I've Loved EVERYTHING Tom Waits, from his first album on (even stuff Waits fans were too freaked by to like). I also Love everything written by Kristofferson, from the 1st album on, and befriended KK in his post-Rita life (Love Rita too)...

This song sounds to me as if Tom had been listening to Kristofferson's songs before he put this one down. If not influence, the similarity is patent. I wonder if they hung out about the time Tom wrote this song. 2 Genius Songwriters regardless. We're blessed.

@usuk173 he's not singing about a house. he's using the house as a metaphor for something much more deep and symbolic. clearly you have no soul or appreciation for art if you can't feel at least some emotion from this song. you don't have to like the music or the sound, but to tell me this is shit and theres no soul or emotion put into this song is foolish. i happen to find a great deal of symbolism in this song and it applies to me personally to a family member. thats what art is supposed to do
