@SSMTamu yes sotang is rai. to my best knowledge there 32 rais. some of them are athpaharaiya, bantawa, bahing, chamling, dumi, kulung, mukarung, thulung,......etc. and maybe you do not know that within each rai group there are again another sub group which is call parcha. for example bantawa has different parcha, let say parcha "A" , "B", "C" and so on. and same thing with other rais. so rais have this system that same parcha cannot marry one another because they are blood related.

that is parcha "A" from bantawa rai cannot marry parcha "A" from dumi rai, chamling rai, mukarung rai and so on. again parcha "B" from thulung rai cannot marry parcha "B" from sotang rai, bahing rai, wambule rai and so on. in short, same parcha means they are blood related. anthropologist have studied this deeply and said that kiratis were very clever to have invented this system. it's like a hindu caste system but in this system everyone is equal and same blood is not mix.
