@Bobaloobi You must be doing something wrong. Should be the other way around. Check your settings. Dxtory I have noticed NO noticeable frame loss. realistically its prob less then 5. Fraps cuts frames in half. And dont use ANY of the supplied codecs. Use Lagarith Lossless Codec.

I have a problem where it won't record my mic, I have the mic set correctly, I know this as the recording from mic works correctly when using Power Director and my mic works fine in voice chat. I am using my soundcard to output game sound (works perfectly) and the mic part of a microsoft lifechat headset (USB) for my commentary. Any thoughts appreciated.

I own latest Fraps and dxtory and tried both of them. Fraps just gives me much better performance plus smaller file size. I followed the tuto and when I record with dxtory, it's really smooth in game but when I look at video files, they are laggy as hell and double the size as fraps's video size.

Did you use a old version of fraps to compare or I just made something wrong?

Hey I recently bought dxtory however I just cannot get it to work, if have gone through multiple tutorial vids but none explain, my problem is that when i record a file no video player can play the video, however windows media player will play the first frame of the video but wont move on. Another weird thing is I can extract the sound from the file so it is defiently recording. When I try to open the file in windows movie maker it says that it is in a format it cannot use or it is corruputed.

When playing the video in VLC it says it doesn't support .xtor

If it wasn't for that I'd have no idea what was wrong

When watching my recorded videos, the audio comes in perfect but the video is blank (VLC WMP MPC)

What software do you use to play back the Dxtory file? When I try play it with Windows media player the playback is choppy or plays fast forward. When I play back FRAPS file I have no problems with playback.

@baggins1991 When I had dxtory working I made the audio from skype go through my headset while game audio through my speakers. This way it saves a split audio.

ie.

Audio 1 (speakers): game sound

Audio 2 (Headset): Skype/teamspeak

Audio 3 (Microphone): Your voice

Hi, thanks for this nice introduction to DXtory. It's clearly superior to fraps. There is yet another option how to demux the second audio track from the AVI, you can find it on forums adobe com/message/4014724 A guy there has written a batch file for ffmbc.exe which does exactly that.

Stick to fraps, this program sucks. You can't use any other program that has a screen overlay like rivatuner, afterburner etc if you do, then this rubbish program won't even record. Fraps will record no matter what.

Hey. Is there any other codec you've used that has smaller file sizes? Even at 720p, a game of League of Legends could be an hour long and takes up easily 100GB (200GB on RGB). Pretty unmanageable even with 2 1TB hard drives.

Hey TyeWebb, thx for nice video guide for DXTory. I like it a lot better than FRaps. The only that sucks is the RawCapConverter that I have to do at the end before I can edit the movie in Adobe Premiere. Is there anyways you could tell me how to mount those rawcap files so I don't have to do the converter at the end which takes almost twice as long as the original movie file. Please thank you.

I can't upload raw avi videos straight from dxtory, avi fix still doesn't make it uploadable, avimux allows me to encode it to a crappier, more retro-ish quality.

Any advice to make videos uploadable and still have the quality it should have?

i have a weird problem with my dxtory tried v 2.110 and 2.109 sing the trial version, so the problem is when i start the recording the fps change colour to orange that means that it is recording but for a strange reason it wont save in the file that i choosen.

It works fine for me with recording and all but the problem is after when im trying to play up my clip i just recorded, i tried AVI format and tried to play it up in VLC, and just got a message like :VLC doesnt support sound or videoformatet "xtor". There is no way to fix this. Also tried raw format and when im bulding the file, and after when i watch it, it works but its all black, the video is going but doesnt show anything but a black screen, plz help me.

you need alot better hardrive for this than for fraps cause on fraps i can record just fin 720 30fps whitout annd lagg in the finished files but whit this it gets like 10-15 fps instead and is all laggy and stuff allthou game fps don´t frop at all whit this so if you got a good hardrive this is probly better

@TyeWebb I try to compress my files with Dxtory (by checking compress), and the videos are unable to be run by Windows Media Player, saying the Dxtory codec is not supported. I unchecked the compress box and recorded a 10 minute video on medium quality, 75% scale, and the file was 12gb. I haven't tried again at 50% scale, but I would like to know if anyone had any idea why WMP won't play dxtory codec for me.

I have a question: You said on the beginning of the video, that it's a better idea to have 2 HDDs and to save the videos on the HDD where your OS isn't installed at (I've heard that in many videos, so I assume it's true). I don't have 2 physical HDDs so my question is: Will it make a difference if I create 2 partitions on my HDD and save my videos to the partition where the OS isn't installed at? - HM7

@sebbomm you probably could but you should look into/google SSD limited write cycles before using an SSD to record to, so you understand the potential consequences of using an SSD for something like this.

@TyeWebb that write cycle limit is for each cell/bit, but all SSD's have what is known as 'wear leveling' as long as they have some free space on them they will never write to the same bit twice... so they end up lasting a really long time...

so if possible, try to keep like 50% free... and assuming you are not reinstalling the OS on a daily bases, that 10K number will be more like 10 billion (or more) writes... far more than your average HDD...
