  • sO COOL of HIM to show us these things! Thank's man!

  • Way before Stevier Ray, there was Robin Trower.

  • RT has his own style. The middle section of Hannah may be hung on a vamp similar to Hendrix' Third Stone (Frank Marino cops the same vamp on Mahogany Rush Live) and some of his R+B fragments and extended chords cross paths with JH. But overall, RT is more atmospheric, less experimental. What I respect about RT is that, except for In City Dreams and Caravan, he's had a remarkably consistent signature sound and approach, going on 40 years. Great in his own right, and a well-earned hats off...

  • Also everyone please listen to the song "Song for a dreamer" it is RT tribute to JH it is a chilling song I think both sides will like it

  • Jimi Hendrix had a sound that is his own! True some of RT stuff had the same sound but I think RT took it to the next step. Hendrix had 3 LP out when he died now he has over 30 what the hell is that about. As a blues played RT is one of the best as a rock artist I have kept RT and JH in the top 10. I don't think anyone can say who is better some of it is what sound you like. Just don't tell me any of the anyone in todays bands are better than either. Everyone have a great NEW YEAR

  • I saw him live (Liverpoll stadium early seventies) HE was trying to sound like Hendrix, listen to Day of the eagle, sounded like Hendrix most of the gig, not talking about now, he is a good blues player now with his own style, Fool!

  • @itchyundies Oh, how ignorance abounds on this site. FYI, Robin was probably dropping acid about the same time Jimi was.

"In 1962, Trower formed a group that became The Paramounts, later including Gary Brooker. The Paramounts disbanded in 1966. During this time, Trower created a local 3-piece band called The Jam. Trower then joined Brooker's new band Procol Harum following the success of their debut single "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967, remaining with them until 1971."

  • People who say Robin is a "Hendrix clone" are fools. When MOST people hear Robin Trower play, they hear ROBIN--not JIMI.

  • Love this guy.. I use the vibe a lot w/ my sound. You can hear it all thru our "live sessions"

  • Besides all the great music, lyrics, guitars, guitar pics, pedals, wah-wahs, amps, studios, interviews, tours, autographs, pictures, etc.....he is such a nice man. He really is. Every time he comes to St. Pete or Tampa, Florida I make sure to go and see him.

  • RTformed a band in 1962 that disbanded in 1966.he went on to join Procol Harum as lead guitarist. Procol Harum's first hit was the biggest selling single in 1967 at the height of "flower power" also it was apparently John Lennon's favourite song of the time, RTwas with Procol Harum untill 1971, RT was a product of the 1960's .nothing about being disrepectful, just the truth, nuff said!!!

  • Robin Trower Interview - 22 April 1998, Murf: Have you ever resented the comparisons of your playing to Jimi Hendrix? Trower: No..not at all, I've always been the first to admit that he was a very big influence...especially on my early stuff....you know. When I was just starting out as a solo artist I drew on him quite a lot.....especially my first album...and I think "Bridge of Sighs", my second album, I started to develop my own thing.

  • Oh come on Robin has always had the Hendrix vibe thats why i like him, i agree with what most of what Realitytourist says, but to say he dosen't sound like Jimi especialy in the 70s ,is simply not true, Robin would be the first to admit Hendrix was is idol.

  • @MrMymanalishi said: "but to say he dosen't sound like Jimi especialy in the 70s ,is simply not true"

You have ears but they do not (correctly) hear. Robin his signature sound; when I hear him play, I hear ROBIN TROWER playing--not Robin Trower trying to be (play) like Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix vibes, yes, but different, unique, another flavor. I can't believe people are that dense! It can probably best summed up like this: Jimi and Robin are two branches that sprouted from the same (blues) tree.

  • Robin was inspired by Jimi and, like Jimi, he took the guitar to places no one else had then or has since. He doesn't sound like Jimi or play like him. Robin's sound is "classier" than Jimi's; and why shouldn't it be? Jimi learned his stuff on the chitlin' circuit in the USA while Robin was playing British rock! Jimi's tone is often raw and on the edge of destruction (and sometimes over that edge), while Robin is smooth like fine Scotch. So glad we still have Robin with us!

  • There was only 1 Jimi and he forever changed how the electric guitar would sound. There is only 1 Robin and he was certainly inspired by Jimi so was SRV, so what, who wasn't,. It was Robin who got me to pick up the guitar and taught me what effects could do and how they become a part of the sound, techniques he picked up from Jimi on how to apply tones. But Jimi never had what Robin and if you give an honest listen to Bridge of Signs and others Robin is far more than a clone. He is peerless.

  • I love RT's dry modesty off stage, and the way he puts all his heart and soul into his playing. This guy is right on top of his game.

  • THAT TONE IS SO COOL ITS LIKE A PHASER AND A B3 HAD A KID.

  • This guy is too frickin cool!

  • The man is a guitar legend - albeit one who doesn't get nearly the recognition he deserves. Love that he just lays out his rig for all to see too.

  • Trower is 1 of a kind, he imitates no one..he has his own style and sound and he is in my top 5 guitar players..page...hendrix...gilmour..trower..peter green

  • dude!!! you are a true "guitar hero"....we love you Robin!!!

  • What a master at his craft! Love hearing him tell how he produces some of his tone. What he doesn't say is that the majority of his tone lies in his fingers and brain. Bravo! - Mike

  • YT vids start and stop..takes forever to view them. WTF ? Anyone experience this..seems like a throughput issue.

  • @guitarthroat Robin will tell you that his early albums, especially the first three, were heavily inspired and influenced by Jimi. It's not a bad thing at all. Being able to even come close to what I like to call "Jimiland" is pretty damn cool, if ask me. They have been inspired by Jimi's stuff, but there's also a ton of originality in those albums and just about everything he's done since.

  • @guitarthroat Yeah I hate when people call him a Hendrix clone...just becuase he uses a univibe a wah and a strat doesnt mean anything...they playing is very different and they dont really sound alike

  • @guitarthroat totally agree, his tones may have been similar but his soul and playing is very different from Hendrix's. To me RT is not to be beaten re soulfull playing.

  • @Danthehorse I guess people are just hypercritical and silly with him. Just because he uses a uni-vibe (or more accurately a deja-vibe) and plays with a str@t doesn't mean he's ripping off Hendrix. I personally think Robin is more associated with the 70's era than the 60's like Hendrix was. I was born a year after "Bridge of Sighs" was released. So I remember my Pop playing it on his 8 track in his Dodge Challenger when I was 4 or 5. Spectacular artist, PEOPLE....SHOW SOME RESPECT!!!

  • A living legend..

  • This is probably the best piece I have seen by a Real Live Rock Guitar Pioneer and world recognised guitar influence talking about equipment.

I have a Cornell Plexi 7 and a Cornell Romany Plus these amps really make you want to play the tone is so proper.

  • Awsome !! Amazing player!!!! Incredible tone .I`ve seen him live several times always the best.I met him after a show at Chicago house of blues.A true living legend.

  • Fantastic! First I've seen these new videos!
