we watched this in class one day and this song started after the bell rang but we didnt care so we sat there, watched this and left the class singing it.everyone stared at us but we laughed at ourselves before anyone could.
It's actually not really a crack at folk music at all. The sincere reverence for folk music is obvious throughout the film, even if they have fun with some of the trappings of the *scene* of the 60's folk scene and subsequent revivals.
@chuckschilling I agree.. You go in thinking it's gonna make fun of Folk, but the folk music they developed for the film is just SO good, you can tell there's a love for the medium, which just makes it that much more effective as a film.
@chuckschilling I don't know. Why all the stupid lyrics? With the exception of "When You're Next To Me" all the songs mock the folk style of subject matter and language. I here it as mockery, anyway.
When they showed this at the $1 theater at my college, my boyfriend and I were the only ones laughing at that line. We were practically falling out of our seats and everyone else was stone-faced. Ah, the sad state of education today, nobody got the blowjob joke!
ROTFLMAO!

The only problem with this film was the fact that the music was way better than the music they were spoofing.
