U have to remember: back then people thought Indians were bloodthirsty savages that only wanted to kill pioneers, where the reality is that the Indians were quite peaceful, California Indians even more so.
Just think...now you walk down Mainstreet, smelling the smell of churros, the great looking buildings around you, and the overall wonderful experience. I watch this video and I think, the next time i walk down Mainstreet, I will remember that history walked down this street, and 50 years of history has happened here. So I will appreciate much more than I already have since the last time I went there. So much has happened, yet so much has grown.
As wonderful as this place is I have to wonder when they first allowed African Americans in? Whites didn't even want blacks drinking from the same water foundation as them so I'd have to assume they were definitely unwelcomed. Anyone know?
@redhibernation It's unlikely there was any segregation. This is in Orange County, there simply isn't a high black population there, even today. At any rate in 1964 the Civil Rights Act was passed that outlawed segregation.
@redhibernation So after some research, Disneyland was never segregated, or refused black people entrance. Like I said, this is Orange County CA, not some place in the south.

Celebrating taking land from Native Americans, calling them "Redskins" and talking of shooting them. Great '50s entertainment. I'm from Anaheim by the way.
Ebsen played Crockett's pal, George Russell, and then in the 1970s, he was the titular protagonist in the TV crime show, "Barnaby Jones". In the 1980s, Ebsen was the narrator for the Disney Channel miniseries called "The Disney Family Album".
Mr Muffle12 this parade is way over 50 years ago, so just think a little it was a big thing at the time. Disneyland was the first permanent amusement park in the western world, So it was a big thing in those days. Think a little before you criticise.

I loved this America where people could pray on TV!
Our country was founded on biblical principals!
This why I love Disneyland!

@dragonboatX Some did NOT survive.....or suffered. That's why we needed higher standards, which was then over-done, creating political correctness.

@Hatterific yes it is true. However, if look very carefully into the crowd, there were some blacks there.
