topic with partisans on each side. In 2005 the dairy industry was even sued for this claim. In 2007 though, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study showing that the calcium in the milk is linked to weight loss. A significant number of studies all over the world, and not only in the USA actually show that dieters who eat a calcium rich diet are more successful in losing weight.

  • COMMENT PART 4

Other studies you may check are published in the Obesity Reviews-research journal-USA, Japans National Institute of Public Health-research institute, and many others. Note: The debate goes on anyway, and in 2008 the Nutrition Reviews Journal concluded that milk does not help in weight loss. Funny enough to know the author of this paper is dr. Lanou, a nutrition scientist who claims that dairy products are actually not needed at all for human beings!

  • COMMENT PART 5

Hmmmwould this conclusion be trustworthy coming from this scientist as long as there is evidence already proving that the consumption of dairy products is actually needed for our bones, and it prevents diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, and a few other ailments?

  • hey, i'm just wondering, say if i don't exercise for one day (like, probably walking a maximum of like, 200 metres throughout the whole day) but eat almost the same amount i eat on any other day, what's the worst that can happen?

  • If you don't exercise, but eat the same, you will probably not create a caloric deficit for that day. Which means, where ever you are in your weightloss program, you may not drop any weight for THAT day. You'll then continue your weightloss on days that you do exercise. You may still lose weight on a non exercise day depending on how much you eat. Or you'll stay the same OR, you may eat 50 -100 calories that you don't burn up, which means your weight will go up about 1/4 of 1 ounce; VERY small.

  • oh wow thanks for taking the time to tell me all this! much appreciated and learnt from :)

  • Some people keep their metabolism up from exercise for as long as 36 hours. But It can be as low as 12 hours. So the cool thing is that when a 200 pound person burns 200 calories doing an exercise, he is also going to burn another 200 calories or so from the metabolic boost. Assuming he is the person who's metabolism boosts for 24 hours.

  • woah thanks, i never actually knew that! :)

  • no problem. Another interesting thing is that you burn the same amount of calories doing cardio for an hour straight as you do if you do four 15 minutes sessions of cardio that day. Doing work is doing work so take breaks in the beginning. It still adds up to the same.

  • gosh you know everything! *bows* and er, you know that thing you said about metabolism speeding up after exercise? well like, is the metabolism gonna be faster 20 minutes after the exercise than it will be like, 20 minutes after that? or is it consistent?

  • @thenameaintjim I believe I just covered this in 4-21-10 BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • @thenameaintjim The metabolism slows down rathe quickly after exercise. It does not stay elevated. That's a myth.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV ugh that sucks :( thanks for all the info though :) hey btw, i've managed to get really fit over the past few months - well by my standards at least - and i was wondering, if from now on i only exercise four times a week, will i lose any of the fitness or will it stay?

  • @thenameaintjim That's not accurate. I covered that on one of my BlogTalkRadio show during the week of 4-19-10. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • That's incorrect.

  • Im just saying it can help, I know it doesn't make that huge a difference.

  • If you lift weight that extra muscle will increase your metabolism

  • NejiKusa: If this were true to the extent that I really mattered, there wouldn't be fat construction workers. Landscapers would all be super lean and fit right?

  • It's only about 11 calories a day per pound you gain from muscle. Maybe 13 at the most. I guess if you gained 20 pounds of muslce it would make a difference if you also kept lifting to maintain it.

  • so if i eat celery i would lose more calorie then gaining calorie right if so ima buy a s*** load of em

  • @snowbanditz Yeah, because it's that simple...do some research.

  • Yes, a healthy calorie controlled diet where you burn the excess fat is the best way to lose weight, and when you stop buying choc bars and chips etc then you will save money! I think that after a few months the metabolism slows down when you are dieting (maybe BodyPerformanceTV could advise on this), but rather than decreasing what is being ate on the diet you increase the exercise??

  • Yes, exercise will help speed the metabolism.

  • I find that if every once in a while i eat my maintenance amount of calories it seems to speed up my metabolism again. I know 'Body For Life" will have you have a cheat day every week where you can eat all you want. I find this too risky in losing my momentum. Didn't work for me. What seems to work best for me is one day every 10 days or so I eat an extra 500 calories which is about 1/2 of my normal weight loss defiicit.

  • What about N.O.S., Nitric Oxide...

It actually is a pre-workout shake...and helps increase cardio....but will it aid in actual fat burn/loss...???

  • like steve said. fat is just stored energy. so simply take in less and spend more. eat less calorie dense food but you can eat a lot of low cal food, apple oranges, etc etc. just have to do a exercise where you can do it for a long time and be moderate.(walk) or really anything that uses energy. and puff thats the majic pill lol

  • You've got to WORK OUT to burn fat. Cardio hard, lift heavy!

  • Hard and Heavy!

  • in physical activity that is.

  • You are right, it's all about calories in versus calories used.

  • @SuperEcoGirl Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • what abt green tea? i read smwhere it eliminates fat frm ur body. n the famous green apple diet too.. ? r they da same?

  • bad for the bones

  • green tea ?? yes it burns fat , but , WITHOUT milk

  • Teas, apples, etc. do not elliminate fat from the body. Save your money.

  • apples don't remove fat but interestingly many people are carrying about 20 pounds or more of impacted fecal matter. Apples are one of the foods that seems to help release it and more so than just it's quantity of insoluble fiber.

  • We Do NOT have impacted fecal matter in our colons. THAT'S A Bullshit MYTH!

  • Then why would people who juice fast for 2 weeks with all the fiber strained out get colonics and have a seemingly endless amount of fecal matter release? I water and wheat grass juice fasted at a clinic once and also did colonics. After a week there should be no fecal matter releasing but I can tell you for sure that ALOT came out. Same was true with my two friends.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV I do have a lot of respect for your work and everything you have accomplished by far, but, in my opinion, you should be careful when you say things that are incorrect, because it makes you look bad and unprofessional. There is scientific research that shows there are foods that sped up metabolism.

  • @laylaindy Name one!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Boy is that EVER a bullshit myth and the myth continues. There are Youtube videos regarding this that claim John Wayne had 73 lbs. of " whatever " impacted in his system when he died. How they came up with 73 lbs, and why they're picking on " the Duke " I have NO idea. This is just hillarious.

  • @brushfour44 I know. People think if you walk or job in the morning your metabolism is elevated all day. Hardly! 5-10 minutwes later it's back to normal, if not sooner. And I've heard the Duke rumor for years. The colon is smooth. No place for "shit" to hide or stick! :O)

  • wait hold on , green tea is ONLY to be consumed after eating

  • Why after eating?

I drink it in the morning as well.....

  • no it can be very bad for the body when consumed in an empty stomach

  • it can give stomach pain coz of the tannins, drink a sip of milk with it, it'll react with the milk proteins and not give stomach pains anymore

  • hey someone i know what i'm asking is lame but what about lipo to take off extra fat that's really hard to burn ?i've been working out for yrs and seem unable to achieve my goals

  • Lipo happens to have one of the worst stats on all surgeries for complications during the procedure. I think its like 1 in 900 get some kind of fairly serious complicaton. Are you sure you are eating the right amount of food to be at a calorie deficit? You can't exercise and eat lots of crap and think you will lose weight.

  • so eat cottage cheese???? like on a regular basis???

  • When someone says he has fast or slow metabolism is that means his digestive system is slow?

  • Thanks!

  • i like you!!love the wat you explain things!

  • nice video and good help, but i was just wondering, Can you incresase Calori-consumption by pills or anything else?

  • yea diets r so confusing for me and i have a really fast metabolism so i dont think it matters how many calories u eat right??, cuz i jus cant stop eating but im all muscle, it's wierd, do u have an explanation for that??

  • the reason for this is most likely your genetics, i have good genetics,my dads side of the family is very thin with a naturally fast metabolism and so is my moms side of my family,so when i eat doughnuts cookies and milk and anything else i want all day long it never makes me fat and im not even active.but then i know alot of people who are genetically designed bigger with a much slower metabolism, working out all the time still losing nothing mainly because of their genetics.

  • Even if it does not make you fat, I suppose you know this is not healthy at all. Your body needs nutrition not just energy. Your arteries would be grateful if you stopped eating those doughnuts, too.

  • yeah, i know it's not healthy, i'm just illistrating how fast my and other peoples metabolism is thats all.

  • so like im eating wut i like now and it's high protein and anyways i gained muslce which i needed cuz i lost my other muslce and so i feel good and i also found out that fruit can u make u fat bcuz frutose is sugar and i guess sugar stores as fat

  • hey just a question with this advice that youve given us will the person eating less calories and do CARDIO will loss muscle? cause im scared

  • cardio definately makes you lose muscle mass but if you are only doing 40 minute session you dont have to worry. And if you are not exercising at all you might gain a bit of muscle from cardio. Depends on the cardio too. Swimmers and rowers have big muscles and long distance runners get alot of muslce mass loss. I love my concept 2 rower!!!!

  • Because they contain sugars and proteins which still contain calories.

  • yea i have a question too, why is there foods with no fat and they still have calories??gosh i dont understand diets and shit and wut to eat and wut not to eat...

  • its a fair question. a gram of fat has 9 calories, a gram of protein has 3 and a gram of carbohydrates has 3. So people have gone crazy overboard avoiding fat because it has triple the calories per gram. But you need good fats to be healthy. It is always a matter of knowing how many calories you are getting and how many you are burning from day to day. If you google the food you are eating and the word 'calories' you can keep record of how many calories you are eating.

  • hi just a question about calorie burning and fat loss?im wondering, there are activities like watching tv, reading, etc that burn calories, but, do these contribute to actual fat loss? if i am also exercising though, will these activities such as watching tv help with losing weight? everything we do, burn's calories, but does it all rlly help with fat loss? example, calorie counter online, i typed in 4 hours watching tv, and for my weight i wud burn 390 calories just for watching tv for 4 hrs lol

  • as a rule of thumb you can multiply your weight by 10 to see how many calories a sedentary person needs to maintain their weight. Just by existing you burn calories which is to say that just by sitting on the couch you are burning calories to keep your organs and muscles alive. Watching TV is probably the same amount of calories as sitting on the couch with the tv off. Sorry.

  • they say that you 1 gram of fat is 9 calories! if i eat for example 4 grams is 36 calories! if i ride my bicycle for 30 minutes i burn about 400 calories!!! if i burn 400 calories and i have eated 36 calories i will burn those calories all of them??? there will be burned 364 more calories than i have eated??? for an other example if i have eated a 40 grams=360 calories and i ride my bicycle for 30 minutes i will have burned this calories and 40 more???

  • eated is not a word

  • you mean ATE not EATED.. lol

  • im gonna stary eating celery like all the time now lol

  • so if i do cardio as soon as i wake up, without eating i could lose this "stored energy"?

  • Your muscles would be fine but you'd get a terrible headache because your brain would run out of its fuel: sugar. Eat breakfast- it's good for you.

  • it doesnt really matter when you exercise. You have to look at how many calories you got for a whole day and then subtract how many you burned. So if you weight 200 pounds and did light cardio for a half hour you probably burned 2200 calories that day just being alive and then another 200 to 300 from the cardio. So you burned 2500. If you ate 2500 calories you broke even. If you ate 2000 calories you were at at deficit of 500 calories and if you keep that up you will lose 4 pounds a month.

  • Thank you!

  • stunning piece of video as always steve! thanks!!!

  • Drinking green tea, eating raisins, and taking a Vitamin C pill before cardio exercise will help you burn more fat. That's what the latest studies are saying. You can not simply eat these and expect to lose weight, thought. Only way to do it is take these BEFORE your workout. The very latest evidence is suggesting that white tea may be more effective than green.

  • Fat on your body is stored fuel LOL! I know it's true but fat people always get tired easy haha.

  • They're supposed to have more energy with all the fat but they tire easily because they're not in shape. Therefore their bodies aren't utilizing the stored energy efficiently due to lack of condition.

  • how can i know how many calories my body burns a day without exercise?

  • average male can eat 2500 calories without working out. women=2000. i stay at a comfortable 1500 with a workout.

  • google calories burned calculators and find a good one. IT should be around 10 calories a day for every pound you weight if you are not exercising and 11 calories a day if you are exercising plus the calories burned from that exercise.

  • common sence when you think about it, i dont see how some idiots dont believe in it...exc. forward video
