@conraddoavil That sounds like a good answer, but the WBC isn't trying to bring people to christ. Shirley says so in Louis Theroux's first documentary about them. @thegarett3 Jesus' suffering is motivation for the suffering of the Christians who were being persecuted by the Romans. Jesus' suffering for mankind is not exactly the same as Jesus' dying for our sins.
@thegarett3 The difference between "suffering for mankind" and "dying for sins" is that Jesus' life and suffering was to show mankind how to live and how to persevere. It's not mystical like dying for our sins. It's very practical.
Seeing Jesus suffer/die for his beliefs and then redeemed encourages later christians to persevere through their own sufferings in the hope that they will eventually be redeemed also.

Second, if there is no real promise of salvation, that puts a huge damper on faith in God. What if God just changes his mind again? What if he decides that theres enough people saved? What if he decides that you didnt do enough? What if people got saved under a certain thing, than God changes his mind and suddenly they arn't good enough for heaven anymore?

Second, if there is no real promise of salvation, that puts a huge damper on faith in God. What if God just changes his mind again? What if he decides that theres enough people saved? What if he decides that you didnt do enough? What if people got saved under a certain thing, than God changes his mind and suddenly they arn't good enough for heaven anymore?

The excuse that the bible was written a long time ago when things were different isn't acceptable to me. Are you saying that there was no hebrew word for "agree"? No matter what age you live in, not crying out doesn't mean agreeing to it. The gospels were written almost 2000 years ago, but they can still be understood in any age.

When Jesus teaches, he does it in parables that people can identify with, because most people wouldn't understand truth or the kingdom of god if it were told directly to them. Even today people can still identify with Jesus' parables

@KayBeeEee1983 We need to know because of a couple reasons. First of all, for the good of the Bride of Christ. Second, for the good of the person themself.
People have been misinterpeting the NT since the beginning of church history? I find that hard to believe, that all these theologians and philosphers have not thought hard about it. Saying that is being historically ignorant.
Perserving and doing the right thing are two sepreate things. People who do evil still perservere

Assuming that all the early christian leaders were thinking hard about it is being psychologically ignorant. The bible itself tells us how to fake it
"People have only been doing the right thing with God's help, not by themselves."
I don't believe that, and I pity people who do. You don't think it's possible to do good for its own sake?
