I saw this show a few days earlier in Antwerp. The voice isn't pre-recorded, he 'sang' this just before coming to the mic and it's looped digitally. Something his son Casey is taking care off. You can't see this on the video.

If none of you avid Tom Waits fans have seen it, I'd recommend watching Coffee and Cigarettes just for the scene with Waits and Iggy Pop drinking coffee in "Somewhere in California". One of my favorite things to watch. Ever.

this is the song that started it all for me a few years ago. i was in a record store somewhere in god knows where and they were playing hoist that rag and i was entranced by the poetry of the words and the brutality of the imagery and how they blended i quickly bought up ever waits cd vinyl or cassette i could find and here i am 18 years old and addicted to the greatest musician of our or any time
