  • My first car was a '68 bug. I fixed it up and drove it for 5 years, joining the Air Force, taking it with me, and dropping her off in Oahu. I hope she's still alive. Sometimes I miss her.

  • I know the feeling. I had to sell mine in May of this year. I thought it'd be hard to do, but it was a lot harder. But, the family that has her now are classic VW enthusiasts, and have always wanted a classic Bug to turn into a prize-winning all-stock show car, and mine was the one they chose. So I was proud of that.

She's finally getting the retirement she deserves, after 41 years of faithful service. I hope to have another someday, but this one I'll always miss. :)

  • Criminy. To whoever asked the question if I had a dashboard cover, yes, I do. There's a crack in the dash and as soon as I get the dash either mended or a new (old) dash, then I plan to take that old thing off because it's pretty tacky.

And... I'm really good at accidentally hitting 'Remove' instead of 'Reply' on comments. Oops. Sorry. Sigh...

  • I have a 68 beetle too mine is yellow and cream 2 tone!!~~~

  • I looove that color. I've seen a cream tone late 60's Bug running around my town. Is the interior cream tone as well? The interior of mine is black, and I've left it just as-is because I'm not sure how I want to restore the interior yet.

  • G'day Mate, I too am a 68 Beetle owner from Sydney, Australia. Mine is the same Diamond Blue colour as yours. Please tell me something about the dash panel on yours and other US models i've seen on youtube. Is it a padded vynle you have because the Aussie made ones were just steel. It really Lo\ | /oks the part. Co\ ! /oL

  • Hey friend! Nice to meet another 68 owner. You guessed it, the dash is vinyl. Maybe your dash is older? I don't know if you can really tell in this shaky video, but there's a tacky cover on it, because there is a huge crack in the dash. The cover came with the car when I bought it in May '07 and I haven't taken it off since it keeps my cell phone from sliding out of the window. :P It's coming out this Fall, though, when the weather cools off here and I start working on the car again. • Nice Video! I like just regular videos of peoples cars. They always have to use fancy graphics, or do something stupid. But, I like yours because its someone enjoying their little beetle friend! I just got a 68 Cabriolet a few months ago.

  • Awesome, another 68 owner! How are you liking yours so far? Little by little I've been working on mine, when I have time and money. I love driving it, there's such a thrill in running down the road with the rpm's up and the windows down, in such a great little car (and such a great piece of history). One of the best purchases I've ever made.

  • Oops I just deleted your other comment when I meant to hit Reply. They really do have the Remove button a tad too close to Reply for klutzes like me. Haha.

Do you get ethanol in your gas in L.A.? Mine seemed to sputter and cough on the 87, but switching to premium seemed to fix that. My next fix on the Bug is a more suitable carb/dist pair. Prev owner had an 009 with a 30 Pict 1. I really don't need an 009! They also apparently raided a '74 for parts, which I've been slowly rectifying.

  • 12/23/2009 Hi there, I am sooo sorry for not checking my inbox, I didnt know I had one till today. WE do get some ethanol put in the gas during wintertime, but, I havent noticed any problems. I put in 89 mid grad the first time I got gas, it ran like crap even on that stuff!..lol But 91 octane premium works fine now. I think thats what VW said to use anyways, back then too of course, that was considered Regular...LOL

  • Hi, well, im sooo sorry. I just now found out that I have an inbox on youtube. I didnt know that. Please forgive my stupidity for not answering you sooner. Today is DEC 23rd, 2009, and yes we do get some added during the wintertime here in Los Angeles, for smog purposes, they also add PTFE, which is teflon, or graphite, dont remember which..hehe The first time I got my beetle gased up, I got 89 mid grade, and not 91 premium, and it ran like crap, and no power either. 91 used to regular grade !
