  • Goddamn, he is the fucking man.

  • Marc Ribot rules on this!!!

  • <3

  • I hope I can see a show of his one day. And not pay stupid money for it.

  • If you like this you might try Gogol Bordello. There's a free download on their Myspace page right now so pick it up it and see what you think. :0)

  • I saw that show, the 20th, first time i've saw him. A dream come true.

  • hoist that raaagggg!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how that one foot always come up when he's at the mic. Are those his songs, Sullivan & Casey on percussion?! One of 'em looks like a kid [= and I know Casey is always wearing his hat backwards.

  • @LandoftheShanks The kid is Sullivan. The drummer is "Brain" Mantia, who is about 25 years older than Casey. He must be really flattered at all the people who think he looks like a teenager on these 2004 tour videos ;-)

  • @SarahV I bet he would be lol! Sullivan is cute back there.

  • @SarahV hes on chinese democracy too

  • great

  • Really love this song.

  • who else is singing? wouldn't expect dude to bring in pre-recorded vocals, even as harmony...

  • IIRC, the band members were doing some vocals on this tour.

  • @NappyDugoutism

They ar shouting man, they are sailors, Tom is the captain

  • I saw this show a few days earlier in Antwerp. The voice isn't pre-recorded, he 'sang' this just before coming to the mic and it's looped digitally. Something his son Casey is taking care off. You can't see this on the video.

    Great song!

  • I can't believe i baby-sat for him, and got paid $20

  • I cant believe you'd lie about something so dumb.

  • haahhaahahaha

  • @internetwars

lol.. that comment was made of win

  • I feel like a pirate.

  • I was at this concert...thanks so much for posting this. It was on of the best concerts I've ever seen.

  • It's great to see Tom and Brain on the same stage.

  • Oh shit. Is that Brain who played with Primus, and Les Claypool in Colonel Claypool's bucket of Bernie Brains?

  • magic rhythm!

  • Gods come beggin here !!!

    indeed.

great to see Marc and tom on stage.

  • This guy is insane, brilliant, magnetic and lovely. I have been a fan for years now, and he never dissapoints - now if he would only tour a little more. I would drive to hell to see him play a dive bar there...

  • Smoke is blacking out the sun,

At night I pray and clean my gun

  • electric maracas? no way

  • We are in awe and wonder and quiver at the sight and talent and soul and rhythm and fierce passion and emotion that is so evident.Very very moving performance.Thank you for posting

  • Amazing!!! One of the best songs ever written.

  • agree!

  • Hurray for Marc Ribot back on guitar!

  • Yeah Les Claypool played a few songs on this album and I think that might even be him right there.

  • Oh man, I wish I was there.

  • How about that band? I love seeing this rarity.

  • didn't les claypool play bass originally on this track?

  • *shivers*

  • very great!!!

  • Sometimes me and my friends take a day of school, buy a bottle of whiskey and a couple packs o' cigarettes, bring a cd-player on batteries, go sit right beside the railway tracks, pop Real Gone in and jump around to Hoist That Rag. Great memories.

  • Same here, except we didn't bother leaving the school.

  • that was an AWESOME solo

  • If none of you avid Tom Waits fans have seen it, I'd recommend watching Coffee and Cigarettes just for the scene with Waits and Iggy Pop drinking coffee in "Somewhere in California". One of my favorite things to watch. Ever.

  • have you seen ironweed? about the depression era filmed near troy , new york- with tom waits, jack nicholson, etc etc, i recommend it if you haven't!

  • this is the song that started it all for me a few years ago. i was in a record store somewhere in god knows where and they were playing hoist that rag and i was entranced by the poetry of the words and the brutality of the imagery and how they blended i quickly bought up ever waits cd vinyl or cassette i could find and here i am 18 years old and addicted to the greatest musician of our or any time

  • KIDS GOT TASTE

  • That's awesome.. It was 'Misery is the River of the World' for me. My roomie had the vinyl of Blood Money and played it for me one night. First song on the album and I was hooked.

  • Haha my buddy played that song and God's Away On Business one day and I got hooked.

  • I was there too, with my brother. He cried when Tom came on stage. He's 55!

Tom is God! Thank you for posting. :)

  • Mr Waits, you make me cry with your ineffably

beautiful songs. Blessings on you Tom and happy xmas.

  • TOM WAITS COME TO GREECE

  • God made me a hammer today

  • This is something else, can't wait to see him. Love Mr. waits.

  • Very nice SarahV,

I was there 1 of the 3 shows of him in Holland.

I had waited a long time before he came to Holland.

  • is that brain?

  • I believe it is.....absolutely amazing

  • I was there too this is the first time I see it so close. Sat in the middle way in the back.

    I can feel it again.

  • fucking unbelievable, one of my favorite Waits' songs, amazing, thanks so much for posting it!

  • ditto!

  • greatest fudging artist of this era of pop music, man, i just can't get enough of this guys stash of goodies, everything he touches turns to gold, or should i say ashes?

  • Dieterjoos

its more a roundabout criticism of the use of blind patriotism to justify agression.

  • Is he ever comming back to Europe? Maybe for the orphans tour....aaaah pleaseee

  • Marvellous goose-bumps-song.

    Ribot's guitar solo is astounding.

    Is it about Iraq?

  • the sun is up the world is flat

damn good address for a rat

the smell of blood the drone of flies

you know what to do if the baby cries-

    HOIST THAT RAG!!!

    i love that man.

  • if i dont see tom waits live before i die it probably wasnt worth living... and brain at the same show AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! awesome.

  • i was at this concert, well spent E200 some euro for a black ticket :). He also did his little 'alone behind piano' act in the middle of the concert. great.

  • HOIST THAT RAG!!! Damn good song! Brings to tears of joy!!

  • Was that Brain on those drums in the back?

  • yes it was...

  • yes sir! PRIMUS SUCKS! I LOVE IT!

DID YOU KNOW PRIMUS AND WAITS COLLABERATED ON HIS SONG BIG IN JAPAN AS WELL AS THEIR SONGS TOMMY THE CAT AND COATTAILS OF A DEAD MAN! THE TWO BANDS TOGETHER IS THE ULTIMATE COMBINATION!!!

  • If Tom Waits were Santa , he would tell you to Ho-Ho-Hoist that rag.

  • Was that Marc Ribot on guitar? He plays it on the original recording but I can't tell in this video.

  • Yes, that's Ribot on guitar.

  • My brother was there!

    KinkusJimus

  • that's his son up there too.

  • I should'a (would'a) been there... Damnit.

  • ribot is a killer. Can't wait to see him a week form today.
