Big difference also the iPhone is 9.6mm and the iPod is 7.2mm. The "thinness" doesn't make a difference. 2mm is not a big difference.

Why do they add things that noone needs in an iPod. By that I mean a camera, wouldn't it be more compact without it. Install a radio instead (this model as far as I know don't have one)! But phone with a camera, flashlight, outdoor dinamics and etc. is an abomination. For an MP3 player it has an outstanding camera. Look at it like this , the iPhone 4 is much thicker and has more space for a better camera. The iPod touch has great HD video recording , which looks the same as the iPhone 4. Yes it has a .7 MP camera but its really good , it also has many other features like Facetime (also on the iPhone) and it has a gaming system that tops the PSP, and retina display. iPod Touch 4th generation is pretty great.

A camera is a camera. Neither device was designed to make a blockbuster movie. With people like this guy it seems thats what he expects from the "i" devices. Also with that The iPod touch is going to be a little less "awesome" since it's so damn thin. Also Apple tech sometimes is pretty shitty and stupidly designed. Neither device seems to be well thought out considering they just put the camera on the iPod and they just finally managed to put multitasking on both as well.

PEOPLE! If Apple were to add all the iPhone 4 features to the current touch version, it would start to make the iPhone OBSOLETE. Some people (a lot actually) would stop buying the iPhone, and go buy the iPod touch to avoid the huge at&t cell contract...IT''S BUSINESS. Apple can get away with selling the $800 dollar iPhone device at $200, because of the money at&t forks over for exclusivity. They can't do that with the iPods so they cut back.

So what if the camera on the ipod touch 4th gen is not as good as the iphone 4. If your getting the ipod touch JUST for the camera, why bother? The ipod is meant for music and multimedia, apple just added the camera, because it is what consumers wanted. Just buy a CAMERA for taking pictures rather than an ipod touch. The camera to me seemed to be only added just for convenience.

Consumer reviews for this product show the camera is barely HD , and compare it to the recording quality in Iphone4 it sucks

With being a standalone the MP3/Camera/Camcorder the video quality should actually have been better than Iphone4 by default

Its also still missing GPS as with previous IPods

This device had so much potential but Apple milked the Iphone4 expectations on this device but failed to deliver , went for cost cutting specs but still with hefty price for consumers

What a ruthless, insulting and unnecessary upsell the iPod Touch camera is. There's no need for it to be that awful, after yet another price hike.

If they wanted to save money they could've went with the 3GS camera. Was anyone complaining that the Touches of the last two years were too thick? They should've accommodated for a bigger sensor.

The greedy, mean spirited nature of that commercial decision was what actually turned me off purchasing an otherwise class leading mobile device.

You can get HDR apps for the iPod touch. The iPod touch takes good pictures outside from distance not zoomed in when it's sunny from my experience.

Thnx for comparing Chris. The only thing that bugged me was the first (flower) image. You can obviously see that the iPod Touch is not focussed on the flower but on the ground even though you focussed on the flower. Maybe the iPod Touch has a focus problem?
