I love how that one foot always come up when he's at the mic. Are those his songs, Sullivan & Casey on percussion?! One of 'em looks like a kid [= and I know Casey is always wearing his hat backwards.
@LandoftheShanks The kid is Sullivan. The drummer is "Brain" Mantia, who is about 25 years older than Casey. He must be really flattered at all the people who think he looks like a teenager on these 2004 tour videos ;-)
I saw this show a few days earlier in Antwerp. The voice isn't pre-recorded, he 'sang' this just before coming to the mic and it's looped digitally. Something his son Casey is taking care off. You can't see this on the video.
This guy is insane, brilliant, magnetic and lovely. I have been a fan for years now, and he never dissapoints - now if he would only tour a little more. I would drive to hell to see him play a dive bar there...
We are in awe and wonder and quiver at the sight and talent and soul and rhythm and fierce passion and emotion that is so evident.Very very moving performance.Thank you for posting
Sometimes me and my friends take a day of school, buy a bottle of whiskey and a couple packs o' cigarettes, bring a cd-player on batteries, go sit right beside the railway tracks, pop Real Gone in and jump around to Hoist That Rag. Great memories.
If none of you avid Tom Waits fans have seen it, I'd recommend watching Coffee and Cigarettes just for the scene with Waits and Iggy Pop drinking coffee in "Somewhere in California". One of my favorite things to watch. Ever.
this is the song that started it all for me a few years ago. i was in a record store somewhere in god knows where and they were playing hoist that rag and i was entranced by the poetry of the words and the brutality of the imagery and how they blended i quickly bought up ever waits cd vinyl or cassette i could find and here i am 18 years old and addicted to the greatest musician of our or any time
That's awesome.. It was 'Misery is the River of the World' for me. My roomie had the vinyl of Blood Money and played it for me one night. First song on the album and I was hooked.
greatest fudging artist of this era of pop music, man, i just can't get enough of this guys stash of goodies, everything he touches turns to gold, or should i say ashes?
i was at this concert, well spent E200 some euro for a black ticket :). He also did his little 'alone behind piano' act in the middle of the concert. great.
DID YOU KNOW PRIMUS AND WAITS COLLABERATED ON HIS SONG BIG IN JAPAN AS WELL AS THEIR SONGS TOMMY THE CAT AND COATTAILS OF A DEAD MAN! THE TWO BANDS TOGETHER IS THE ULTIMATE COMBINATION!!!
Hello my name is TAMMRON but people now call me tampon, so this song "Hoist that Rag" will always hold warm feelings in my heart which will last forever and to know it was done in Amsterdam only makes my every life force light up with joy and saddness as I wish I could of been there!
