Looks like you had nice weather for the trip. I was backwoods camping in APP about 10 days prior and had mostly rain. I hope to do my first solo in 2011, however, my lady LOVES canoe tripping and doesn't want me to go without her. LOL I'll find a way to get out there solo. We just got a puppy Brittany Spaniel so I may have my own Maddy for MY solo trip. Cheers and keep up the super job of solo trekking!
way to go Trish! between you and the goose, you have inspired me to start sharing my solo's...if you ever want to come east i'll share some routes. :)
@ThatGuyPmk Congratulations on planning your first solo. My advice would include having all the right gear and knowing how to use it before you get out there. I didn't bring any music and I think that would have been a nice addition. Watch the Maddy the Goose videos. He is a guy who knows his stuff. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Also I do have a gear walkthrough if you think it might help. I'll send it if you ask. Good Luck and have a great time.
Way to go Trish.. Great clip, I'm very impressed.. I will admit I do not know of any female who would actually go solo in Algonquin's interior.. I know a few that would claim they would but when it really came down to it they wouldn't do it and for that my hat is off to you.. I go into the interior twice a year with a few guys from work and we fish, get drunk, laugh our asses off. I've always wanted to try a solo trip and now after seeing your video I want to try it even more.. thanks
@grizzlyrafting I hope you do try it. The interior is a beautiful place as is all of Northern Ontario. I did enjoy the solo experience and will be doing it again as soon as possible.
That's awesome Trish. Great job on the video. Nice to see another solo'er out there enjoying it and allowing me to see a familiar area through somebody else's eyes. Now you just need a dog :)
@MaddyTheGoose Thanks. That means a lot coming from you. It was your video tips that I used to learn my stove, my tarp (and knots), and my water filter. Your gear list on your website is detailed and complete, so I knew I wasn't forgetting something important. I can't thank you enough. Now about that dog...
No, we just drank it. Some of the lakes in Killarney are "Dead" as a result of years of smelting pollution and acid rain. You can tell because they are void of any vegetation or wild life. We just gambled (successfully) that it was safe and drank it. Of course we bring filters but it was kind of refreshing not to have to use them all the time.
Have you ever paddled Killarney? I took my kids on a trip out there in 2001. There was a fire ban on at the time so they were checking to make sure all people entering the park had stoves. At first we thought that a week long adventure without fire would suck. We were wrong. It was the best flat water trip we ever went on. and when we came home, we didn't smell like fire! The best part about that trip was we could drink the water right out of most of the lakes.
@michaeltcole This was my first canoe trip. I've been to Killarney and it is beautiful like most of Ontario, but I didn't paddle it. There are so many places I want to go now. I've camped all over, but adding the canoe will give me the freedom to go places that can't be reached by vehicle, foot or bicycle. I'll be sure to add Killarney to my list of future paddle trips. Was it posted somewhere that the water was safe to drink? I'd like that, but am happy to use my filter too. Cheers back at ya'.
Good on you nice video keep it up.
