Crosby and Ovechkin have better stats in terms of points, but Datsyuk still usually gets around 90 pts a season....but what is really impressive and indicative of his importance is that he always leads the NHL in takeaways, he plays pk, and he's not afraid to mix it up for the good of the team. He plays hockey the way its supposed to be played. skill, speed, smarts, toughness, finesse......
Pavel would be more popular if he played for a huge market team - the same thing happens with the Tigers and the Lions. Detroit sports are often overlooked in that way.

Pav still has better hands even though Ovis quite a bit younger and I do believe he will continue to improve as he matures and as he desires winning the cup more and more each passing year. I've seen quite a few Ovechkin interviews in Russian, and they show a player who is much more down to earth and humble

Ovechkin to me has less talent than Crosby but has that size and toughness to his game that give him an edge but even so I would have to say #87 is the best hockey player alive and #8 is a close second with guys like Datsyuk, Malkin, Zetterberg all behind the big 2
datsyuk is better than ovechkin and crosby i think, because he has less ice time and still has around the same ammount of goals and stuff. if he played as much as the others he would be right up there with ovechkin in points
I'm Datsyuk's biggest fan, but he's not better than Ovechkin and Crosby. First of all, they both have 45 goals, Datsyuk has 22. Second of all, Datsyuk doesn't have to carry the Wings at times. I mean, The Pens and The Caps are good teams, but they live and die on Crosby (and Malkin) and Ovechkin.

I wouldn't say Caps are nothing without Ovie these days, his first 2 years definitely...but now Backstrom is actually tied with Crosby for points I believe, then they have guys like Semin and Green..let's not forget Laiche and Knuble, Fleischman and Fehr....they'll have more 20 goal scorers and biggest offense this year period. PIT beat OTT 7-4, but when they reviewed the game they only showed two goals... by Crosby. They always say there's no I in TEAM, but apparently they changed that spelling.

There was only one year though, that he was better than them in that offensive category. Regardless, he's the best at what he does in his style.

Datsyuk has the All-mighty Red Wings behind him. Crosby has a great team, but there'S the NHL and Detroit.
Datsyuk has way better hands and he's probably has more agility, but it doesn't makes him better.
People simply think about good hands and huge pile of goals to determine who's the best. You have to be blind not to see how more complete is Crosby; play vision, passes and defense play are things he has Datsyuk mostly lacks in.

Yes I did saw him very often and he's clearly a goal scorer not a play maker; I perhaps exagerated the point, but he's not making plays like Thorton do or Turgeon used to.
These are real play makers. Datsyuk has this ability, yes, but he is not dominant with it.
Also, this indicates me he is not as conscious of his position as Crosby is; Crosby has a better vision. Therefore, he is not as efficient as Kid in this role.

Again, don't get it wrong; he has a great play vision as a goal scorer.
He's more about seeing the play for himself than for others; he spots the opening quickly and can find where to go.
The thing is that Crosby has the other version; he sees it for the others. By this I mean that he is a dominant play maker while Datsyuk is a dominat goal scorer, but both can do both tasks well.
Many people prefer Datsyuk, including me, for the show. He looks better, but he isn't and the pts sheets show it.

Datsyuk is by far a better play maker and for that matter a better player than crosby could ever hope to be. Score sheets don't mean shit in terms of true player skill. And finally, at least Pavel has a pair between his legs and plays much more physically, takes less penalties, and doesn't whine like crybaby does. Hence the LB trophy and Selke trophy.
I explained and i will do so again. Datsyuk is great on the penalty kill, great goal scorer, great hands, great speed, he sets his team up amazingly well, great defensively and he can deke. Datsyuk did have a higher point per game total a few years ago than Crosby or Ovechkin and if he played as many minutes as them he'd have won the scoring title. Datsyuk is a complete player, that's why many consider him the best. Datsyuk is good at everything, face offs, shoot outs, penalty kill, board play, passing, goal scoring, defense, take aways, less give aways, not getting into penalty trouble, drawing penalties. Ovechkin to me has less talent than Crosby but has that size and toughness to his game that give him an edge but even so I would have to say #87 is the best hockey player alive and #8 is a close second with guys like Datsyuk, Malkin, Zetterberg all behind the big 2

I'm Datsyuk's biggest fan, but he's not better than Ovechkin and Crosby. First of all, they both have 45 goals, Datsyuk has 22. Second of all, Datsyuk doesn't have to carry the Wings at times. I mean, The Pens and The Caps are good teams, but they live and die on Crosby (and Malkin) and Ovechkin.

I wouldn't say Caps are nothing without Ovie these days, his first 2 years definitely...but now Backstrom is actually tied with Crosby for points I believe, then they have guys like Semin and Green..let's not forget Laiche and Knuble, Fleischman and Fehr....they'll have more 20 goal scorers and biggest offense this year period. They definitely added some talent.

@FartScrap but it's hard for someone to score upwards up 45 goals when they do the great penalty killing and defense that Pavel does. Crosby and Ovechkin are very good, but for me what pushes Datsyuk over those 2 is his defensive play. I just get really irritated seeing Crosby and Ovechkin on anything and everything hockey. PIT beat OTT 7-4, but when they reviewed the game they only showed two goals... by Crosby. They always say there's no I in TEAM, but apparently they changed that spelling.

@FartScrap That sure does'nr make any difference at all. Skill isn't based on goals scored. Crybaby and asshole both are on teams whose offense is mostly centered around them, while Datsyuk is among other players who score a lot like himself. It's called depth.

that was true last year or the year before I believe when you look at the player production statistic...aka how many minutes it takes for them to register a point. There was only one year though, that he was better than them in that offensive category. Regardless, he's the best at what he does in his style.

Datsyuk has the All-mighty Red Wings behind him. Crosby has a great team, but there'S the NHL and Detroit.
Datsyuk has way better hands and he's probably has more agility, but it doesn't makes him better.
People simply think about good hands and huge pile of goals to determine who's the best. You have to be blind not to see how more complete is Crosby; play vision, passes and defense play are things he has Datsyuk mostly lacks in.

There is something about Datsyuk that Crosby will never have. Who cares if Crosby has more goals. Everytime Datsyuk has the puck he does something great with it weather it is a goal or a great chance. Crosby's good especially for his age and he is young with a lot to learn but the skill of Datsyuk is just too great. Crosby can't and will never measure up to that skill!

Well, Crosby is surely a good play maker which Datsyuk isn't.
Datsyuk is a very talented player, but he's all about a pair of hands and an accurate shot.
Crosby has a better play vision and he can make better passes than the Russian. He can deke, shoot, pass, play defensivly. He's way more complete than Datsyuk.
I can give Datsyuk has better hands though, but he's surely not better.
The main difference here is that I have explained and showed while you simply gave an opinion.

Yes I did saw him very often and he's clearly a goal scorer not a play maker; I perhaps exagerated the point, but he's not making plays like Thorton do or Turgeon used to.
These are real play makers. Datsyuk has this ability, yes, but he is not dominant with it.
Also, this indicates me he is not as conscious of his position as Crosby is; Crosby has a better vision. Therefore, he is not as efficient as Kid in this role.

Again, don't get it wrong; he has a great play vision as a goal scorer.
He's more about seeing the play for himself than for others; he spots the opening quickly and can find where to go.
The thing is that Crosby has the other version; he sees it for the others. By this I mean that he is a dominant play maker while Datsyuk is a dominat goal scorer, but both can do both tasks well.
Many people prefer Datsyuk, including me, for the show. He looks better, but he isn't and the pts sheets show it.

Datsyuk is by far a better play maker and for that matter a better player than crosby could ever hope to be. Score sheets don't mean shit in terms of true player skill. And finally, at least Pavel has a pair between his legs and plays much more physically, takes less penalties, and doesn't whine like crybaby does. Hence the LB trophy and Selke trophy.

I explained and i will do so again. Datsyuk is great on the penalty kill, great goal scorer, great hands, great speed, he sets his team up amazingly well, great defensively and he can deke. Datsyuk can deke unbelievably well. I think that we should agree to disagree on this because your clearly not gonna give up and you will never catch me saying that Crosby is better then Datsyuk. However it is nothing against Crosby. I think he is a great player with a lot of skill.

really? the stats show crosby better? now if you look at the stats more carefully.. datsyuk plays around 18 min per night. crosby plays 23. datsyuk plays 4 minutes less per night than crosby and malkin. malkin and crosby play 3 more minutes per night on the power play. datsyuk plays 3 more minutes on the penalty kill. leaving him 15 minutes to score. and also, to point it out, DATSYUK HAS MORE POINTS PER MINUTE PLAYED THAN ANYONE IN THE NHL. oh and did i mention he wins the lady bing and selke?

LOL. actually i didnt figure those out. datsyuk had a huge article in sports illustrated for winning the Hart trophy. the issue was published in like May. but the author of that article is the one who figured all of those stats out. the only thing i actually knew was that crosby played a shit ton more than datsyuk. and i also knew that datsyuk was the best two-way player in the nhl because he gets 90+ points a year and leads the league year after year in takeaways and is always up there in +/-.

Datsyuk did have a higher point per game total a few years ago than Crosby or Ovechkin and if he played as many minutes as them he'd have won the scoring title. Datsyuk is a complete player, that's why many consider him the best. Datsyuk is good at everything, face offs, shoot outs, penalty kill, board play, passing, goal scoring, defense, take aways, less give aways, not getting into penalty trouble, drawing penalties. Crosby and Malkin are more offensive-minded, so they're ineffective when focused on, as the Wings did so well in the finals.
Datsyuk and Zetterberg are two-way players, which allows them to be effective on either side of the puck.
