    Great Vid.

  • I was a teacher for 37 years....but I am an educator through out my life. This is a very good opener for those who will be in the field of education. This is also an inspiring

    video.

  • very inspiring..hope I will remember this..

  • The terms can be used synonimously. However, education (learning) is a dance, and only the young or truly naive can think that we can "educate" anyone without societal support. Over the last 23 years I have sadly seen the erosion of the American student's attitudes and behaviors into a "make me" stance. I don't think that is the function of government. I think offering an opportunity to learn is all we can, or should, do. It is up to the student's family to take advantage of it.

  • So we've entered a discussion over the meaning of words. Why does 'educate' get all the cool alternative meanings?

    I'm a facilitator..

  • Super

  • Often times children are just not motivated by the materials or the individual that is presents them to them. Learning has become a stress induced experience for lots of children who are kinesthetic learners. Because some of us don't understand that there are different learning styles. Providing good differential learning materials that allow a child to move and feel relaxed helps eliminate anxiety, increases confidence and fosters spontaneous learning.

  • Actually the song is called Damascus, by Conjure One, a Delerium side project. But that's beside the point. I'm SO using this in my next teacher training seminar.

  • I am a human, a teacher, an educator and a parent. The video makes a long rather semantic statement. Teach, listen or get out of the way. Educate, learn or leave the class.

  • "The greatest sign of a success for a teacher...is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist." -- Maria Montessori

  • Hello. I would like permission to use your video as an introduction to a workshop I am giving to IT educators about teaching strategies and content delivery. I believe that we should change the our mindset about the way we do our work and how we view ourselves.

  • I love the quote. and the video is amazing to play at the beginning of the school year to motivate all as they plan for another year.

  • Philosophy of Physics / My opinion / After reading some scientific ideas: The more I study the more I know The more I know the more ideas I have The more ideas I have the more they abstract The more they abstract the less I know the truth And therefore conclusion from some article: One of the best kept secrets of science is that physicists have lost their grip on reality Israel Sadovnik. • I think this addresses standard 1 of the ILLSC Standards. When asks the question, Do you teach or educate... I think we all need to ask ourselves that at times.

  • As educators, we spend entirely too much time concentrating on just one of Bloom's domains, the cognitive. In order to be effective educators, we must also consider the affective and psycho motor (skills) domains. In my opinion, an effective educator is an affective educators and in the classroom, context is more important than content. All can readily name the teachers who had the most affect on them both positively or otherwise or the classes they enjoyed the most or the least. Math anyone?

  • @rjmseven28 I amstudying to be an EDUCATOR!! lol but for mentallydisabled children. Right now I am working on childhood grades for public schooling but I do notice when I observe classrooms that from September through May theyare teaching for test taking.I know its mandated but I pity the children...they are not learning creativity, they are just learning to tolerate books and words...then they go home to video games.

How does a teacher go about teaching past what is mandatory?

  • It is great. Love it! Must watch if you are an educator.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Overdramatic false dichotomy.

  • Even though I have nothing against teachers themselves for having the desire to educate young people important information that they should be using in the future, I believe that teachers can educate to a certain point where the students at least learned a couple of things or too while some students go left behind due to problems that has to do with experience and cognitive factors whether they get decent grades or not.

  • Inspiring video, learning should be boundless, let YOU to absorb what you can. =)

  • what is this song?

  • What was the name of the Delerium tack?

  • There will always be those students who only want to be taught. For those that actually do want to be educated, there needs to be an option for them. I'm working on a really exciting option here in Southern California.

  • not clear; pale headings which are not visble clearly... what people read

    Best regards

  • Unfortunately, I no longer have the original file, so I can't go in and edit the text. However, if you send me the translations I can add them as subtitles perhaps...?

  • If you do, please let me know as I would love to have it as well!

    Thanks

  • Wondering if anyone knows the name of the song in this vid? Totally love it... but can't find it!! Thanks!

  • Excellant video set to great music, really makes you think. Well done

  • For ManchuDann22

Yes, it's obvious and we can go on and on about how we define words, but I don't think it hurts to remind ourselves of why we work with students. I know a lot of teachers who need to be educators, but they don't have that inspiration-- I would prefer they didn't even try to "teach," but at least a pull on the heart strings might work ... there are other forums for examining all that goes on in a school in depth.

  • Snoopy, It is hardly about "heart strings" and all the silly emotional baggage you are dragging around.

It IS about the very hard work that both the teacher and the student must do to get the student prepared for the very unemotional and uncaring world they are about to enter.

If you need "inspiration" to be a professional teacher, day in and out, then you need to find a different line of work, because on those days your not "inspired" you're hurting your students.

  • Great, you've stated the OBVIOUS perfectly, without any acknowledgement of the issues or problems or solutions.

    Nice EDU-BABBLE!

  • Are you a teacher? (And by this I don't mean to ask whether you are a "teacher or educator". I simply mean, is teaching your career? Is it what you do every day?)

  • pierre, yes, I teach everyday in an inner city (80% free lunch) HS.

Yes, I both teach AND educate, based on the needs of the student, needs that I establish and evaluate, judgements for which I'm held accountable.

My problem with your video and "progressive education" in general, is the mushy emotive sense of educational wonderfulness, happy and sweet

The great lie of progressive ED is that it can make learning effortless, a lie your video gives voice to

    You MUST read E.D. Hirsch

  • @ManchuDan22 Ik this is an old comment I went to an inner city HS I just graduated Im really interested in education Wht I got from this video wasnt teaching is such a wonderful happy job I think what they were saying is instead of forcing kids to memorize stuff we need to try to get them to learn something My validictorian was so stupid but he had a 3.8 because he worked the system not because he was smart or learned something he just memorized and i think this vid is sayin tht needs to change

  • @ManchuDan22 a typical babble from a person who sees the problem and yet do nothing about the issue but babble some more...

  • @sk8rwannabe07 Really? How many years have YOU taught? I'm going on 36. How many graduate degree/certificates do YOU have? I have 5. How many teachers report to YOU? I have 30. Do you even have the slightest idea of what I'm talking about?

"Progressive ED" (Dewey-ism) has been the most destructive force on Public ED in 60 yrs. Do YOU know why? Why is the USA not in the top 20 in the world in Math and Science ED, when we spend the most? I'M doing something by calling this BS what it is! WHY?

  • @ManchuDan22 papers don't make you an educator... duh

  • @sk8rwannabe07 Oh, great! I'm talking to a child who quotes Homer Simpson "duh". Now I can see your level of education.

No, "papers" don't, but 36 years does, you idiot!

Do you have any idea of what I'm talking about? Progressive Education? Dewey? Piaget? ED. Psychology? ED Hirsch?

Stop watch the Simpons and read a book for Gods sake!!!

  • This was very good. It inspired me to become more of an educator and less of a "teacher".

  • You made it. This is the meaning of education and to make somebody educated, grat job, well done.

  • Do schools kill creativity? If creativity was a person schools would be it's concentration camp! I think that young people are going through a creativity holocaust perpetrated by teachers especially ones who hate their jobs. Everyone who agrees this is a disgusting inconvenient truth give me a thumbs up. BTW I'm only twenty years old and I understand this.

  • Well done. The sign that reads "Fire Extinguisher Inside Building" said it all for me.

  • Excellent. Thank you and well done Joshua

  • Great work, bravo! Inspiring!

  • Thanks for the video! It is really well done.
