Great clip. This movie used to air on TV all the time when I was a kid in the 1970s and was one of my faves. So my generation grew up with Shirley - nearly 40 years after the fact. Well, I just rented this film on Xfinity and it was as delightful as ever! (Xfinity has a great Shirley collection btw!)
I used to wonder what on earth they were singing about when I was a kid: Last week down our alley came a toff Nice old geezer with a nasty cough Sees my missus, takes his topper off In a very gentlemanly way Wot cher! all the neighbors cried Who yer gonna meet, Bill Have yer bought the street , Bill? Laugh! I thought I should've died Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road
@friendsfamilyaccount Oh my goodness THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting the words to the song LOL Ever since I first watched this movie I always loved this scene and humming the tune but I could never figure out what the devil they were singing about. . .It still doesnt make sense to be but at least now I know what they're saying X-D

I wonder if Art Treacher ever performed this tune with Merv Griffin on the latter's tv talk/variety show?
