Nothing like Monday morning quarterbacking about a fire that was on video tape for a little over 7 minutes. Some people are such experts and comment, except for the experts. Lol
@93CFD..There's always several ways to attack a fire. The best one is the one that results in an effective stop with minimal danger to firefighters and the protection of exposures. I only know what I can see here. With an imminent flashover at the rear door and the rest as I previously stated, this is the only way I would have attacked it. I can't comment on your way because I don't know what it is.
@jchambers2586 1---to ventilate the smoke and hot gasses 2---we like destroying shit......Just kidding, we tear open walls etc....to check for fire extension. Nothing suck more than having to come back on a rekindle when proper overhauling will ensure the fire is completely out.Trust me, If we need to tear open a wall to check for fire, that wall is the least of your problems. Hope I helped.
Initial sizeup..3 story wood frame,,,1st floor fully involved...partial involvement 2nd floor....front porch involved and roof of porch compromised....strategy..deck gun (if available) directed on front porch......No initial interior attack....at least 2 lines directed through first floor windows......after knockdown assess interior and move in. High pressure hose? No such thing. The nozzle creates the high pressure. The other critics are inexperienced at best. NICE JOB!
Its a good movie and those firefighter are doing a great job, but why don't they get high pressure line on those engines i think it would save a lot of hose wresling those hoses used in the movie seem to be very heavy and thick hard to handle
@29bradh, On a fire of this size, exactly how big of an extinguisher would this person be carrying to put out the "burning debry thrown from the house???" That's gonna be a lot of empty cans creating a hazard for your fellow firefighters.
I enjoy these vids. As a volunteer firefighter in Australia, we attack house fires a bit differently here, so it's nice to see how other countries do the job. As has been said already, as long as everyone gets to go home to their loved ones and the overall task was accomplished, it's a job well done. As for the nay-sayers: you weren't there, so pipe down. If we saw a video of half these slackasses, we'd have criticisms about them too. Just look on it as always room for improvement.
@AussiePegasus You said your deptartment attacks house fires a bit different.....curious what you mean? What do you observe in our videos here in the USA that differs from your methods?
@bapabob in Australia, we typically attack the fire a lot more aggressively. Depending on fire activity and the structural integrity, we'll usually make an internal search/attack with 2 FFs in BA, hauling a 38mm (1 1/2") line. As much as possible, ventilation doesn't happen until the main knockdown is done, to minimize fire spread. We try to be showing water onto the fire within 90 seconds of pulling up at the job. There's usually a lot less ventilation done, just opening doors & windows, etc.
Very nice video.I am going to be a Cadet firefighter within 2 weeks and we get to go to fires but we can't attack them until after fire school and we get to do hose training and from the looks of the video the Hose looks pretty heavy,.!Good Job Guys!
There are many things, I could call out about this incident, but If those are all accountability tags hanging from most of the guys helmets, they aren't doing a damn bit of good there. Was an accountability check point even set up? Guys are inside and no one would know if a man went missing. Bad enough, you guys lost the house, don't try to lose a man. And come on WTF is up with the fire extinguisher? You have to be kidding me. Remember guys, safety first.
@1LSUredneck idk if its wat these guys were doing but wen we hav structure fires we hav someone occasionally walk the exterior of the house with an extinguisher knocking down burning debry thrown from the house
when i think of a house fire i think of the house having a smoke or becoming a fire breathing dragon when the fire comes out of the windows its kinda cool for how i see it as a fire breathing dragon
I can't believe that the crew at the back of the house let that fire start again. Very dangerous. Some of them seemded nervous. Train...train....train...be smart but be agressive.
@tennis1984 It didn't start again in the back. They pushed the fire all way through the house. The attack should have been made from the back. That family lost everything because the fire was not handled right.
good job overall, but one question why is the white hat towards the end of the vidoe using a water canister to fight fire with?? shouldnt that be used for overhaul??? just curious!
I run with a neighboring company to Catty. As far as the criticism goes, its a volunteer company. I'm pretty sure that means they don't have to respond in split second time. They still got there and did what they could. The house was extremely involved anyhow that there was no way to save the entire house.
That was a damn good knock-down considering the amount of fire they had to contend with. As long as everyone goes home in the morning....it's all good.
I agree, first line should have been through the back to protect the back side of the house. Ventilation should have been started been started immediatley to help the guys inside. Did I see a 2 1/2 on fire attack? Overall, we all make comments but as long as a brother did not get hurt and the fire was put out then consider it a job well done!
couple things .....first not a complete cluster pretty quick knock on a fast moving fire,,,,didnt see any ladders to div 2 even as FF were up there working if someone had to bail out could of been bad....drives me nuts when i see FF hitting a fire from the outside while there r crews workin inside....stay safe guys
Last time I knew you wasnt suppose to push the fire throught the house. Whitch is what they did. Could have saved more if they went in the back and stoped the fire in the middle.
man what took so long....man i wish my fire department stands around looking at the fire. oh wait we dont we go inside and save as much as we can. no reason to be standing around watching the fire.

2 questions.
1. Why do they cut a hold in the roof?
2. take the walls down to the studs ex removing sheet rock
I have a friend who I have helped rebuild houses that caught fire all the sheet rock was on the floor.
