  • It's ok Tom Paxton is just updating one of his best oldies, true now as it was in the sixties, still warning us, and guess what, NOBODY IS LISTENING NOW EITHER. There's much money to be made in war, especially these days when we need less boots on the ground. Sad thing is, the ones who die , will be dead forever, to save us from whatever those in power have convinced us to be afraid of this year. However you can be assured, somebody is making a buck! Votes mean little, voices mean much. BE LOUD

  • A great update of "Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation."

  • So wheres his song about how much of a hypocritical asshole obama is? Or wouldnt that be "politically correct"? You can bet your ASS he voted for Barack.

So who is the bigger hypocrite?

  • @emjee If we want to see the hypocrites, we need look no furthur than the person who brushes our teeth every morning. We continue to allow the military industrial complex to run this show. How many people can tell you to whom is Angelina Jolie is married? Then ask them the name of the vice president of the U.S.A. Compare your results, and realize that this nation has been dumbed down. Forget the Democrats and Republicans, and listen to Eisenhower's warnings in his farewell address.

  • @bensdadfrank Yeah, Eisenhower's speech still rings true today... too bad we haven't been listening.

  • @EagleVendetta Obviously you, me , and some others have. We need a child to say that the king is naked! You have to love the line about "AWOL from the Texas National Guard". What a patriot. How can it be OK that he sent so many of our sons and daughters off to die over faulty intel? HE was the biggest weapon of mass destruction. Didn't even serve his country in the fairly limited and safe way that his family set up for him! Tom, Phil,Pete, Arlo, and so many others have always sung the truth.

  • @bensdadfrank There's a simple way to solve America's problem- a competant leader and less infighting in the goverment.

  • To all you people wondering where songwriters/sings like this are in the younger generations; They exist, but because not enough people appear to be interested in them and they have the moral fortitude not to sell out they do not get signed. Just look harder. They are everywhere.

  • Some one at least tells the truth. Paxton sang the truth in the Viet Nam era, and thank God, he is still alive to tell the truth, and sing the truth, now. God will bless you, Tom Paxton, for being truthful.

  • Many memories of seeing him live. Good to hear he is still writing and performing strong!

  • hey does anyone know where to find the Lyndon johnson/ vietnam version. Its been taken off youtube some time ago. Thnx, great song !

  • hate Americans because it's idiots led by brutes who created this country with the policeman of the world, and slavery with impunity independent states countries: afghanistan iraq but your day will come when the Chinese are buyout and you are ye work for a bowl of rice obalcie the government because he was stupefied, and you yourself so let

  • @bochen88p You better hope you never need Americans to come and help you.

  • @katesgram You better hope you'll still have allies if you ever need them.

  • @Noiseart @katesgram @bochen88p

Got nothing better to say, keep your fingers off the keyboards, grab a banana and eat. Don't talk, don't type. Eat. Nobody minds that.

  • Tom Paxton - a favorite on my way to the Vietnam cluster fuck. Still a favorite truth teller!!!!

  • LOVE it!

  • Brilliant! Flat out brilliant!

Are their songwriters like this among the current generation?

  • @Deathwysh Check out Roy Zimmerman's music. I think some of it is on YouTube.

  • @Deathwysh Yeah right, I wish. This younger generation is the wimpy beyond belief. They'd be terrified to stand up and say something so unpopular. A very sad legacy left by the Boomers who started off well but ended up becoming greedy Republicans who then helicoptered over their kids until they became wimpy vegetables.

  • @simoncowellscores I think you should have actually listened to some current generation music before you have an opinion about it... Do you even know who "Rage against the Machine" is? every song is politically charged. Eminem wrote a song stating vote against George bush in the next election. Wyclef John (whom is black), wrote a song with a lyric "If I was president, I'd be elected on friday, assassinated on saturday and burried on sunday" and NOFX wrote an album with a title Rock against Bush

  • @Deathwysh Well, maybe you can count Eddie Vedder as one, specialy for his solo stuff.

  • @Deathwysh *there

  • Superb lyrical content...a parody of the 'official' story....which is all lies and bullshit!

  • Ah, thank you Tom!

    You've still got the magic!]

  • Thank you for posting!!! Great song, with lots of truth-telling to boot!
