Simply amazing! I can believe I am listening to this tender, magical song again! Listening and watching it again's like going back to a far awar place in time! I heard it in Spanish Sesame Street back in the mid 70's in Nicaragua but the soundtrack's the same and the lyrics are amazingly similar in both languages. Thank you, Sawing, for sharing such a fairytalelike, child friendly theme! :)
THANK YOU for posting this! I miss the old sesame street that I grew up with. My 3 year old daughter watches it now, and it's just not the same. The magic seems to be lost.
Does anyone have the Danny Kaye episode whenre they perform the song near the end of the episode? If so can you please post it. My little one wants to see it :) Thank you!
For the german version of sesame street they had to change most of the melodies which are NOT originally written for sesame street because of the copyrights.
For over 30 years this bug spot was my absolutely favorite song of the sesame street - of course not knowing that the melody was changed for the german market. Later (15 years ago) I found out that the original tune is very different indeed. And NOW this is day that I can see and here the original. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Youtube, I love you!
Tausendfuß, Tausendfuß, zählst die tausend Blumen. Doch hör auf und sieh dich um ... wunderbar, ja. I really like to watch the german version, too. Did you find it at youtube?
Nein, leider nicht, aber ich habe eine Sesamstraßen-CD, auf der das deutsche Lied drauf ist. Komponist: Ingfried Hoffmann (Robbie, Tobbi und das Fliewatüt, Hallo, Spencer etc.).
I've waited to see this again for YEARS! Thank you. A beautiful song, simply haunting instrumentation, and also a very wise message; see quality over quantity.
Aw, thank you so much for posting this song! My dad sang this in middle school and taught it to me years ago...I'm so glad I was able to find it. :) Thank you thank you thank you!
In our new textbook, on number theory for p-5 teachers, is an illustration from Hans Christian Anderson and the lyrics for "Inchworm." I asked the class if anyone knew about this song. Only one young lady raised her hand. I asked her if she could sing it. To our surprise she gave us a very beautiful rendition. I told the class that the song must be somewhere on Youtube and to find it and listen.
I just sent this one to my daughter. It's amzing how many kids and young adults never heard this song. It brings back so many great memories as a child. Thanks
How do the Russians account for it being a worm, then? Besides, I thought they didn't have inches in Russia. They'd have "centimeter worms" or something.
Beautiful and timeless. A tear jerker! Thank you so much for this song! My comment must not have posted yesterday, but I just wanted to say that I have not heard this gem for about 35 years! What a great pleasure to keep this classic alive for future generations to share. Much appreciated!
OMG I have tears in my eyes listening to this for the first time in in almost 40 years! If this isn't one of the greatest children's music pieces for television, than what is? Where did you find this masterpiece?
What a sweet song. And i just also know that long ago on the old Comedy Central they show the late great Ernie Kovacs sang that song from his vintage 1950's program and boy it,s so sentimental.Thanx
Wow, in the spanish version this was called "Gusanito Medidor"...hadn´t seen this video in more than 25 years and amazingly I was singing the spanish version along with this one. Never thought I would remember it, thanks for posting.
This song is simply beautiful. It was originally in Hans Christion Anderson starring Danny Kaye. Charles Aznovour did a really good version of this on the muppett show.
it is haunting. A lot of classic ss sketches were a bit eerie and haunting, down to the music and animation and even script. this is not too bad, although it reminds me of someone who's no longer with us.
I agree that this sketch was/is haunting & bordering on eerie.
Actually, this sketch actually madde me sad as a kid, because I didn't like the fact that the inchworm was oblivious to everything around him, including his friend.
That being said, I love this clip & am happy to see it on youtube! Thanks for sharing!
Aww! I looove this song. The caterpillar and the inchworm are so cute and adorable. I haven't seen this clip since perhaps the mid 80's. It's such a beautiful and soothing tune. Thank you so much for posting. Keep on posting such nostalgic classics!
This song popped into my head tonight and after I sang it to my wife, she wanted to hear the real deal. We were thrilled that you had recently posted it. Thanks!!!!!!
What a beautiful song and how soothing this version is. I realy wish the older stuff was back on sesame street instead of it mostly being elmo. I mean come on Kevin Clash is great dont get me wrong. But it is not as nice as watching these clips.
This was one of Jim Henson's favorite songs. The song was also performed twice on "The Muppet Show", by Charles Aznavour, then by the man who popularized it, Danny Kaye.
