  • what's the limit on bullshit as i approach my wife?

  • nice!

  • Grap... Hehe

  • In Soviet Russia, 2 approaches x!

  • i used to know about calculus, until i took a limit to the knee

  • @immortalindian22 oh no not another arrow in the knee reference lol

  • i was gonna say a science joke but this is a math video and all the good science jokes Argon

  • @444zane3 beware, iv got my ion you!

  • @444zane3 uMad Bromine? Come @ me Bromine. I got my Ion you.... haha

  • you're high, aren't you?!!

nice vid thou, as always ;)

  • @platazar He's using Paint.

  • wow. youtube knows me so well. it suggested i watch this video and i just started learning limits. haha.

  • funny ... grap is the dutch word for joke.

  • prof: "what is this called?"

    student: "that's a grap"

    prof: " ..........."

    student:"what? that's what khan said"

  • CONFUSING !!!!!

  • 22 professors are worried about loosing their jobs.

  • watch?v=EhrYQrLBiTQ

  • @suliemanhs what does a guy rapping have anything to do with limits, again?

  • exactly what i need to learn in life... eh?

  • @32deej If you want to do any work with anything interesting, yes. :) I'm wasting my time, aren't I?

  • @SB9101 dont get me wrong, this is good stuff. hell, i got hooked into watching these because i caught on quickly.

  • I hope you see this comment to all those dumb ass teachers who teaches shitty and are making your class mates watch this video.

  • @koreathreekingdoms After watching this wonderful lecture have some fun. Multiply without multiplying. Check it out! "Speed maths- Multiplying without multiplying". Click on my username and check the vid. Cheers.

  • LOL GRAP!

  • why dont u use the i pen for inputs

  • Well done !!!!

  • "grap"

ADD TO DICTIONARY, NEW MATH TERM

  • Which program do you use to write

  • As much as I love Khan's stuff, and this has helped me out...somewhat.

The calculus i am doing...somehow?!!!!?!?! is a lot different to this. And I suck at calculus and I am repeating an exam soon. The problems we get are noooothing like this, or like in any of the other videos..which really sucks =[

  • is that an outdated software? sals drawings were better in the other videos

  • i didnt get the second part?

  • The internet is a blessing and a curse.

    Google dumbs us down.

    Khan Academy helps us out.

Maybe the future won't be the way the producers of Idiocracy perceive it to be..

  • how the fuck is this an Introduction to Limits?! you didnt introduce anything.

  • ready to take on pre calc. I GOT ALL SUMMA LONG

  • @paulceltics celts suck

  • @MrBharath37 you suck

  • @paulceltics u wush i suck ;)

  • That was amazing

  • Sal, amazing stuff and its all free ! You cant imagine the amount of extra tutoring that goes on in Pakistan for this stuff. Those teachers who have a good record, meaning their students achieved good results in past O-levels or A-levels exams are asking for fees that are out of reach of about 99% of the students in this country. Your lectures will do a lot of good in third world countries. Wish you all the success in your future plans. God Bless!

  • Sal i have been reviewing all of your videos to review for my final in Calc 1. I would sincerely like to thank you. Idk how I will do but I know that your videos have given me a far greater understanding of the Overall subject. Idk if you know how big of a difference you are making for students like myself.

  • IT'S A SLINGSHOT

  • Cool, but do you have the answers to my next test?

  • @plptous Amen my brother in Christ!!! The end is near!!!

  • I am finally going back to college since math was my least favorite subject thanks to you Salman!!

  • haha i'm gonna call it a grap now

  • thumbs up if you love Salman Khan's color scheme :)

  • I love you Khan!!!

  • oh cool i turned off the lights because of the earth hour application, youtube applied and the video really stood out

  • well, guys since Sal said it, it's time to start coining the word "grap"

  • Please make more videos.

  • u blew my mind at 6:30. damm it

  • Great lesson i thank u very much

  • mind okay up until 3min mark mind blown at 3:10 and beyond... great videos on how you explain this. I am eternally grateful

  • GRAPS! THANK YOU PROFESSOR KHAN!

  • I'm not english, but this is VERY helpful!

I'm still in school btw :D

  • dude u are funny and smart. "grap" lmaoooo but seriously thanx

  • gap in the graph could be called a grap lmao

  • @dravidr007 a graphical cap

  • @adilhasnain watttttt

  • @dravidr007 or a gaph

  • p.s. love all the videos. And you will be giving a talk at my college sometime this week (broward college, central campus), but i can't attend, because thanks to you, I am now taking pre calc, physics and physics lab this semester!! thanks!

  • WHAT WILL THE TANGENT LINE TO F(X)= XSQUARE IS ? IS IT Y=4X-4 ?

  • @dat1nonlychula4u tangent to f(x) = x^2 is the derivative of f(x), dy/dx = 2x

  • wow these videos are great! please keep them coming

  • Lim (Salman Khan) -> Infinity = ?

  • My cheap ass professor seriously posted links to this video on my class syllabus. Lazy fuck.

  • @bodinian Haha what school?

  • @bodinian L O L.

  • @bodinian I'd rather learn it from Sal, anyway. He's the only one who's ever made any sense, and I don't know why that is. But every other Math teacher, who's seen me in person, has given me something akin to a death sentence when it comes to hoping I'll be able to master it.

The learning therapist I had, right after I had the accident that messed up my left brain, told me I'd "never learn anything beyond a 6th grade level."

    They should have fired her.

  • @bodinian my teacher told us to learn it ourselves... we have quizzes everyday. ohh shooott

  • @bodinian Be glad. This is probably better than what else he would use.

  • @bodinian just wasting money when you can get it for just the cost of internet

  • @bodinian Well your professor could have just expected you learn it the first time you saw it in class. Your professor is trying to help you out. Don't be ungrateful.

  • @bodinian same here. i hate those kinda teachers

  • @bodinian maybe it was a lifeline. Maybe it will be in the test. Most importantly it has a replay function.

  • @bodinian He's smart.

  • @bodinian Lmao

  • Those are the maths I learn now! :-)

  • I like your videos, but I'm still confused as to what a limit is :( I had to look up other videos, and one video explained that on the graph, it's a matter of the relationship between the vertical position and the horizontal position.

Please don't assume that anything is obvious. It may be obvious to you but it may not be to others.

  • @maddcat0 i felt the same way!!

  • Comment removed

  • I was saying 'Huh?' until I discovered I have to return to f(x) examples, which didn't make sense the first time I did them but I hope will make more sense when my friend helps me w/ it.

  • graps ftw

  • Fellows, Sal has begun to transcribe his videos to ultimately have captions/subtitles for all of them.

Undoubtedly this means that we will have lessons in captions of any language!

Khan Academy is approaching its mission to give light and hope to the remotest corners of our world - who do not speak English.

Thanks to Salman Khan: now because of him we [hopefully] will reach worlds where everyone has the wherewithal to break from the oppressive chains of forced ignorance.

  • @TeleMentoring I love Sal's videos and mission. I will be happy to transcribe out some of the videos and Email the words off to whomever. It just has to wait until after finals.

  • @Michalbasavraham. Great! You tubers, you should visit: khanacademy The Forge at Google sites.

  • wow, i love your videos and my whole family does too!

  • Gap in the graph..........grap!!!!

  • what software did you use to create this lecture?

  • @rgh1986aka199

    He's using MSPaint

  • @jeminijem1 No. This question has been in his faq thus..

What equipment do you use to make your videos?

I use Camtasia Recorder ($200) + SmoothDraw3(Free) + a Wacom Bamboo Tablet ($80) on a PC. I used to use ScreenVideoRecorder($20) and Microsoft Paint (Free).

  • whoa i checked this out out of curiosity and im sooo lost not looking forward to this :(

  • Need to marry you **busizz4me.info**

  • Just hv a question kinda stupid maybe, if X=2 in the second problem, doesn that make the answer = 3 instead of 4? thanks!

  • @cbda90101 thats a good question. i think the limit as x approaches 2 of f(x) equals 3 and 4, which means that the limit does not exist for that function.

  • Comment removed

  • 3.20 is so hlrs when he mocks himself.. awesome sal...

  • Just plug in the 2 into x^2 and you get 4. It's really not that bad.

  • I had the most arrogant fucking calculas teacher in the world. You're cool, but FUCK that teacher. I hope he burns in fucking hell.

  • "which could be called a 'grap'" lol

  • @hedonism Actually he might be going the hard way but it all connects till video 4.

My stupid high school teachers practically used to tell us to solve limits by just substitution, then they just had us remember rules, "oh solve it like this if you see that" he explains WHY you simplify the function when you see it undefined and what you're really doing there. Very awesome!

  • I hate people who hate Khan Academy, but this time, I think this video is Khan's.... only let down.

His science vids, and his (other) maths vids, they were all awesome, but this...

I didn't get it until about 5 minutes ago, and it wasn't thanks to Khan.

This is a really simple concept, and it seems like he's decided to go the hard way around for this video.

But, if other people found it easier to learn it this way, ok.

  • @hedonism13 He always does things the hard way.

  • @RonBurgundy161

    Nah, not always. Just this.

Oh, and the orbitals in chemistry.

Everything else was easy and eye opening.

  • Awesome explaining and funny too. Thanks dude!!!

  • If anyone could tell me the difference between Calculus and Statistics (how much math is involved, which one is more interesting, and what is "easier") then that'd be greatly appreciated. This video seems to change my opinion of math a tad.

  • U r just too good at making though look easy

  • We have a grap! Lol. Hey, this vid really helped me. Thanks dude! Keep pumping out vids :D Thanks Salman.

  • This is awesome.

  • pretty sure i just ACED my calc test

  • Thank you very much for these videos.

  • i love that grape really

  • Thanks for the videos man. Hopefully I'll get a 4.0 in calc =)

  • You dnt knw he much your videos have helpd me Sal.

    I m so glad i found you on youtube....^_^

  • you rock, you have saved my life dude.... thanks from Buenos Aires, Argentina!

  • I am impressed :)

  • you are the best thank u for ur time god bless u

  • Khaaaaaaaaan!!!

  • i lol'ed at "Grap"... and i'm stuck in the library xD

  • I love your videos but your wording in this is really confusing for me.

  • it's crazy how you've helped millions of students, including myself

    thanks

  • thanks for this man...

  • @pawank2009 you should really just stfu and be thankful this guy is helping millions of people for non-profit

  • Grap lol

  • I have the same reaction. I could never learn math in the way that my teacher wanted me to learn it. I kept thinking of math in terms of space and time, not in terms of stuff on a board or in a book. I literally always wanted to hold and touch "math," so that I could understand it. I couldn't. I usually gave up.

  • @TheEdReformer lol you use idetic thinking like me

  • Hi Mr.Khan. I'm Amogh from India. I ve been watching your videos for the last 8 months and they were very helpful. I needed a teacher like you. Thank you

  • And the blackboard was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And Sal said, "LET THERE BE CALCULUS!" :D

  • "...a gap in the graph, which could be called a Grap."

  • I'm stoopid :(

  • I watched this and realized that I already knew how limits worked and what they are XD As soon as you wrote down the example, I blurted out "4".

  • why did i watch that video?

  • Once you get through limits, calculus will be easy

  • Great work! this should really help me prepare for pre-calculus, which have to take online over the summer

  • I'm having trouble understanding this, but that's probably because I haven't slept in 28 hours. I'll watch it again in the morning.

  • thnk you so much

  • This Topic Is Beginning of Calculus? I want to learn Caculus from beginning

  • so the limit is 3?

  • Thanks as always! I also got a really good laugh out of the whole "grap" bit.

  • "a grap in the graph" lol that made me laugh, btw thanks alot!

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • My calc professor said to us(a class of about 50 students) the other day that there will only be ten of us who will get through the class and make it to the final. Apparently he has a reputation of being challenging. I'll be watching your video religiously. So far I've watched a couple of the trig video as a review and so far so good. I really like what you've done and hopefully these video will help me like it has for iMNice99163

  • Got me an A last semester because of your videos. Hope these do the same for this semester. I like your style. Go Cougs!

  • thank you

  • calculus is not hard but very time consuming.....i really appreciate your videos and i rate them 5/5 without a doubt cuz they help me so much....may god bless u men...

  • I agree anybody can do calculus without major learning disablity.

some enjoying being detailed oriented like sal.

    great vids

    khan academy woot!!!

  • @jaabirana No, it's definitely hard

  • @myqueensindel I agree with him, it's just time consuming.

  • I want to punch my self in the face WTH my teacher didn't teach this in school. FML. thanks sal

  • wow, why didn't I find this sooner in my life.

  • yeah me too

  • Me three.

  • Sal, I just want to thank you, these videos were instumental in helping me to pass my Florida teachers examination for high school math. Yipee!

  • Sal, you are my idol.

  • random: what does 4 to the power of i equal to?

  • is it .183456974+9830277404i?

  • Great explanation..with a good sense of humor..thanks

  • Amazing. Totally cleared it up for me. I was never taught a graphical way to visualize a limit. YOU ARE AMAZING

  • Brilliant explanation in fact. The book I'm reading just splatters the page with words and numbers but how in the hell are you meant to know whats going on without seeing it on the graph. Now it all makes sense. Thanks a lot.

  • Good intro
