Alternative metal, Nu metal and Metalcore is real metal as well, its just metal evolving If metal didnt evolve all the time, There wouldn't be any Metallica, Iron maiden, Slayer (I Could live without Slayer), or bands like that, then we would still be listening to Led Zeppelin, Black sabbath, and Blue cheer, but it was because Judas Priest made a move and removed the Blues influences from Metal that we have those bands, Disturbed, Slipknot, A7X, bands like that (Tho not LP) are metal as well...
