WRITING SONGS WITH THIS MUCH DIRE BEAUTY .......is only possible after surviving having your heart ripped out and sent through a chipper shredder. This is possibly one of the most potent pieces of music EVER written, and that is saying something. Thank you David for finding a way to translate what is virtually beyond words.......ABSOLUTELY BORDERS ON THE SACRED...........
As much as I love Adrian Belew I always wonder what Crimso would have been like if Sylvian had accepted the job. That being said, this song is absolutely, heartbreakingly gorgeous.
@PNFLDYS Wow. Adrian Belew - my thoughts exactly - but things turned out JUST the way they were meant to. We got both Belew AND Sylvian. Am I in Heaven? You must simply LOVE "Two Hands" and "Heartbeat" by Crimson... do you know the song: "I pitty inanimate objects" by Godley & Creme (of 10cc) - check that out - very cool "mood"... Enjoy.
@elliveproductions I am very familiar with Godley and Creme. I may only be 26 but I was blessed with a father with amazing musical taste and knowledge.
I am a big fan of Tony. Last time I listened him was in BCN (my town) He plays with Pat Mastelotto (Drums) and M. Bernier (stick/voice/ad. Drums) on his project:Stick Men. They played before "Porcupine Tree".
In fact there are many musical relations between Tony, Fripp, Belew (well, all KC)
and PT (St. Wilson, R. Barbieri, C.Edwin and G.Harrison) Now I listening "Upper Extremities", a great work by Bruford / Levin with Torn and Botti. I like too "Double espresso" (Live) and "Prime Cuts". Salud!
The most beautiful song I have ever heard. Incredibly romantic and sad...such a deep sense of loving in his lyrics. Thank you to the man that I will always deeply love for sending it to me.
Sorry to disagree partly: it was Pat Mastelotto on drums (and other stuff) during this tour - even if he does not appear on this particular track. Which is - I absolutely agree - wonderful!
This is one of the most majestic and melancholy songs I've ever heard. Damage...this is a song I'd have at my funeral. So beautiful...gorgeous...emotional.
I heard this song for the first time during a performance in Amsterdam, way back in the 90ties. Sylvian played it as an encore, and I was really swept of my feet (chair), for the simplicity and beauty of this song. Mind you, this song only gets its strength from Sylvian's voice. I don't think anyone else could achieve this impact...
Hey, nog een Nederlandse fan?? Know the feeling, hoorde dit ook voor het eerst in Eindhoven. Blijft zo ontzettend goed!
Possibly the best Sylvian ballad, and was astounding in the Albert Hall show. If only there was an official DVD compilation of live and studio solo work...
It's from the CD Damage by Sylvian/Fripp. Don't forget Robert Fripp's in there!
I saw the show in Manchester. A truly wonderful experience where we sat and listened and appreciated the music and applauded at the end. How I despair for my kids watching X Factor when everyone's screaming and clapping 10 seconds into the song ;o)
he could have easily done that in the studio in one take just like that. He is trully talented. It's funny, if he entered anything like the x factor or pop idol, I bet they wouldn't have put him through, even though he is one of the most wonderful singers. That's how stupid music has got these days.
Yes, you're right. My brother has most of the studio versions, and I got the boxed ltd. edition with the golden disc: not that I disbelieved you, it just gave me an excuse to call him. We live so far apart, and it was nice to speak w/ him!
What a great video. One of the most moving songs he ever made in my opinion. I was wondering if i could buy a copy somewhere? Unable to find it anywhere online
So many Sylvian songs are so beautiful....This is one of many that makes my tears appear. He's now, after all these years coming to Norway, and of course I have my ticket ready!!!
Hey moodyb, is it my imagination or did you have posted once the track 'Wave' taken fro this same concert? It's awesome, as is this. Thanks anyway, this is quite simply sublime.
Two of my favourite musicians together, it couldn't be better.

Oh lucky, lucky you Maxiclaudi. I've adored
DS for too many years. Such a pretty boy: now
a beautiful man. Sometimes I ache inside for
him. Pretty juvenile for a 49 year old woman.
But I can dream...
silmalila 4 years ago
Now a mature man and he just improves with age
Lord I'm happy he's married. Just wish it could have been me. I think I'm his most loyal
fan in the world. 33 years and still listen to
him every day. And this song is intensely per-
sonal as well. Know much about loss? I'm the
queen mother of loss. Death, abandonment.
No wonder I became a groupie: you know you're
getting exactly one night. And that's all I
ever wanted.
silmalila 4 years ago
I saw him live in the Royal Albert Hall then, just around the corner from where I lived in 1982-1983, and he and his other cronies from Japan then..

btw: the live version supercedea the studio version! I live in the US, and he is virtually unknown here...probably why he lives here now.
But even When he was a "prettyboy" he was very
deep.(Think about what his contemporaries at
the time were singing about.)
Still listening 33 yrs later, and he sounds
as fresh to me now as he ever did.
I hate to adnit it, but yanks are truly taste-
less and clueless where good music is concerned. But surely NOT ALL?
silmalila 4 years ago
There isn't actually a released studio version of this song...
